@WeAllJuggleKnives I just got one these things. I really got to stop watching your videos. You are going to make me broke. I already have 5 folders one 14 inch tanto fixed blade and then this little guy
@WeAllJuggleKnives I will need to get help for this addiction which you are clearly are enabler of lol.I love your collection man I hope to get my first chinese straight sword
@WeAllJuggleKnives For twenty bucks plus tax at wal mart this thing is hard to beat. Its cheap rivals cant hold a match to it. Of course it is small and users a low grade stainless steel but it is cost efficent and works.. But yeah my favorite line fron avp the first movie. Is the spot where the blonde dyke looking female explains to the black female lead why she has a gun. * I rather have one and not need it then need one and not have it "
Was just about to post about the $20 find but I see that people have beat me to it. Any reports on longterm durability? It seems solid, I've done a little chopping with it but nothing major.Great review by the way
@LeftyGuitarist1233 - I haven't put this 'hawk to the test, but in general a camp hatchet will be a better chopper and have more durability. A 'hawk is more a multi-purpose compromise, it is lighter to carry and used to be used for fighting too, so it's jack of all trades but not best at one, especially chopping, a camp hatchet is way heavier and chops more powerfully.
Cool video, Found it at Chinamart for $20. I know they make deals with manufactures and may not be the same quality as the "Real SOG", LOL, who knows. I am not out there saving my life with it but just thought it was cool to have and the price was good. Take care my friend and have a great day, I come back to you because you do some great reviews.
Hey i have the sog fusion hawk, ive had it for 2 weeks and the blade is chipped and dull from chpoing/throwing. Any tips on sharpening or fixing blade?
Hey, sorry to hear that. I'd heard conflicting reports on that hawk. Some said it was not good for hard camp work, others said the exact opposite. I would recommend checking out some of the hardcore bushcrafting channels, they use their hawks the hardest and should be able to tell you how to repair the head.
I have another question. The SOG Tomahawk I ordered from Amazon looks exactly like the SOG Fusion, but I looked closer...the SOG tomahawk I have doesn't have the "Fusion" markings on it. In the place where the "Fusion" letters are suppose to be, (on the handle) the one I have just has "SOG" lettered on it. Is it possible that I have a knock-off?
@firestream93 - Hey, I am not sure. It could be that SOG just changed it slightly? If you e-mail SOG I'm sure they can tell you if they produced any without lettering.
@firestream93 the SOG tomahawk has a longer handle then the fusion fasthawk, that's the only difference i know to. mine also just says SOG nd i got it straight from SOG so i wouldn't worry about it.
I have a question. I have an SOG Fusion Tomahawk, and the cutting blade is nowhere near as sharp as it was when I got it, because of general uses. Would it be better to file the blade, or sharpen it with a sharpening stone? What kind of file and/or sharpening stone do I need?
@firestream93 I have heard some people say that about the SOG Fusion, I'm not an expert on the sharpening of a hawk though, I would try doing a search for bushcrafting type channels, those guys beat the hell out of their 'hawks so I am sure they have some vids on fixing that edge up. (But offhand I would say the stone would be better than using a file).
Appreciate the quick reply. I think this adds another level of interest for me to tinker and try. thanks i may have to snag those two when i can to play and use. Take care keep up the great work and insight!
That smaller one could easily lash to the side of my more compact survival kit. It's always there on the bag, so there is nothing really to think about. Combined with the small fixed blade survival knife, and the sabersaw, I would have most common tasks covered -- though probably not easily performed with smaller tools.
Good review as usual.. Is it possible to let me know if the fastening on the two SOG hawks are the same ? say if a head swap of the 2 is possible? Stay safe
@VisualArticulation Hey, I just checked on that for you. I think that could actually work, the large torx bolts seem like the same size and the tangs and the metal bands appear the same length. I don't want to say for sure, because I'm not a machinist, but it seems like you could switch the heads from looking at it.
Good review Sensei. I have this, but I wish the sheath was more like the CS Trench Hawk. The latter is quicker to remove and I like how the pieces rotate around. Also, the point on the Fasthawk could be more acute. It's all fine though: no point nitpicking budget tools.
@wealljuggleknives ok and would you do me a favor and tell me the name/type of the knife that you reccomend for using with the "pioneer/native american" combo? i understand the philosophy of the combo now, thanks for the education on that and for your time :)
@wealljuggleknives what are your thoughts on dual weilding tomohawks? i own a CS trench hawk and was thinking of buying another for this porpose. I tried holding the tomohawk in my good hand and a large knife in the other, it felt very akward to me with the lack of symmetry. what are your thoughts on the combat effectiveness of dual weilding 2 trench hawks vs a trench hawk paired with a large double-edged spearpoint knife? any tips on how to cope with the akwrdness in lack of symmetry? plz reply
@anticannoneer Double Hawks can be done, it is just a matter of practice. The idea of a hawk and a large knife is that you take power swings with the hawk, but if the enemy tries to rush you before or after the swing, he runs into a quick thrust from the knife.
i was actually concidering buying the fast hawk. but the short length of the handle was what made me say "no" in the end. i then decided to get the cold steel trail hawk and I love that thing. but maybe i'll give SOG a chance one day
@spongyjakester They are a budget choice but the skills of the user matter way more than price, unless a weapon actually breaks (not likely against a soft target).
so just to confirm this would be a decent low cost option for a camp ax????

i threw the hawk many times, and the handle broke, even though the blade hit the wood.
nevertheless, i shall buy a new one and use my broken hawk’s blade on a wooden handle.
