The declaration of independence was written by a Virginian. The Confederacy was a poorly governed and inefficient establishment. England provided almost no support, and their printed money caused mass inflation. Their desire for state's rights meant almost no unity and Gerorgia almost SECEDED FROM THE CONFEDERACY. Lincoln did not ask permission to go to fight because he said this was civil insurrection. Explains most of what I have said. I would never say Lincoln was a bad person or bad president. His goal was to reunite the union not to free slaves He even stated so in his letter I quoted earlier. Freeing the slaves gave the north more soldiers, in fact they would often only free slaves that would enlist in the union army. Basically he freed the ones that would do his bidding. Honestly the man was brilliant and it worked.

The Civil war, or if you're from the South, the War of Northern Aggression, was not fought over slavery. It was fought over states' rights. The south did not want war, it was Lincoln who strove for it. Please don't believe everything you read in American history books. Lincoln was a warmonger and a liar and he forced the South into war.
This war was also unconstitutional. The Southern states had the right to leave the union as long as they did so as a majority.

You know whats also interesting is that during the election of 1860 Lincoln never showed up on the ballot for the southern states because he was a northern republican. None of the southern states could win in northern states due to pro-slavery issues and the north couldn't win in the south because of the same thing. I was reading that Robert E Lee favoured abolishing slavery and that Ulysses S Grant did in fact own slaves at one time. Also it's my understanding that on both sides of the Mason Dixon line that black Americans were discriminated against by both north and south.
@apa1967 Lee did not favor abolishing slavery unless and until God Himself personally commanded it. Grant only ever owned one slave, for one year, who he voluntarily freed years before the war though he badly needed money that would have come from a sale.

This son strikes me as a bit odd. I mean "I hates the declaration of independence, too". I "Hates the striped banner". Those were proud symbols of the people who would become the Confederacy. The declaration of independence was written by a Virginian. Now the rebels had a cause and were willing to die for it, but theres no reason to hate the good old USA before Lincoln, which was as much southern as it was northern.

Jesus christ... Lincoln wanted a united country. While Lincoln did apply pressure, it was the South that fired the first shots at Fort Sumter. The Confederacy was a poorly governed and inefficient establishment. England provided almost no support, and their printed money caused mass inflation. Their desire for state's rights meant almost no unity and Gerorgia almost SECEDED FROM THE CONFEDERACY. Lincoln did not ask permission to go to fight because he said this was civil insurrection. Not a war.

The Civil war, or if you're from the South, the War of Northern Aggression, was not fought over slavery. It was fought over states' rights. The south did not want war, it was Lincoln who strove for it. Please don't believe everything you read in American history books. Lincoln was a warmonger and a liar and he forced the South into war.
This war was also unconstitutional. The Southern states had the right to leave the union as long as they did so as a majority.

None of the southern states could win in northern states due to pro-slavery issues and the north couldn't win in the south because of the same thing. Wow, we listened to this in AP U.S. History class, and I first thought it was a joke, because it's so absurd. First off, the flag with the red background and blue x wasn't the flag of the Confederacy, it was a Lee's battle flag. Second, in the song, the man sings that he "hates the Declaration of Independence, too." That makes no sense given that the Southern rebels often compared themselves to the patriots of the Revolutionary War.

I am a Greek but i admire the Confederate States of America and its soldiers that died for their right to be free. I was reading that Robert E Lee favoured abolishing slavery and that Ulysses S Grant did in fact own slaves at one time. Also it's my understanding that on both sides of the Mason Dixon line that black Americans were discriminated against by both north and south.

@apa1967 Lee did not favor abolishing slavery unless and until God Himself personally commanded it. Grant only ever owned one slave, for one year, who he voluntarily freed years before the war though he badly needed money that would have come from a sale.
