  • Hey I've always wondered this, but what does the tape around the top of the strings on the strat do?

  • WTF the strat sound awesome.

  • The strat has better Djent. The alder body gives it a brighter and clearer tone than the Mahogany body of the RGA8, not to mention pickup difference. RGA8 might sound better with a pickup swap tho. Still, a 7 or 8 string with a Basswood body is prolly the best guitar for DJent IMO. RG2228 for example. Still, your choice of guitars still depends on what sound your aiming for.

  • Pod farm eats shit, the response time is good with the line 6 gear, but for recording you can use any line 6 interface with guitar rig, it's got a lot more options, an actual decent interface and takes midi input, make the switch bro

  • @liberatethegrave Currently I prefer Lepou's amp VSTs coupled with ReCabinet 2 for a good rhythm tone but then again my preferences change time to time. That said, I agree with you about POD Farm not being very good by itself. At least for metal rhythm tones.

  • sHIT! i prefered the stratocaster djent tone, jaja

  • dude change the pick ups of your rga8 because they are ass

and I know what I'm talking about because I have a rga7 and the pick ups in it were also ass so I changed them for seymour duncan blackouts

  • the strat sounds badass!!!

  • Personally, I felt the strat was a little too tinny for me. Either way, you'd have to do some post work with them both anyway. Kudos on modding your strat to sound that baddass, though!

  • the strat actually sounds a lot better to my ears..

    intriguing...

  • 7 string Strat.... Fender get on it!

  • @CleverNameHere81 'Maestro' Alex Gregory

  • @JahcobusZ Good god.

  • I think you made a few good points here. The first being that Ibanez sucks and their pickups are awful. The second being that you shouldn't let yourself be fooled into thinking that just cause you bought a brand new Ibanez 8 string that it automatically means you will have that cutting edge Djent tone. I've been playing metal on strats for 10 years and never felt like I was held back by my equipment when searching for my ideal tone. Awesome video, Dude. Very informative!

  • I'm not a huge fan of Strats, but yours is just straight up beautiful.

  • of couese the stratocaster has better tone compared to the stock pickups in the ibanez. switch to cold sweat bareknuckles or lundgren M8 in the ibanez and you will get a lot more djentier tone :)

  • How did you get Metal Shop for 25$? Says 50$ for me...

  • @buttholesurfer101 Seems like the price depends on the hardware you want to buy it for. For my pod studio gx it was $24.95 but for ux2 (for example) its $49.99. Weird.

  • The Stratocaster sounds more agressive, and ´punchy´

  • Dude, that strat fuckin' rocks!

  • i think the start has more djent :L

  • toi englanti on vähä korvaan pistävä ni piti vähä tutkia ni perhana suomestahan sä olet! :D

  • Get those shitty EMGs out of the 8, slap some Bareknuckles in there, and you will see it's got WAY more Djent than a Strat.

  • @zedchuva ibanez pickups, no shitty emgs. i think the ibanez buckers are even shittier...

  • @zedchuva that guitar doesn't have EMGs in it. it has those shitty ibanez stock pickups. with emg would sound great because of the scoop of those pickups. or with blackouts or bareknuckles or lungreen pickups. M8 to be more precise. any way rock on dude\m/

  • this vid is really awesome to compare the sounds!

I think stratocaster has more MID sound and suit to djent.

  • new groove!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey dude

Can you tell me the eq you used for all 4 points?

    hz - gain - q?

    awesome video btw!

  • that fast track 2 is a beast, i used to have one in an old ibanez roadstar II and it sounded gnarly

  • since you're working with actives in the 8 string best to get blackouts for a more agressive tone as the EMGs are cancelling a lot of the hum you probably want. They dont require any wire soldering either. But that and maybe another string brand GHS , Dunlop , D'Addario maybe.A lighter string gauge will add more hum as well, but dont go too light.

  • lordabrxias i agree with u a 100% on what u said and if he put money in to the RGA8 hes lil 6 string would be shit to the RGA8 SO TO COME PAIR it to that lil shit guitar u got going the one u worked on man

  • What helps the strat, other than the superior electronics, is the smaller magnetic field of the pickup. The smaller field lends itself to the 'tighter' feel.

  • My butthole sounds better...

  • My uncle has a Squier strat (by Fender) Affinity series, when you tune that guitar down to drop-C you can hear a nice and powerful djent, despite is has the cheap stock pickups.

  • Did you buy the Metal Shop add-on for POD Farm 2?

    Is it worth it?

  • @FokasSk8er Yes, I did. And the amp models are more suitable for metal compared to the stock ones so IMO good for 25 US dollars.

  • @FokasSk8er best to get everything to save some money , the effects all sound the same but i found metal shop had a few amp simulations on it that where good, for example the Angel one also known as the ENGL powerball and it was a very aggressive amp.

  • @JYZProductions Thanks,Im probably gonna get it!

  • RGA8 for sure just change the pickups man,,,,,,,,,u did a lot of things for stratocaster to get the sound u want,,,,cmon RGA8 change pickups that's it DONE.............

  • The stocks on my guitar which is a fucking strat remake still make good djent, you only need the right amp settings.

  • what gauge strings did you use man?

  • my money was on the strat at first because i use a p90 in the bridge with a humbucker in the neck for my setup. i love the extra harmonics you get with the single coil, and the middle position sounds incredible for cleans. especially when i add the ehx knockout pedal.

  • Will it djent? That is the question.

  • A real Djentleman... :)

  • I really need that line 6 setting please.. :-)

  • My Gibson SG can dish out some good djent tones on it. But any guitar really can do it. People mostly dismiss a lot of other guitars based other there looks. The Strat to seem to have the more djent sound to it, but the RGA8 came close.

  • The stock pick ups in the RGA8 stink. If you want some djent worthy pickups, get some Bare Knuckles :)

  • How about if you want Djent, don't use some fucking computer program but a real amp with real speakers.

  • @brando18guitarplyr tell that to every djent player

  • @xlambxofxruinx They use Axe FX, that is one hell of an pre-amp, and they do use a real amp with real speakers (: Not some lame-ass pc software.

  • @brando18guitarplyr yes well i'm sure when axe fx was first becoming popular people like you were complaining about the tone not being real and that they should use real tube amps. point is you'll never except someone else's work just because you think you know what good tone is. use what you got and don't knock this guy just because his computer program might be only thing he has available. i saw your pic w/ gilbert. congrats! but that doesn't mean you know everything about guitar. peace bro

  • @xlambxofxruinx You are absolutely right, Tone is all a matter of taste, but I really dislike digital sounds because you always lose signal, that´s the truth. You can hear it when he plays the RGA 8 @1:44 When he hits the string all of the signal just goes dead, and that means he is losing signal, just like people who use a noise gate, that fucks up the sound, I am not saying I know about what good tone is, but I do know that real amps will always sound better than a pc program.

  • @brando18guitarplyr true. very true.

  • generally you get better djent out of a single coil/single humbucker... you played the RGA8 with both humbuckers enabled instead of split... :(

  • Comment removed

  • mga boang baliw kayong lahat

  • it's the pickups in that RGA8, they are horrible. You got Dimarzios in the strat obviously it's going to sound better than LO-Z's or w\e the fuck they call them. You're also comparing 2 different tone woods, Mahogany Vs. Alder...Put a Lundgren M8 set on that Ibanez and it will destroy the strat.

  • @metallica5252 no need to be a dick about it dude

  • @metallica5252 I think what he was trying to go for was that they ARE different guitars. He doesn't seem to be implying in any way that they should be perceived as the same guitar with some mystical difference that provides a more 'djent' sound.

  • @LordAbrxias if the strat had stock pickups then I wouldn't of cared so much, but he put money into that strat for that sound, why not do the same for the RGA8?

  • @metallica5252 Either that or some Bareknuckles, or even some EMGs.

  • Poor poor strat.

  • That strat is the best sound I've ever heard.

  • Yea but you also gotta think. the 8 string has way thicker strings.

  • Buy real amps not good from plastic speakers computer

  • Did you really tune that strat to Drop G#??

  • @FokasSk8er yes, with some thick strings

  • @kodoku42 Doesnt it go out of tune all the time or its ok?Because I have a 6 string too and I wanna get it tuned to G#.

  • @FokasSk8er I think it stays in tune as well in drop G# as it would in drop D. Depends how Good hardware you've got on a guitar.

  • @kodoku42 Thanks dude.

  • @FokasSk8er you should block your trem if you have one on your 6string and want to drop it to G#

  • @FokasSk8er

I have my Telecaster in Drop G# right now with .14-68 and the strings are too thight. :D

  • @FokasSk8er Sounds like Drop A to me.

  • @MegaRedman09 No,its Drop G#.

  • @FokasSk8er drop a actually

  • @LazyAlex1983 He plays New Groove by Bulb,so he is tuned to Drop G#.

  • @FokasSk8er no dude, he was in dropped A tuning with the strat, listen again.

  • @metallica5252

Go ahead, ask the guy who played it.

  • @FokasSk8er no need to ask, I am able to distinguish pitch, unlike you.

  • @metallica5252 @FokasSk8er It was drop A - regardless of the fact that I played New Groove. And I mentioned drop G# in an older comment because FokasSk8er asked me about drop G#. End of discussion.

  • oot sä suomalainen :DD

  • @lordijokke Mikä paljasti? :D

  • @kodoku42 aksentti :DDD

  • @kodoku42 SUOMEN LEIJONAAAAA ja aksentti :D

  • @kodoku42 busted :D

  • @kodoku42 Veikkaan kaulassa killuvaa Suomen leijonaa.

  • ressonância do tremolo da stratocaster que deixa o som ruim

  • i actually like the strat sound better.

  • video title is a little misleading.... given that the stock pickups in the RGA8's are known to be muddier then Mickey Thompson 'mudders'. Would like to see another vs video between these two once you upgrade the stock crap LZ8 pups though ;)

  • @R1ronin There's a lot of controversy over this video and yes, the comparison was unfair.

    I don't have that 8-string anymore though.

  • What a joke!

  • is this a joke?

  • still dont understand how u get that tone with Pod farm. I cant get anything close to that

  • periphery new groove !!!

  • thumbs up for the matrix in the background

  • Why aren't playing drums for muse?

    :T

  • @tweekin001 i did man! it hurts man!

  • Comment removed

  • no need to watch the ibanez kicked its ass by a landslide!

  • @noobtube3000

    You'd actually be suprised...

  • were you mad when you died at the end of diehard?

  • i can do that with the pod x3 or xt?

  • @AlvaroSilvaSP I think so yes

  • @kodoku42 Thanks man, i really want to learn to do my own songs like you do it.. sorry for my bad english, i have some quesions to ask you. the first one: where can i get the EQ and the compressors that you use in your mixing?. the second one: where can i download the impulses that you use. and the final: what pc do you have (specifications). sorry if my question is a little bit annoying. I just want to learn to make good mixes and be a good producer as you are. ty again

  • @AlvaroSilvaSP For eq, compressors and other fx, google 'Stillwell Audio' and 'Variety Of Sound'. Those have some good stuff. For impulses I use ReCabinet 2.0 library (which to my knowledge is discounted) but you could start off with something called "Guitarhack's Impulses". There are many free impulse packs out there if you do little searching. And my PC is nothing special really, just a dual-core cpu, 4 gigs of ram (for 64-bit windows 7) and a Line6 GX as the recording interface.

  • @AlvaroSilvaSP this song isn't by him :) its new groove from periphery

  • what is djent

  • @fizzlefresh14 Djent is... well.... Djent has infinitely many definitions and can be used as any part of speech.

  • @AkatsukiPR0 gee thanks...

  • the rga8 is the dino cazares series????

  • strat. brighter pickups, brighter body wood. the RGA8 was built for 8 string DEATH METAL. thats why it has a mahogany body

  • The Strat definitly djents more!!

  • Tuning for the Strat? Drop G? or what?

  • @xxSPiKeZxx326 drop A

  • Weeellllll, The strat has more djent tone, but the rga8 has 8 strings... hmmm thats a tough one lol

  • i like vibrations going through my nutz...

  • What audio interface did you record this through?

  • @skalla1000 Line6 POD Studio GX

  • @tweekin001 LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • just get a freakin ENGL amp damn

  • @surfluvr666 Just pull a few grand out of your ass.

  • *add more treble and hi mids when using crappy 8 string* -problem solved or do a pick up swap.

  • @kodoku42 yeh that is true but even for the build quality it is overpriced(as beast as it is) i meam.droppin 2300$ on a guitar is a hefty choice and a really expensive one so id rather.go with the rga8 and put emg 808s in it bit in the end its all about preference(and if yr rich or not) hah

  • @musicguitarlessons I agree about the price, it has gone way up from what it was originally. RGA8 is good for it's price though. I've just had some bad luck with my guitar. Anyway if you're getting the RGA8 the 2011 model has improvements over the original.

  • Ok the rga8 is better than the rg2228. how? Well if u buy an ibanez rga8 u will get the ibanez lz pups and a mid scoop switch.when u buy the emg 808s it will come with the tone and volume pots so thats like 250$ and that basically the only.difference between the rga8 and the rg2228 just the pickups and the mid scoop so just buy the rga8and put emgs in it and yr good to go

  • @musicguitarlessons IMO RG2228 is obviously better than RGA8, not just for the pickups but the materials and premium build quality (if you prefer mahogany over basswood the latter might be your choice though). RGA8 is a little rough around the edges so to speak... at least with my guitar.

  • the fender strat always had the twangy sound, funny i come across this because i thought about testing this and the sound from the strat was amazing it literally hit the jackpot

  • vildhjarta! :D

  • @smaturock

    NO IT'S A TECHNIQUE!!!!!!

    lol

  • song at 1:19

  • @DrumBum561 Just some of my old riffages mixed together

  • um my question.. what pickups are you running in the fender i know stock fender piccups suck for djent..

  • @MrRxkp I think I mentioned it in the video... but they're DiMarzio Fast Track 2 and Pro Track

  • i can't get a good metal tone in Pod farm can anyone help pleasE?

  • I have a Squier Hello Kitty in Drop G#, needless to say I have tons of djent

  • @GuitarnScythes LOL!!!!

  • @GuitarnScythes Very mean guitar that is :D

  • @GuitarnScythes haha, definitely want to see you play that live

  • I'm sorry cause maybe it's a stupid question but.. why do you have toilet paper on your strings!?

  • @StringsForGlory Description box

  • stock ibanez pickups are always terribad, you're wasting all those strings by keeping them in!

  • Stratocasters really should be called Djentocasters :D

  • WTF IS DJENT!?!??!?!

  • @VonHendrixTV : It's a guitar tone. No, it's a genre. No, a guitar tone. Genre. Guitar Tone. Might be a genre, as well... Or a guitar tone.

  • as long as your equipment(pedals, pedalboards etc) is digital it doesnt matter if you play with a Fender kitty edition. It's all about the alterations your signals goes through. On the other hand, if you have say a messa boogie, and all is analog, then you pay attention to stuff like coils, guitar, strings etc etc...

  • HA! arvasin että suomesta! missään muualla maailmassa ei ihmisillä ole tuollaista partaa! :D

  • @tohtorigyro arvasin ite tosta aksentista.

  • Well the strat has way nicer pickups slap some dimarzios in the ibanez and it would be a different story

  • holy shit. the strat can djent better than an ibanez! what the fuck o.o the laws of sound are broken!

  • what guage strings on the strat?

  • @realmenwearpants 14-68

A set of D'Addario EXL157's to be exact

  • @kodoku42 Lol. 68 on a 25.5" scale.

  • @DanteLeblanc I know Karl Sanders and Dallas Toler-Wade use 70 on the lowest string and they're on drop A

  • @kodoku42 Yeah. On a 27" sevenstring I'm putting 13-65s with a 70 for seventh for F-Standard all the way up to drop-Ab and drop-A. Unfortunately, DR would only make up to a 70 for their "Tight-Fit" round-wound line, which I much prefer over your typical hexa-wound, I really wanted a 75.

  • @kodoku42 @DanteLeblanc That's nothing, I personally use a 75 gauge on my 25.5 scale guitar tuned to A-flat. Shorter scale guitars need thicker strings at lower tunings in order to remain tight and playable, "normal" gauges would just flop around at those extreme low tunings. Also, note on the video, the RGA8 has CRAP stock pickups, they're not even EMG's. Swop the pickups with decent ones and it will make a HUGE difference in my opinion.

  • would you mind going into a bit more detail about how the double gate/compressor works? When I gate it to get nice cuts/stops, I lose power/sustain, not sure how to make it all work

  • lol wow, the strat actually works better

  • What did you tune the strat to, it sounds disgusting!! Will i be able to creat that kinda tone with the stock pickups on my strat?

  • @bean14hawks Not on stock single coils. It's on drop-A tuning and the strings are 14-68

  • why do you tape the neck of the strat?

  • @los I wrote an explanation to the description box.

  • what is that program that you are using? please reply asap!!

  • @WeAllFallDownAP Cockos Reaper. And I'll add it to the description.

  • @kodoku42 thanks a lot man!

  • Comment removed

  • what program are you using

  • Wanna hear the best opinion? the better one depends on what tone you're aiming for.

Certainly RGA8 have a greater depth (on lows, good for breakdowns) and your strato has more mids (good for string skipping and chords).

There's no paradigm in Djent that tells you "Use this tone", it simply depends on what you want as a whole for your song.

So, I would use both of them, each for a different song that best matches the feeling you want to expose.sorry for my english, did you like my opinion?tks

  • @thiago88smart Yeah, they both have their distinct properties altough I would still change those RGA8 pickups. But you have a good point. I'm actually suprised about how much discussion this video has started. But in retrospect this comparison was quite blunt and narrow.

  • @kodoku42 both sound good anyway... I would pick the strato for the tone and the RGA8 for the look

  • @thiago88smart points like that always bring long discussions... everyone like to expose their very single opinions when it comes to comparisons (mainly music/equipment)... its like to discuss religion or politics =P its actually up to you to choose. good luck man, you play preetty well stay like that you'll get a lot of enjoyment and mind development. (and pussies). over and out.

  • Throw some EMG 808's in the ibanez and it will be god tier
