i loved watching this video on surgery for microtia i also have microtia it would mean alot to me if you could check my channel out and watch the videos and possibly comments , subscribe ect :)
i recently had otoplasty as well and it doesnt hurt when i smile, however a blood clot formed in the right ear which means i have to wear the bandage for another 5-10 days which is really annoying cz it may mean i dont get to go to prom, so if ur considering otoplasty make sure you do it when you have lots of time to recover
For those not wanting surgery, try using double sided tape. I can't find the product, it used to be called something like "ear-ees" . There is also an incision-less method that uses stitches to reshape the ear. No cutting, and it's permanent.
OK, I can't find the "ear-ee'" stuff online and I don't know why. However, there is a German doctor who does the incision-less method. I will try to find it.
Don't do it, it might work for alot of people, but there are alot it doesn't work for - i have been left in alot of pain and have endured it for the last year, the doctor just became dissmissive afterwards and all he wants is to put me on strongger painkillers for months, I have been taking ibuprofen for the last year so far as a result - just accept yourself, i wish i hadn't gone near it, it hurts even to smile, i wear a beanie to bed and wake up during the night with pain.
Go get a second, or even third opinion from another doctor! There is no need to be in pain. Make sure you let them know you had them done and need a correction. Insurance might cover the correction.
dude, something obviously went wrong with your surgery. it's the day after i've had my surgery- i haven't even gotten a look at my ears yet, and it barely even hurts to smile(remember this is the day after).
i didn't think it was normal as it is only one of the ears, i've had tried everywhere i can think of to get help and don't know what else to do. the hospital aren't helping at all, and the surgeon doesn't want to know - and it is pointless seeing him as they have left me in his care, but he is just rude to me about it because i complained to the hospital. spent the last 5 months trying to get it fixed or get someone to help me. then they say wait 18 months - i'm from overseas & want to go home 2
sorry didn't realise this was just san francisco when wrote - i'm in uk so u prob don't have any need to worry. its not 7 months, i'm on 3 sets painkillers by gp, still trying to get help from hospital concerned, not happening, seeing solicitor now as no choice can't work and he will send me to another surgeon for opinon - oh did get one free from hosp and he said stitches internally look to be pulling - but they haven't let me back to see him. can't smile hurts, so painful.
lol who cares about big ears. i have big ears but i just wear a basketball headband like hlafway over my head than over my ears, than i grow my hair out n dye it black n the headbands black so u cant see it . but when i take the headband off i just superglue my ears ot my head. it works
i had today a ear operation and you dont have to worry about it you don t feel anything about it..
Don t be scared be confident...
It will be done in about 90 min and the result is good but don t look out for infections that can give you problems but don t think about that ive you have qeustions just ask me greeting
@pwkits aweh its okay , i got mine done a few weeks ago and if they make fun of u becuz u got surgery , atleast u can fix ur problem they cant !! dont be scared it really is only painfull for a day dont be scared .. its worthit
I had this done when i was 9. OHIP even covered it for me because i was "deformed enough". My ears looked amazing when they took the bandaging off, and i felt so beautiful. But now i wake up every morning and hate myself. This isn't a big change to under go, i'll admit, but it proves that i couldn't accept myself without going to great extents like plastic surgery. I was fine before the plastic surgery, and now people think less of me for getting it. You dont need plastic surgery.
I'm in the same boat as you. I had the procedure when I was 19, and now I regret having it done. It would have been better to accept my ears as they were. They even look unnatural now.
Is it possible / usual for the ears to look different due to swelling after the Op. My friend has the top part of one ear - helix area - sticking out wereas the other ear is flat against the head 14 days after the Operation for protruding ears. The area does look bruised.
It takes about 1 week to be able to return to work without the headband and 1-2 days for the bandage to be removed. This surgery takes about 3 month to totally recovery from this surgery but only 6 weeks before you can restart with some form of physical activity.

Not with Otoplasty, you're talking about plastic surgery. I've had it done, it's just reshaping.

Your friend needs to take this up with her doctor if it hasn't been resolved by now.
