Great, criminally underrated song - I'm very glad that this is now readily available in the CD reissues etc of Machine Head. Also, Steve Morse plays this beautifully live with the current line-up... stunning.
always liked purple, didnt know alot of them, but thought they were good old band, watched a classic rock doco one night which ended with this song, somehow had never heard it before. I was stoned and this shit sent shivers up my spine, arguably the most spine tingling solo ive ever heard! still goes right through me!!! btw child in time is an equally awesome song!
I'm glad Guns N' Roses have been inducted into "Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame", but it's a REAL SHAME" it lacks with Deep Purple!!!!! Deep Purple are more rock and roll than Guns N' Roses and Red Hot put together!!!!
@stradlin62 hell even abba and maddona have gotten into the RRHF before purple and alot of great bands such as iron maiden judas preist kiss black sabbath rush and many others that i cbf writing down lol its really just ridiculous and fucked
Its a crime to not like this song. This is one of the greatest songs ever written - with heart, and with talent. Everyone should listen to this. I now listen mostly to death and some thrash metal, but I listen to this gladly always when i can. This song reminds me for the true, great and unshared love.
@Straits84 Come'on. How can you compare Ritchie and Steve Morse ? Can you realise the difference between Maserati and Suzuki anyway ? Both are cars... When RB left, they have lost THE composer (inventor), so the songs after him are just good average rock songs. Nothing else. There is no spirit anymore in the music. If there is no composer in the group, only musicians, that's not enough. So, I would not call DP it, after Ritchie left, but I know it is a business....
Love this track, unlike Blackmore who hated it, which is why it didnt make the album, also there may have been a bit of poetic licence with the choice of video for it, although 10/10 to Rainbow301 for posting it!
wow..was this supposed to be on Machine Head???...why wasn't it?? it would've been great as the last song on a one of the best rock albums of all time...this blew me away!!!!!!!
Also, ich bin weder blind noch taub. das ist eins meiner Lieblingsstücke von Deep Purple, und es hat mir auf Single besser gefallen als die A-Seite "Never before"

I just don't get it. How the fuck does natural selection explain the fact that my eyes well up when I hear the sound of the electric guitar? Fuck. What the hell does it have to do with anything? It doesn't even sound like weeping, whatever George Harrison has to say on this matter. Why the fuck do I find this damned sound so fucking beautiful?
@rmf09024 maybe, i also know this from the DVD, but that for, he did a great job here, i allways say ;) Steve Morse is also a great guitar player, but this Song, the newer live versions are not..hm, i only like this version, its intensity is unique.
@ClaptonDennis blackmore has a way of getting to you when he plays like no other guitarist, he is not affraid to voice his opinion and doesn't hold back his thoughts, this is why he is probably the greatest guitarist ever, just remember there are a bunch of people who kind of sounds like blackmore but blackmore sounds like no one, he is the true genius here
@rmf09024 Well, he's amazing. But remember he's the sole reason this song was hardly played at all live. He didn't like this song, but the rest of the band played it on shows when he was sick and they used a replacement.
@rmf09024 It was released on a B side...which kind of speaks for itself. :) If I had written this song I would have praised it night and day and spent every nickle I had on getting it out in the belief that the masses would buy any record I'd make as long as this song was on it...it's just that amazingly good.
The sound of the guitar is really beautiful and reaches the depths of my being! On the other hand, the interpretation of Ian, spectacular as always!!!!!!
