@AGstudiosAG when i was doing it over n over n over again it wasn't working till i looked on the comcast online guide and it says after u get the tv to turn off press the setup button to lock in the code then press the power button and it should turn on worked for me immediately (red select button remote)
thank you for the information. it took a few trys to get it right but it does work. i had to do this cause my remote didnt come with a manual so this was incredably helpful.
@Bank545 Unfortunately your going to have to talk with Comcast. You have one of 3 problems. 1 bad remote, 2 bad box, or 3 wrong remote. Comcast has 3 groups of boxes with remotes that cannot be used with the other 2 groups. The box codes are locked in and cannot be changed. The first group is easy. It is a small remote that only work with the boxes that get the basic channels and no VOD. The is where it gets messy. The second group uses the remotes I have pictured in the video.
@Bank545 Cont. This second group works with boxes about a year old or older. The third group works with boxes less than a year old. These remotes are identical to the ones in the video except the top of the remotes are a little darker gray. Techs. call these "Platinum" remotes. If you have more than one box try the other remote. The problem you have should be simple to fix but could turn into a nightmare without eyeballs to look at the box. Call a tech out. Good luck.
@Cosme422 hey i broke my remote for my cable box. but i have another remote that is just like it from like 2 years ago when we had comcast as-well. how do i program this remote to my cable box. not to the tv, but to my cable box.
@jay713bby, The remote needs to be unlocked and then programmed and then locked back up. The remote can be programmed to an SA box (Scientific Atlanta) or Motorola. To unlock it you need a code (which I don't have right now) and then the code to program it to the box and then lock it with the same code used to unlock it. I'll see if I can get those codes for ya.

Hi broadbandman...I did this technique and it works to turn my TV on and off, switch the channels, but my volume/mute button doesnt work! Does that mean I need to redo it? I have a LCD Samsung
@xelarican03 Usually when volume does not work, you need to go past the first code and on to the next code that shuts off the tv. On the newer remotes it is usually easier to search backwards by hitting the channel down button instead of the channel up. There can be several codes that will partially work on some tvs. That makes searching for codes very difficult. When I was a tech I would usually tell the customer to use the remote that came with the tv after finding 3 partially workingcodes
@xelarican03 I gave up @ 3 because of the time constraints of the job & most of the time there were not any more codes that would work. Some tvs have 5 or 6 codes that partially work. Some tvs just don't have a code that works correctly. I can't remember the exact #of codes, but between 250 & 350 codes you start going through the list again-if you didn't find one that works you won't. Usually only a new model, a really old model, or an off brand model would have this problem. Good luck.
Your welcome. Glad I could help. I spent 10 years as a Comcast tech. Remotes were always a major problem. I have not worked there for a few months now so I won't know when they change the remotes, but the two videos I made should work until then. As far as I know Comcast has no plans to change them.
Thank you and Merry Christmas.
