I can understand them calling it boring, there were too many "180"s in it. You kind of got to a point where you couldn't keep track of what you thought was right and so begun to be able to care about the characters
Overall I thought it was extremely thought-provoking, I thought the bit where Poppy has supposedly died was really well done, the fella in the lift and that party sequence was well done (even if we'll never know it actually happened or if it was in their heads)
It was a sad little thing to watch, but very moving, great acting/narration by Anna, but I agree the fantasy/delusuional elements were hard to fathom. It was different, I liked that. Bit of work could turn it into a series!
commercial consumerist world - That sort of a thing but not just because she lives that life, more questioning what is normal in the first place. Although what I actuallt ment by taking on Poppy's identity is that that is trate of a mental illness.
I ABSOLUTLY agree that institution were completly useless, they didn't try to help asingle person though out the whole thing.
Your vid is well done :) , although the relivance of sexy pictures of them is what exactly? :)
Overall it was really odd, not what I expected.
I know making it unclear exactly what is happening is kind of the point, to protray the madness but it ended up making it hard to follow or to understand what it actually ment, the point it was trying to make.
Poppy was used by the hospital to make N feel better, so they could get rid of her and others - but in the process it destroyed Poppy..Who is mad? We live in a judgemental world.
The staff at the hospital had been observing their relationship, there are also references to Big Brother, when she walked in the board meeting at the end there was a mirror they had been looking through.
I do find it hard to believe that Poppy couldve been so sad when she had a beautiful daughter an all, she just seemed to deteriorate fast after she entered that place, but N came on leaps and bounds, then got discharged. Having said that though its sad Poppy became trapped
Yeah but that's not proof, that whole thing could be (and highly likly is) someones delusion. (Like N's ballarina type thing.)
Poppy had a nice life but obviously can still have a mental illness. She's not depressed and so on because of her life but because the illness makes her that way.
N didn't actually get better though, she was still ill and still similar to what she was like in the first place, she was just caring more about herself.
The pennys just dropped I know what your saying now, that people who aspire to the commercial consumerist world are less sane than those who need to stay institutionalised to feel 'free' from the real world.
Maybe the message (as you say) is that we have an unhealthy obsession with normality and being perfect (all the things Poppy aspired to) that in the end she lost it completely, whereas N was somewhat a veteran and didn't help Poppy survive the system she fell into.
The 'catch 22' situation certainly blurred all the lines, it was as if she first of all realised she had to behave mad for her 'mad money' then when that backfired it all became a bit messy. I think something we could agree on is that the mental health institution comes off this quite badly, saving beds for the nhs etc, and failing Poppy completely, whatever the reasons for her being admitted.
I've just read the review in todays 'Guardian', calling it boring, shallow people, grr :(

Nah, that's not what happened.
Poppy had mental health problems all along but she diguised them well.
FreshlyBakedCookies 3 years ago
Funny you should say that cos we thought that halfway through watching..!
The flash imagery is just hype on my part, I needed pictures of them in other productions, its just the way the whole thing got thrown together.
N seemed convinced of my theory right at the end didnt she? The one-way mirror is proof that my theory is correct.
auteurmobile 3 years ago
What do you mean about the mirror?
You can't trust anything in it though really, because they are all 'mental'.
There are fantasy/delusions during it.

Some people say that she was actually iller at those points and that she was taking on Poppy's identity.
