I knew many Khmer Kroms and friends in my school in Saigon and they were happy to live with Viets and being treated equally, much better than being racist against them by the Khmer Kadal and being chopped by Pol Pot supporters back in Cambodia.
These Khmers students are lucky to get $180/year. No other countries in Asia give students money. These Khmers are refugees from Pol Pot time and they are settled in happily in VN.

That is a school for young Khmers living in Vietnam. These students must be issu from at less one khmer parent (mother or father khmer). They recieve all thinks free like schoolfurniture, shoes...during their collegial formation and university. Thay get an additional subvention over than 10-15 usd per month (for food). This is the minority politic of gouvernment vietnamese for khmer people.
Kampuchea Krom is Cambodia's old territory from colonial days which now is part of present day Southern Viet Nam. Kampuchea Krom is a mix fusion btwn both Cambodian and Vietnamese.

TO EVERY ONE: cppcanada was a refugee from Phnom Penh in 1975 to Svayton. Now his family stayed there in Svayton (belong to Vietnam now). In US, same same, students learn in english; in Canada, they can learn in english or french (or both). If u want to learn english, u stay a school; if not, u can go anyway u want. Justification: Some of these students were refugees from Khmer rouge regime, but niw they are not considered as refugees. They are Vn citizens. All students studying un this school must having one or both parents are from Khmer people. Vietnameses students (from Kinh people) are not admitted in this school, except children of vietnamese veteran. The first condition to admit is good result of school.

I visited some hight schools (in Tra Vinh and in Triton, Angiang)reserved for Khmer youngs. There are Khmer courses in educative program. And in a lot of khmer pagoda, khmer monks teached also khmer language to khmer young people. But khmer language is not usual in life in VN that the reason young khmer don't learn khmer.

Should I remember you all empire will fall down in a certain moment, not only Khmer empire. In History, there are also other empire falled down, do u know which empires ? So Khmer empire is the one of them. Do u know why ? Because the Khmer like u cannot adapt to the evolution. You want keep power and kill everyone thinking different of you. You remember me about a stupid khmer who think that Vn change all khmers village name, because Vn intended to invade Cambodia. For example, Vn called P-Penh as Namvang, Kompong Cham as Dung Cam...then in 1979 Vn invaded Cambodia. In reality, Vn like Chinese (same culture) call by their own language a lot of village name, that's their culture. If Vn caled P-Penh = Namvang / Chinese called P-Penh = Kim That...If by dedction Vn intended to invade Cambodia, Chinese must be too.

This reply is for your education: So how about other countries ? Would Vn will invade other countries, because they change also the village (city) name of several countries. By example France to Phap; Paris = Bale; USA to Hoa ky; Wasington = Hoa Thinh Don; China to Trung Quoc, Tian nanman (Peking) = Bac kinh, URSS to Nga or Lien Xo, Moscow = Mac Tu khoa, etc.
Why Vn change the city name ? Because, in a way, they translate how chineses called in their language.

By pass Son Sen, a Defense minister of Khmer rouge is khmer krom, that means murderers were not exclusively khmers loeu, khmers kandal, khmer krom. Vietnameses (chineses) changed the most village names or cities in the world in their own language; not only khmer villages. So would they envade the world ? Surely ! Your reflexion is too short (because your knowledge is). Then you are easily falled in the simple deduction. That was the way many pretending khmers 100% committed in the past and they became BAD khmers, they became murderers as Khmer rouge gang.

The present is consequence of the past. The best thing u have to do is not to stay in your glorious past; but u can change (adapt) with the new situation (that's flexible) and evolve in the present and the futur. For this way, u have to learn good things from other societies (countries). I still wonder if the Vietnamese have done well to change their writing character and be updated with the world evolution.

This situation is not different with khmer young people in America or in others countries. The new generation khmer people don't speak their own language (khmer) for usual reason in life. I have some friends khmer krom who left Kampuchea krom for PPenh after they get their doctor title in vn school.

The situation IS different. In America, we have the OPTION to learn what we please. In Khmer Krom there is something called FORCED assimilation that inhibits one from learning one's culture and heritage. Read the news. It's nothing new with Vietnam.

Yes ? In US school what langage do you learn ? Khmer or english ? In French what langage do you learn at school ? French or Khmer ? And in Cambodia ? Vietnam is the same thing ? If in US and France, school is obligatory for youngs; in Vietnam is too.

I learned English but I'm also afforded the opportunity to learn whatever else I want. I also was able to keep my own name whatever that may be. I didn't have to change it to receive any benefits I have been given. Please learn more yourself before you speak on behalf of those who can not.

So in Vietnam, Khmers do the same thing like you. They learn vietnamese but they are also afforded the opportunity to learn whatever else they want. They stay alway Khmer like you; but they live in the vietnamese border they learn vietnamese, as some others Khmers learn Thai in Thailand or as you learn english in America. What's the difference ?

@cppcanada forced acculturation equals suppression. US's constitution preserves individual inalienable right. How many khmer krom people that has given the right ? forced people to adopt the Viet name and changed all names of their villages, towns, and provinces to Viet name is not a just act. In US history there is no individual is forced to relinquish their own name, towns, and villages .

Do u know how many Khmer living in US keep yet the Khmer given name ? I'm not sure that yourself have a khmer name on your identity card.
For your info, ladysharky1, most khmer pple in Vn keep yet their khmer name in their identity card. If someone want to change the khmer given name for some reason that's is their rights (same about Khmers in US).

@cppcanada the evidence that Viet steals and takes advantage of the region of khmer krom has stood attest until today, for just one example only, changing the khmer name Prey Nokor to Saigon. you translated all 23 regional provinces of khmer krom land to the Viet name. By way even the character of your Viet writing has been stealing from French's charater. These are just a few proofs.

For the 23 regionals that Khmers loose to Vn, Vn can call them what they want. I have not to comment it. I repeat that Khmer king had married with Vn proncess. He (Khmer king) needed, via this relationship, Vn troops to fight the Siams invading from the West.

Nobody help u 4 free, specialy from Vn that Khmers (as u) can become in a night killer of Vn. The good thing u have to do is realist (to be united without discrimination). Don't easily accuse someone thinking different of u as YOUN. Some Khmers in the past (and prensentely) use this method to accuse their pple. KK were considered by Khmer kandal or Khmers rouge as Youn, So they killed KK without pity (bcz they think they kill Vn, not Khmer). U have to learn more from khmer history.

About villages named, how about in US ? Don't say me that all village in American have a Mohawk (amerindian) name ? I have to remember u that America was the land of differents ameindian (first nations like Siou, Mohawk...). Come on ladysharky1, if Khmers choice a vn name or american name (for pratical reason in the life) by thinking they can be Vn or American, that's their choice. Vn support the vietnamese in Cambodia ? i don't think so. Cos' the vietnamese in Cambodia are poor. so they support the vietnamese in richer countries like USA, Canada, Australia ...which we don't need!! For me, my great-grant mom is khmer krom. Even though i don't speak the language and no matter what the khmer krom are always in my heart. I still have relatives there too...

Khmer Krom are Khmer just Khmer whose traditional lands are in what is now South Vietnam. They live in the old Cambodian Empire territory of the Mekong Delta. Saigon or Ho Chi Minh City was actually a Khmer City called Prey Nokor

What is the condition to become an empire ? To invade terrytories and extablish his power, his administration. So that's the practice will run in the past. In a world without frontier (border) a society cannot stay homogeneous (not like under your empire (khmer), Please look at the Cambodia situation by the eyes of a civilized (educated) person / I hope u are because u're living among civilized people in USA. That is a school for young Khmers living in Vietnam. These students must be issu from at less one khmer parent (mother or father khmer). They recieve all thinks free like schoolfurniture, shoes...during their collegial formation and university. Thay get an additional subvention over than 10-15 usd per month (for food). This is the minority politic of gouvernment vietnamese for khmer people.

Kampuchea Krom is Cambodia's old territory from colonial days which now is part of present day Southern Viet Nam. Kampuchea Krom is a mix fusion btwn both Cambodian and Vietnamese.
