I get the outrage about what the LOSS PREVENTION OFFICER did; However lets not get confused about the law. California Penal Code 490.5 states that ANY employee of a store can stop a person if they BELIEVE that the person is guilty of a crime. Further more the law allows a private party ( loss prevention) to use the least amount of force necessary to affect an arrest under P.C 837. What the officer did may look bad but was completely legal under the law. - 10 years Training officers.

@mattbrandy05 The stores policy does not permit physical contact unless they are being attacked. There was no need for security to do a take down and chock lock the victim. They did not in any way present a threat to either of the security guards. All I can say that if someone in street clothes attacked me, and I haven't a clue what's going on, I am going to give him the fight of his life. Of course, being 6-4 and 245 lbs with 5 yrs on the force helps quite a bit.
