Hey mate, do you have a vid teaching the one-footed stop using the rear foot (I've heard it called the 'Anchor stop')? Basically I mean using the outside edge of the rear foot to stop whilst pulling your leading foot up.
@Imnotsur3 Depends on a lot of things, but if you just got your skates sharpened, than yes that will contribute. Also depends on how you pitch your blade during the stop, and also depends on tightness of skates and type of hollow sharpening you got.
@Prolite another thing is should my ankles be able to move left and right, i dont mean within the boot i mean as if im wearing a normal shoe or no shoe at all? or should they brace my ankle so it cant move?
@Imnotsur3 They should move at the very top. Your ankles should be able to pivot. However, you're not stuck to any particular design per say. You can modify your lacing so that it fits your style of skating.
Once we did an exercise while training. We get speed and stop on one foot sliding as far as possible, more than 10-12 metres...(we are figure skaters.)
Okay, i'm thinking of playing ice so i started ice staking at Altricham. and i saw a few people sliding for like a meter and half. anybody know what it's called?
I too skate at Altrincham, have done for 2 years, ask the Marshalls to tell you who Ben is that used to marshall, hopefully i'll be there for them to point me out though, i'll try to help you
This video teaches inside edges. If you're looking for outside edges, the T-Stop and R-Stop would be what you'll need. I have footage for them but haven't created create tutorials for them yet.
I think it won't make much difference on stops. When your blades haven' been sharpened for a while, you're more likely to slip while skating. But it makes spins easier I've been told. :-)
Hi i am just starting to get back into my ice skating, and i havent had my blades sharpened for a whil, will this make it easier for me to skid/stop or wil will it make it harder?
thnx for this vid m8 i can finally do this now really well at high speeds =) can u do a tutorial on the sciccor stop plz i reli want to learn tht =) cheerz
Thanks for your comments. We're currently working on membership accounts so Xtreme Ice Skaters can be officially recognized by the end of the summer. And beginner testing will be underway by the end of the year -- so we won't be doing new tutorials until next year. Sorry for the inconvenience. I'll answer any questions though. Send me an email at the official website about the scissor stop so I remember to answer it.
I allways found this stop alot easier than the hockey stop, when ever i do a hockey stop i normally hardly use my left foot behind but i guess i need more practise to do the hockey stop...
Tuck stop is when you "tuck" your foot around the other. One Footed Stop is when you bring one foot to the other knee as high as possible, all while keeping both arms in a straight line.
Ohh.. ok that sounds reasonable btw, i'm a bit confused about the straight line thing.. as in keep both arms in a straight line horizontally or vertically?
I can do the one-footed stop (i actually learnt that one before stopping with both feet) but i've never tried tucking it in, but anyway whenever i attempt the one-footed stop, both my arms kinda naturally fling up and point horizontally. After that my arms fling up to form like a 90 degree at the elbow.. mm, can i correct that in any way?
Keep both arms horizontally, but on a angle facing downwards. Lessons video 2007 shows this a bit, and the "how to stop" video shows this near the end before it goes into the credits. Sorry for confusion but all of these little details will be in the rules book video. This video will come out later this year (a LOT of hard work; it is time consuming).
Yes. Anyone from any country can join. You would simply pay a small fee for an annual membership. You would get membership benefits, privileges, a certificate, and a registration certificate that recognizes you're an Xtreme Ice Skater. This would be placed on the official website. Details are on my channel page. I just updated it today.
Haii Dan..How are you?... This trick isn't hard to learn.. I'm from GErmany and out of Dortmund.. I'm the first girl is doing Xtreme ICeskating =).. but.. could you put a video into Youtube with the inside foot stop *I don't know the real name in english* this is the *outside foot stop*
Glad. It is a Beginner trick. The first female Xtreme Ice Skater is from Hungary and she is in my favorites. Thank you for your comments. I am very busy with tutorials but you can ask me questions about the inside foot stop.
You must use your arms, and they have to angled and in a straight line. This is for balance, use of energy, cognitive training, proper form, and for entertainment. It will be required for beginner testing.
hmm i juz went for iceskating for the first time and for 1 hour i only know how to balance and walk on the ice even though i did fall down after that. does anyone know where there are video where it teaches u how to move forward and backward correctly?
I've tried learning the two footed stop but i find i just tend to turn more, i can do a one footed snow plough but it takes a while to stop. is the one footed stop easier than the two? when i try to angle my foot to stop it just spins me
Yes. YOu need to slow down your stop. Go really slow and concentrate on pushing your front foot FORWARD. Make your arms straight. I have a "How to Stop" tutorial coming out this weekend and it will discuss this issue.
Hey thanks for the tips i can do the hockey stop two footed but the one is still out of my league till i can learn to ballance right.
I can never seem to ballance right or sometimes i try to stop but in correcting my ballance i kind of glide to the left after the initial stop (if that makes any sense at all let me know)
As a poor skater (I get by, but barely lol) I find sliding stops to be frustrating. Not necessarily as in this video..just the typical sliding stop, one foot forward, the back foot also on the ice.
If I go right-foot-forward, body turns left, I can do all right. But the other way (left-foot-forward, body turns right) my front foot just digs in and I launch myself lol.
I've tried practicing, tried to see what I'm doing different from one side to the other... but no luck.
Yes, that's true, but you should start off with blades that are not so sharp. This is a beginner move. As you get better, get sharper blades, or a deeper hollow sharpening.
when you stop you lift the foot your not stopping on up from behind you mine would be on front of me because im stoping on the outside of the blade i will try upload a video showing you this evening
when i do this stop i do it on the outside edge of my skate so that the foot not on the ground is above me does this cause a problem ... sorry if its hard to understand what im saying
Instead of turning your body clockwise to stop on the inside of your left blade, you turn anti-clockwise and stop on the outside of the blade instead. Just a different way of doing it.
I need to learn the left foot ones... sometimes I hate being a figure skater... you get way too comfortable on one foot. Hmmm!!! remind me to video a friend of mine who does a crazy spread eagle pushes... just like crossing over on a spread eagle bent position. Funny to hear your East Coast accent too!!! lol
You need to find someone who will. It took me a long time to find someone good. Even still, I have to tip the guy a lot of money to make sure everything is done perfectly.
