The A & D ointment for 3-5 days and the vaseline intensive care are a good combo, but keep in mind that the Vaseline Intensive Care is actually a lotion and not vaseline only that it is made by the same company, but it really does work because it has vitamins and minerals and is alot less expensive than other products. You can even use the generic store brand for less than $2 a bottle. If you go to the dollar store you can get everything for less than $5 and it will last.
Try using a natural or organic oil like kukui (from the kukui nut) or grapeseed oil. They are very calming and soothing and can be dripped on and lightly tapped in. Rubbing pulls and irritates. Avoid wax and petroleum based products as they will clog pores and actually slow the healing. They will keep the skin from drying out, but not as well as organic oils.
use H2 Ocean, thats the best stuff! the old tattoo goo is not good (the one in the tin) you put you dirty fingers in there and can possibly get germs in your new tattoo (open wound) atleast use something with a pump on it.
Tattoo Goo is possibly the best stuff to use, you can use it once your tattoo is done, on up untill your out of "goo" and it keeps your tattoo moist and it prevents massive scabbing for a better looking tattoo. i recently got one and this tattoo goo stuff is my best friend
2 days? the artists at the shop i go to and at other shops ive always heard do 4 days or 5 of ointment. then either go to like regular hand lotion no aloes or other times ive heard people say just keep using the a and D ointment until it stops peeling. but instead of using it twice a day just use it like in the morning
@Terminator860 are you stupid or something? try doing a tattoo, you need to know how to keep it still, and you need to know how to draw and stuff like that, so shut up when yo dont know what you are talking about
i got so many friends there learning, or there is professional, and i'm getting my own in a couple of weeks, so i think i know more about it, then you
the issue i see with tattoo aftercare is that everyone has their own opinion and their own products to use. theres like a million. so no one ever agrees. thats the annoying thing. and every tattoo artist says to use somethign different.
hmm i used vaseline for the first couple days like my guy told me, and i'm on day 7 now. i'm pretty sure the color hasn't faded, but after the top layer of skin came off the one below looks really leathery and looks like a plastic bag scrunched up kind of... i assume it's normal for mine since it's on my leg and it's been moved around and has had clothes on it and stuff, but should i be taking special care of it somehow?
no, vaseline will smother your skin when it needs to breathe. it's not good to use. You should clean it 3 times a day with mild anti bacterial soap, gently, warm water. then let it air dry 10 min & put small amt of lubriderm unscented, that's it. Nothing greasy, it will make the tatt look like it's bleeding & old. don't use anything that smothers.
i like lubriderm but the best ive found is the lotion they use in hospitals. its fragrance and aloe free. its very thin for a lotion.... almost like its watered down. i just use it about 3 times a day and my newest tat healed up so good. i got a few pics of it if anyone wants to see. its animal from the muppets on drums. very cool tat
sorry to disagree but dont use no white lotions as many (e.g savlon)use a kind of bleach to turn their lotion white, and may dis-colour your tattoo, you are much better of with a clear lotion such as preparation H.
You still didnt say HOW to apply the lotion, you just told us what type of lotion to use.

preparation h is an ointment not a lotion and if its put on the skin in large amount or basically more then u need then it can actually pull ink out
