Well we assume that, because THAT is what very well might have happened. But the whole idea that everyone else could recover like them if they had the will to return to their original forms, is probably likely in the thousands. So lawl =P it's not shown but suggested either way.
The Writers wern't the ones who were depressed, it was Hedaki (mispell?) Anno who was depressed. The writers were alright, I guess, and the people in charge of each episode wern't as crazy. The director of FLCL worked on Episode 8 (which might explane why Eva Unit 02 looked so kickass with that cape-like thing around it.)
FLCL was also a kickass show but damn I would not have been surprised at all if the creative team behind that one just wrote down whatever they saw during an acid trip while watching Lupin III and FLCL was the result.
lol. Well FLCL was sopose to be randome. The alien girl was possobly the one weho brought this craziness with her. I like FLC because of many anime refrinces and some kickass fights. It also has some meanings like the main character seems to be maturing and such and I heard that the things that grow out of his head represent puberty or something...I don't know *shrugs*
FLCL is basically EVA condensed down to six episodes, with more phallic symbols, and all the religious and philosophical allusions replaced with pop culture references.
Which is not to say that it isn't a work of genius in its own right. Because it is.
Utter nonsense!! Evangelion without its cynical, psychologically piercing edge (AKA depression) wouldn't be nearly as powerful as it is. On the contrary, I'm worried about the Rebuild films and live-action project NOT reflecting the disturbing psychological edge that made the original series and films so potent!
@gatotsu911 I just plan on keeping them separate in my head. I love the movies but nothing can top the series. It will never be the same as the series, but can be good in its own right. I just love that even after all these years it still gets analyzed to death.
btw, did any1 get the ending? Rei starts bleeding outa nowhere and then all of a sudden everything disapears and you see Rei sitting on the dude(forgot his name). In the end, the dude had to strangle the german chick so she would stop suffering. what is the point or moral of this series? i dont get it. everybody says they dont get it. especially the last 2 eps of the series Y.Y it's so confusing Y.Y plz help me
I don't get it as well. Haha. Supposedly it's rapture, or something. They say the last two episodes only happen in the minds of the characters. So the objective reality is the one you see in the movie. What I do (if I don't want a migraine) is I skip episodes 25 and 26 and then go straight to the movie.

Ah EVA, the most over analyzed anime ever made.
I love this show, it earns its classic status and I don't know if I'd say its THE best anime of all time, but its certainly on the top 10 list.
Heres hoping the new movies, no to mention the live-action movie, stay true to their roots of excellence.
Course this time the makers probably wont be on heavy anti-depressant medication when they are writing the script.
