I used to catch these along with garter snakes. If the snake ran away from me fast, I would not chase it. But if it just sort of moved a little and slowly tried to hide, I'd pick it up. These ones never musked on me. Totally wild snakes that have never been touched would become gentle in my hands and curl up against by body. The ones that acted scared, I would release. If you want a pet, hold out for a friendly one that likes your body warmth and if it doesn't adjust to captivity, let it go.
why can't i find any captive bred specimens of this species? I remember not long ago it was possible to find them, but now they're nowhere to be seen... Do you know if there's anyone doing any breeding projects with these guys?
You found that while running some errands??? Some people search their whole lives and never see one of those! Excellent find, man. It is a very docile snake... very cool :)

Where I live there are only two species of snakes. The Northwestern Garter and Rubber Boa's. Both non-venomous and I've NEVER seen a Rubber Boa.

now that's one I'd like to touch -- looks so nice and smooth. GREAT shots - close ups through the grass!
waywardmuse 2 years ago
they are trippy feeling. you kind of need to handle them to really see their details.
i like close ups and movement shots, so that's what i try to capture. doesnt always work that way though.
