It is utterly impossible to get burned out on all of their songs. Back in the days of cassettes, we would just let them run day and night, auto-reverse and not even flip the cassette over. Genius !
@cujo9 ...You have obviously not heard of the poem that this song is adapted from. I desperately suggest you look up Allen Edgar Poe's 'The Raven' and READ it - the story narrated in the song should make more sense and will dampen the idea of it being over the top. In fact, the story has little to do with the raven as the animal at all.
I heard this back when I was waiting in the car for my sister's appointment to finish up. She had it on a modern hits station, but I was going through the stations and found one that played nothing but classic rock. This was the song that played when I switched to it.
My English class just finished reading the different stories of E.A.P a few months ago and one of the stories was the Raven! That's when I remembered that APP did an album dedicated to him! and also This Song is Awesome!
@L2766W I only got to know of him because of the fact that he produced Dark Side of the Moon. I am also a fan of Edgar Allen Poe. The way he made the lyrics fit was really clever. If you read the book, it's different, but he did it really sensitively.
wow ! i just learned that Leonard Whiting (Romeo in the classic 1968 movie of R & J) is lead singer for this song ! (according to Wikipedia) .. the early Alan Parsons Project albums are like old friends that I haven't been much in touch with for a looong time, now resonating poignant memories and moods from the evr-receding years of a now distant youth ... (Love that movie, too!) ... very happy discovery in their connection ...
@euell Just found this out myself. In 1976 I was 13 and worked with Leonard Whiting in the theatre. It feels odd that he recorded this around that time ; now all these years later I have discovered this song and this fact.
@madison166 verrrry cool ! ... life has some interesting hidden connections that occasionally get revealed to us. Makes one wonder about all the undiscovered ones surrounding us all about down through the years of our life's trek ...
@euell As a young actor I met a lot of interesting people and Leonard Whiting was very interesting. He should have been huge. A terrific actor, great husky singing voice, looks to die for and VERY cool. So what happened? Here's my experience.
After only one week in this big show he had a massive row with the director (I know I was in the same room). He walked out the door and we never saw him again. Maybe he got an industry black mark for this incident cause then his career just disappeared.
@madison166 wow ... heavy ! ... now I gotta wonder how many amazing talents have been thrown under the bus of industry-controlling egomaniacs ... or whose careers suffered the fate of self-hamstringing through lack of self discipline ...
And still the raven remains in my room No matter how much I implore No words can soothe him No prayer remove him And I must hear for evermore Quoth the raven, nevermore Nevermore Thus quoth the raven, nevermore.

A great tune. I believe it was done with the members of Ambrosia as well. David Pack - Guitar, Joe Puerta - vocals, bass, guitar
Christopher North - keyboards, backing vocals
Burleigh Drummond - Drums

An incredible cut from Tales of Mystery and Imagination! One of my favorites.
The problem w/ Alan Parsons was their lack of putting together tours to promote the albums or they'd have been HUGE!!!

And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, STILL is sitting
On the pallad bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demons that is dreaming,
And the lamp light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor Shall be lifted- nevermore! It's people like Poe that make this stuff worth reading

What an ambitious subject for a first album and how well carried off! Alan Parsons is underrated in rock and roll.

I always wondered why his career was never as great as it promised to be.
