  • That's a Beamer for ya :)

  • I'm doing dual ram air intake on my car here soon

  • @itscody317 Ram air is a pressurised air intake system.. Typicaly there is a scoop at the front of the vehicle that "RAMS" or forces a large volume of cool air in to the intake as the car or bike moves forward.. The faster the vehicle goes the greater the volume of air is pushed in to the intake system and your vehicle senses the increased air and compensates by adding more fuel to keep the mixture at its most efficient ratio for burning in the combustion chamber for the most part.

  • this has really inspired me, I think I might have a crack at this myself.

  • wow that bmw sounds amazing! thanks for the video :)

  • dope e36 maybe doing this for my e39 540 soon :)

  • Great job bro!

  • nice job man i made mine this weekend before seeing this vid all i did was cut a 4 inch hole out of my factory air box and put a dryer vent in it and sent it just below the wheel well. needless to say my 60-100 has greatly improved and it seams i use way less gass peddle for the daily driving. i spent about 15 bucks in parts and another 10 on gorilla tape lmao

  • You've really done a great job with this. I'm amazed how many people are clueless that there's just no point in ANY kind of modified intake, if the intake air can still mix with the hot-ass air in the engine compartment! Pull in outside air (or as close to "outside" as possible) capture the positive air pressure (ram) as you've shown in your video, and you've got a winner. Great work--very informative!

  • I stumbled upon this video while I was at college. Now with your idea I have been making custom ram air intakes for several people. I have gained 20+ horsepower on my Altima and now average 27 mpg in city and 40 mpg highway. Great Job!

  • I clocked it....0-60 9.6sec for the Grand Marqui......Nice job!

  • Nice Video! Probably the only person on youtube that actually KNOWS what he is talking about.

  • Why the hell are people disliking this video? It is a good video and has good ideas. Good vid!

  • @snake10566 Agreed, I don't understand why the hate, it's a basic, and functional, mod. The heat shield combined with a ram-air is definitely a great combination.

  • choice man grate film

  • i would love to see the mechanics face when he does work on you car. lifts up the hood and sees aluminum foil and tape hahaha. as long as it works

  • cheap and simple ... if u dont care bout looks i guess u get the same performance out of a $200+ cold air intake for only $70 and some work

  • I really like that! Do you have dimensions of the metal piece? and a install video with pieces separate beforehand?

  • whats the difference between a cold air intake and ram air intake system ...whats better and how can you tell the difference

  • short ram will sit in the engine bay which will suck in hot air while cold air intakes are located towards the ground more where it sucks in colder air. Short rams are sometimes worse after your engine bay starts to get really hot. it will keep collecting hot air instead of cold. Hope this helps.

  • i have a probe v6 no mods for it. only one of those steel piped intakes from autozone. :( it might help a bit..

  • Dosent it supposed to be alumminum to increase heat exchange? What if you intake pure welding oxygen into your engine? What will happen ?Lol please answer me...Maybe 30% pure oxygen and 70 % normal air?

  • great video! thanks for sharing. I have been wondering, how a short ram intake increases fuel economy? Anyone know? thx

  • Comment removed

  • i got a polo 1.6 classic 1999 its got a air box on the top of the engine but i dont think its carb or injection im not sure but how can i put k&n on should i just connect on the intake of the air box or should i remove the whole box and just connect like that help needed thanks

  • Hey man if you can try to remove the stock air box and make ram air like in this video, but if you want to be a little more creative build your own like I did in my second ram air video

  • @gu81singh nice setup bro! i'd like to run this whole thing right down by the grille on my 05 P71 to get max air using spectre tubing from pep boy's it's cheaper but use a big k&n filter

  • grate man finally someone is making vids that he knows what he is taking about not like these stupid kids in the internet

  • Hey I am dying to make one of these for my accord. I have been researching about intakes and keep seeing warnings about too much air in your car. Basically that it is damaging for your car because your stock engine is not able to handle it. How do you know if you are not adding too much air and how much is enough??? I have an 1997 accord btw...4 cyl

  • an intake will no fuck up ur engine the only way u can fuck up ur engine is if u put a leaf blower in the intake and still it wouldnt be enough to fuck it up

  • interesting video, i have an K&N filter on my civic, its given me about only 5 more hp... can this setup push more hp's?

  • Yup, the more air the more power

  • what do you think of the brand spectre filters? because they are quite a bit cheaper than k&n

  • k&n is a better filter and allows for better air flow, spend the extra money it is worth it

  • I've heard about ram air and i don't know what the difference is between 123 and 4 if anyone could help explain ram air that would be very helpful

  • btw nice video, very instructional and detailed. i might have to add some stuff to mine, but i am thinking of getting those fake hood scoops and cutting them out to make them functional. if i do that i will have to create a new system or i could always try both, the more air the better. filter and tube limit the flow but you gotta push that limit. i figure $80 for the scoops or $500 for a ram air hood plus painting it plus installing it, plus new intake design probably a good $1000.

  • also forgot, i just did this to my truck but not to this extent about a month ago. mine has a tube running to the filter also but i didnt make the box around it or put the mesh on the front or make the opening really wide. so my "just cleaned" filter has a bunch of bugs and stuff on it since there is no mesh on mine. all got forced thru onto it. i noticed a slight increase over just K&N intake by doing this. but probably a bit better if you do all this.

  • Thats cool man. Try to filter the tube more and you will have a easier to maintain system

  • i drove my dads 94 crown vic which would be close to the 96 marquis on here. this is an improvement i will add the video of a stock one for comparison, if supra320man lets it stay on here. if not check my channel for it.

  • Naw man I have done alot to the BMW. I put a hygrogen generator on it reciently

  • was that the only mod to both cars?

  • Nice Job!

How did you mount the metal isolator for the SRI? and what's the drawback of not installing the temperature sensor next to the air filter and depending on the MAF further down the piping to do the job?

  • with this system would you need to put a bypass valve on it to avoid hydro lock?? jw

  • If you keep your K&N filter well oiled you should not have a hydro lock issue. Just stay away from Puddles and deep water.....and keep it well oiled!

  • hey man thats cool man u should make a video installing an air intake in that beemer man

  • hey man great stuff man!!

how did u learn all this man

    get back at me.....

  • I just messed around with my car and had fun all along the way

  • I thought this was going to be a joke @ first.. you know with the whole carboard scoop thing and duct tape.. but it was good,

  • nice vid man

  • Man, this video has given me some great

ideas since i bought a ebay intake and just put a K&N filter on it, and i think it is still not getting enough air, thanks guys great video very creative

  • Nice K&N plug :)

  • nice video 8^D high five on the double clutching my friend

  • the shield would help direct the air flow but making it ram air is the most important

  • I got a mushroom filter, you think wrapping up the mushroom filter in foil and then "funnelling" the wrapped filter into the pipe coming in would work? basically making it almost like a sealed pipe from the outside to the intake manifold

  • dude you should get a cone, the mushroom shaped filters dont work near as well.

  • great job!, could i just use my stock rubbish elbow? i figured if i make the intake shield it wouldnt much matter.

  • that would help bro

  • good thinkking i was actually thinking of it thats why i looked it up...i might work on it but without the box...mustangs have there intake inside the side front panel so wat i might do is just connect the entire hose to the filter.... whtat u think?

  • Hay nice Ram Air box. Few questions, does the air filter gets dirty a lot faster, and so far have you noticed any performance drop as the filter get clogged up? Or it doesn't get clogged up?

  • Yeah you have to clean the filter more often because more dirt gets directed to the intake but its worth the extra cleaning

  • yea, it will get dirty alot faster, and obviously the performance will drop as it get clogged because it cant get as much in.

  • 3:21 nice voice crack, but a good idea man, i may try this on my car thanks

  • It would work better than stock, but the more air the better.

  • Can you just pop off the existing box filter and put on a cone air filter? and leave the stock intake hose? how do you think that would work?

  • That would be bad ass man

  • I wanna set up a ram air system from the stock hood scoops on a 1979 firebird formula.

  • i added cold ram air to my falcon and you can't even tell...cut out the grill in the boonet and fiberglassed it to smooth it and painted it matt black, put mesh on the freshly cut hole, put a larger snorkel on and put a pod in the airbox. Will post soon ;)

  • thats awesome man

  • Piece of shit cars!!

  • Lowes and a lot of hardware store have sheet metal in various sizes and grades. If you live in an area where these stores don't sell any than simply go to a local metal shop.

  • I set up a velocity stack with a 3" tube running into a modified air box. The top of the stack is behind the grill(that has been modified) and the tube(4.5" long runs into the box.)It works very well with the cam, head work, header, and ignition up grades. You really cant see it at all when the hoods open.I blacked it out.K&N filter of course, and LC Engineering.

  • Nice man

  • where did u find steel like that

  • what about the snow with the 1996 grand markie does the snow get up in there?

  • nice video was thinkign about making a wall around my filter too to block out engine heat

  • You have to find strong pieces in steal or in thick plastic to attach the steal to. To see how to make the intake watch my other intake video

  • what do u mount the steal wall thing to? just find random spots and drill holes and use screws?

  • Lol...vacuum pressure, how? And for some reason I like how you say elbow.

Good job though dude, I want to slap an intake onto my SI. Peace!

  • good idea im going to make mine stick out of the hood though :) that will be fuckign sweet

  • that mercury really got going just like that..that thing is heavy two.

  • yeh fair enough looks kinda dodgy but u guys did a REALY good job very impressive thanks for the info :)

  • wow. i am surprised it sounded like that lol. sounds tight dude

  • that shit looks ghetto. But good work!

  • the second filter is a breather filter right? where is that conected to? the Pcv valve?

  • On the BMW the smaller white filter is over the air temp sensor to protect it

  • i got another ?: i have a stock 97 tbird and i still have the box that sealed the stock air filter, if i put my CAI inside this box instead of down low in the cavity would this increase my hp at all?

  • The stock box will always reduce airflow so if you plan on upgrading your intake that is the first thing that should go.

  • so are you really getting 10hp to the wheels from that? i got my k&N CAI but theres no box to trap the air like this..

  • The K&N is a great filter but unless you can force more air into the intake then you are not getting the full horsepower benifit. So the better sealed it is the more power.

  • awesome, beats the hell outta payin 3-4 hundred for a name brand

  • yeah nice now my Renault Megane goes better

  • If you have a direct pipe from the hood scoop to your intake and water gets in there...you're toast. What you'd need to do is have a natural filter. So it goes...Scoop (up high) - ram air box - with drainage holes at the bottom - air intake tube (up high). That should prevent water from getting your air and keep the air box from getting soggy. You should use something like an aluminum air box - you dont want mold or rust.

  • excellent vid man, those are the tutorials we all want! great one, and you bmw, its fuckin great

  • man that was almost too easy, my s-10 goes like all around for the 2.2 but ya i dont got the ram air i might think about that. good vid

  • as long as you don't put it to low it will not suck water into the engine

  • don't put the intake close to the road and you will be ok

  • like it, i am gunna do this to mine for sure, but...my ecu is in the air box, i am gunna have to fina a place to mount it so its safe. live the work u did though. last week, i made one for a duster

  • Put the valve back on where it fell off. If you don't know where that is look around and if there is a part broken off put the new tube back on there as long as it is the same size and shape. If it is then you are in good shape or you can take it to someone to look at it. Good luck

  • where does the valve go??

  • hey so i was taking the stock air box out of my friends 92 325i and we broke some kind of coolant valve and coolant sprayed out of it, what did you do with that????

  • You have to be careful when you remove the intake airbox. I didn't break the coolant valve, but in your case just replace the valve and refill the coolant to the coolant level line in the reservoir.

  • creative
