This was sung for our 9/11 Memorial Mass tonight a Mass of Remembrance and Forgiveness. Perfect, fitting music for the evening and so beautifully rendered.
oone further point the Pie Jesu with different orchestration was written by Gagriel Faure as part of his Mass. As far as I know he didn't wite for Broadway and wasn't gay but then you may have greater knowledge than I. you certainly seem to think you have.
If Anna Netrebko is here on earth then heaven must be seriously missing out! I aspire to be the next Anna Netrebko, she is beautiful inside and out and the voice proves it! Brava Anna, Brava!

Dios Mio! I love it when people bitch in Spanish. I'm just glad that La Bellissima decided to record this particular album. Her voice has grown and she has a great range, but it's her middle that really gets me. One can feel the passion and feeling in her voice and in the delivery of the words, who cares if you know what she is saying. As hobby musician (violin, keyboard, guitar) my ears tell me that Anna sound fantastic and also better than Jackie Evanchos ... but I understand Jackie better (although I have problems with latin) and I like Jackies voice a lot because it is so soft like velvet. I hope Jackie will not change her voice too much ... I would miss it.
Why not listening to very different sounding singers?
All mentioned are quite different. Some are trained professionally. I think Hayley has little training and none in opera. And in fact, I like Netrebko better than anyone in the opera scene today! But I can say is that I have never heard any of these ladies compare themselves to another singer and say, "I am better!" They leave that to regular fans, and a few opera snobs! In truth, I love them all, and for different reasons.

@LouieInSeattle Comparing Jackie Evancho to a professional, trained opera singer with a mature voice just doesn't seem to work. Jackie is a self-proclaimed crossover singer who has done covers of everything from pop music to popular arias. Anna Netrebko is an opera singer, who sings opera. The genres are completely different. This version of Pie Jesu is effortless, ethereal, and absolutely beautiful...the best I've heard, out of the dozens of versions I've listened to.
@LouieInSeattle I guess everyone is entitled to an opinion, but anyone with any kind of voice training knows that Anna Netrebko & Jackie Evancho don't even live on the same planet. Anna Netrebko is a goddess. Maybe Jackie will be too some day, but that hasn't happened yet.

OK, i'll put them in the same sentence: Anna Netrebko is the ONLY one on that list who is better than Jackie Evancho.
Is it remarkable that the best operatic soprano in the world is better than a TEN YEAR OLD GIRL? Not to mention the fact that the best part about this is the contrapuntal line with Andrew Swait.

@ericrub1Please don't group Jackie Evancho in with the rest of those people. She's only 10/11? and is so much better than the others you mentioned, and will only get better with age. I just listened to this song by Brightman and Church, and both were really terrible sounding. Jackie hits notes that send chills down my spine, unlike this Anna girl does. :)

Jackie evancho is much more modern, for she learned the modern versions of this song. These singers sing the real versions, and in the right wayss. no saying jackie evancho isn't bad, because her voice is ammaazzingg. but just saying that this sounds different because the type of opera and the time at which they learned this.

Jackie Evancho sounds better, unless you like the forced bottom-of-the-barrel sound of Netrebko. Who knows, maybe this was just a bad recording.

Definitive version of Requiem Mass is by Gabriel Faure- who, unlike Andrew Lloyd Webber, was a genius.
However, only Webber got to fuck Sarah Brightman.

How can some of you even put Netrebko and Church, Brightman, Aguilera or Evancho in the same sentence? Please stick to what you know, which must be Paris latest fragrance or the Kardashian's latest love fiasco and leave any kind of musical commenting to the experts! Netrebko is a one of a kind Opera Diva in her prime, the rest are extremely bad popular versions of what a singer should strive for!

@ericrub1 How? Because that is how the connections are made within them. We cannot tell someone how to perceived music, it is a very personal thing which relates to their life's experience and level of uderstanding about music. We just respect each other, wish the best from their musical experiences and allow each to learn and grow musically at his own pace.

@MrRagtimer The reason I am a Brightman fan as well as Netrebko is that Sarah's voice reminds me of my mom's. When I was about 15 I began to realize what a high voice mom had. I walked over to the piano and asked her to show me how high she could sing. Without a warmup I began playing up the scale and she hit an E or F above high C. If only she had had musical training when young instead of being homeless during the depression.

OK, i'll put them in the same sentence: Anna Netrebko is the ONLY one on that list who is better than Jackie Evancho.
Is it remarkable that the best operatic soprano in the world is better than a TEN YEAR OLD GIRL? Not to mention the fact that the best part about this is the contrapuntal line with Andrew Swait.
Your comment is fair regarding the other adult singers, who obviously don't compare to AN, but give Jackie a few years & we'll see.

@ericrub1Please don't group Jackie Evancho in with the rest of those people. She's only 10/11? and is so much better than the others you mentioned, and will only get better with age. I just listened to this song by Brightman and Church, and both were really terrible sounding. Jackie hits notes that send chills down my spine, unlike this Anna girl does. :)

Jackie evancho is much more modern, for she learned the modern versions of this song. These singers sing the real versions, and in the right wayss. no saying jackie evancho isn't bad, because her voice is ammaazzingg. but just saying that this sounds different because the type of opera and the time at which they learned this.

You do no credit to the opera community by being judgmental of their unlearned opinions. You are quit ignorant if you can't see the beauty of Church's and Brightman's voices, just because they are different, and not up to par with greats like Fleming and Netrebko.

@ericrub1 "Stick to what you know" is the worst music related advice I've ever heard. So what if someone is a pop music fan - surely if they are exploring and finding they like classical music this is a GOOD thing, not a reason to abuse them?!
