It wouldn't surprise me if some mammoths still existed in North America somewhere up north 100 - 200 years ago. I mean, we have vast, vast miles and miles of uninhabited terrain in the western U.S. and Canada, and Russia is even more of a wilderness. Some of the Mammoths existed in Russia and Alaska up until 1000 BC or even later, and it is likely some lived on after that. Mass extinction of most mega fauna really began in the 16th - 19th centuries.
It is now believed the Irish Elk and some other ice age mega fauna survived in Europe until the middle ages or even later in some locations, so it wasn't a neat and tidy overnight magical "extinction" 10,000 years ago, it was gradual, and took thousands of years for many of the big Pleistocene animals to go extinct. We're still finding many many new species of mammal today in jungles and high density zones. Sadly more are going extinct. it sucks.

Excellent video. The elk were nearly extinct here in the US, but thanks to conservation and hunters who helped rebuild the herds they are thriving in our country. Overpopulation of deer herds is harder on the animals. They have to be thinned out or they start starving out, especially in dry years and harsh winters.

@kingbattlef3 I'm from Australia and Red Deer whilest having a nice set, certainly don't come close to 400-500kg like Elk. Most Red Deer stags worth taking are about 200-250kg. Massive difference in person then through a picture. Even the great Sambar Deer are smaller then Elk.

Skilled hunters kill in one shot, which makes it humane. The reason they kill these animals is actually for the animals own survival. The amount of these animals are counted constantly. Just figure out, how many can live of this area. They all need a good habitat, territory and food. And if you got 400 deers in a little forrest, they'll get sick and starv to death, i guess thats better in your opinion. Our real problem is actually over 6 billion people on our planet. Not enough space for animals

@kingbattlef3 I'm from Australia and Red Deer whilest having a nice set, certainly don't come close to 400-500kg like Elk. Most Red Deer stags worth taking are about 200-250kg. Massive difference in person then through a picture. Even the great Sambar Deer are smaller then Elk.

Skilled hunters kill in one shot, which makes it humane. The reason they kill these animals is actually for the animals own survival. The amount of these animals are counted constantly. Just figure out, how many can live of this area. They all need a good habitat, territory and food. And if you got 400 deers in a little forrest, they'll get sick and starv to death, i guess thats better in your opinion. Our real problem is actually over 6 billion people on our planet. Not enough space for animals
