My Min Pin learned the exact same ways you described. She knows Sit, stay (up to 100 yards) Roll over, play dead, gunshot, and dance pretty. They are incredibly smart dogs, but as you said short attention spans.
The gunshot actually ended up being one of my girls easier tricks to learn. Once you teach them "Play dead" its a piece of cake.
You have to be very patient and persistent. It took me days to get my min pin to do roll over. She's not as still as yours, she gets all wild and bouncy at the idea of treats (amazingly she was the calmest of the litter). It is amazing how smart they are though!! I'm gonna have to try that play dead one, that's really cute.
My min pin knows "bang" and "wave" they are actually easy 4 them to learn if you are willing to teach :) My min pin is very willing at times;) Very good work tho:)
Each command should only be given once. If no responce, place dog in position you commanded, pause, the praise and repeat. 20 or less minutes per training session is sufficient early on.
can anybody tell me any tips on training my min pin??.he seems a little stubborn.and i dont like to..you know...hurt him or anything just to make him follow.i need help.
thnx for all the comments! havent checked this in ages! They are VERY intelligent and yes, super short attention span haha. And they wont do anything unless there's a treat, well at least mine doesnt haha. As for how i taught him roll over and the play dead trick, i just made the hand gesture and command then pushed him over with my hand (and roll him over), then id give him a treat, eventually he'd get it.
@ihavebighead do you think him being fixed has anything to do with how well he behaves and listens to you? i mean i have a 2.5 year old min pin named Radar and he is waaaaay to hyper to learn tricks. were you able to teach snoop tricks before he was neutered?
my min pin can't do anything, no tricks...but she can bang on the door when she wants a donut or someother type of treat. i always think she's gonna kill herself she rams the kitchen door like BANG
He is so smart and cute. I love his collar. How old is your Min Pin? I have a female and her name is Harley. She is almost 17 months old. I've worked with her on several tricks and she's good too. Be looking for a video of her soon.
I taught my parents dog to do that stay trick with the treat. (He's also a min pin) I actually was able to get him to stay after I left NO JOKE. I would do it at the front door, practiced for weeks, started by turning my back, then by opening the front door leaving, waiting a minute and coming back. Very smart dogs, smarter then they lead on. They try to play dumb to get away with stuff but I'd rate them a 9.5/10 intel wise, -0.5 due to their attention span. Ours is the same way: SIT SIT SIT SIT
Did you teach your dog these tricks by yourself? Impressive!

The play dead took him about 30 mins to learn and a few days to do consistently. roll over took a bit longer. All i can say is be persistent haha.
