  • lauuuve this movie!

  • I used to be a werewolf, but I'm all right nAUUUUU!

  • David Thewlis is just so incredible! I am stunned by this performance every time I see the film or when I watch these clips. How he did not get an Oscar is the greatest mystery of all time!

The way he recites those lines in the security guard scene! It is just outstanding! What a legend!

  • David Thewlis is just unbelievable!

  • Eh!!

  • This is possibly my favourite film of all time. I have seen thousands upon thousands of films. This is the one. Definitely the best British film ever made in my opinion.

Best film of the 90's for me too etc etc. I saw this at a point in my life i needed to see it. Hit me like a brick over the head. Very powerful.

And it changed my life. Mike Leigh really is one of a kind.

  • David Thewlis has got a bloody great character in this film. In fact he's got a lot of great characters in a lot of great films and TV shows, and do you know why? It's because he's a bloody brilliant actor. I know for a fact that I can't act half as good as he can but I keep fucking trying because if I ever even meet him I'll know I've achieved something.

  • "You're not in it now, you're not in it now, you're not in it now!" "I used to be a werewolf."

    <3

  • I bet that guy would have been pissed 12:01 AM January 1st, 2000. LOLZ

  • @charlesburns1993 He probably devised a new prophecy and continued stalking the streets in an attempt to prove his intellectual superiority. Thus is the life of bi-polar nihilists.

  • Best scenes of this brilliant movie, for me were Johnny and the security guard waxing lyrical about the nature of life, the universe and everything. 'You're not in it now, you're not in it now, you're not in it now........' David Thewlis should have had an oscar for this. Robbed!

  • @meldme i totally agree!

  • great

  • i've seen this film soooo many times, but watching the 'maggie' scene still had me in stitches

  • @porpsi EH?!??!?!?

  • Great film. I can't understand why they don't show it on TV again.

  • Maggie!!!

  • 'are you taking the piss!? fuckin givin it away aren't ya?'

    :)

  • Well shes obviously noddin along and agreein with him

  • Bittersweet realism. There are no words. One of the greatest films.

  • '' porridge covered glens'' .. HAHAHAH ..

  • "What's with the The Highland Fling".......LOL

  • go professor lupin! give him the lecture!

  • "What's it like being you? Bit hectic?" Genius!

  • Kinda funny how he said he used to be a werewolf. . .and years later he was cast as Mr R.J. Lupin :D

  • Can't believe Katrin Coolidge is dead. What a shame. Weird that there are no pictures of her on the net. She was fit. I liked her as Lucy in Brooky. Tragic loss.

  • @MegaWarlock09 ... Katrin Cartlidge

  • He is like...ungodly attractive.

  • Such a Mike Leigh film, love it.

  • rip Katrin Coolidge

  • nice selection.

my personal favourite is the "boredom" bit ...

    cheers.

  • One of my fav-movies. SECRETS AND LIES is another one. Leigh's movies are just ingenious. (maybe not Happy-go-lucky...)

  • I just love David Tewlis! And ihs voice....!!

  • one would think that the predictions of Johnny are irrelevant now, but someone like me who likes to imagine would interpret it in this way. It could mean that the world did end in 1999. We've certainly been dying since the turn of this century. "The end is nigh. The game is up." We're already dead.

  • it's out on dvd now seantarleton. i found it in hmv just before chrissy for about £7.

  • i watched this movie in 93. exellent

  • Does anyone know where this film can be seen online because it is impossible to find it anywhere

  • @seantarleton I was able to netflix it.

  • it is online, if you type it in a google search it should come up. It's on stagevu - it will come up as DVD but click it and it will link & load a video of the full feature @seantarleton

  • MAGGGGGGIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

    Lol!!!

  • You....ROCK.

    CHEERS .

  • This is one of my all time favourite films, haven't quite seen another quite like it :D

  • Wow, looks like you watched it recently. I just watched it tonight and I actually really liked it. I never watch obscure films like this because usually I find them to be really pretentious but this wasn't like that at all.

    David Thewlis is genius.

  • @OmgitsNeens I am glad you liked the film but the the pretentious films bit is a bit ridiculous.

  • @OmgitsNeens "I never watch obscure films like this because usually I find them to be really pretentious" ....why do people think any film that makes you think for yourself is pretentious and to be avoided?? It's sad... why do people assume films have to be easy entertainment? I think it's just like music..what they here on a day to day basis in adverts etc. seems to make them think that is the entire worth listening to existence of music in a nutshell, same with magazines and crap films

  • 1.: I like listening to David Thewlis.

2.: He is one of the best actors of our time.

3.: Did anyone consider to collect all the quotes in a book?

    4.: Thank you, Mike Leigh.

  • ...."how to talk shite in a fortnight......having a bit of trouble with the transitive verbs..." larfed my hampton off.

  • quote: " I used to be a werewolf..." XD...can´t help but i associate it with HP movies everytime i watch this lovely clip !! ^^

    - yeah i am a bit "loony" =(^_^)= -

  • @Jarethsgirl86 I thought the same thing. I was like, "REMUS!"

  • @Jarethsgirl86 DIE IN A FIRE

  • Only discovered this masterpiece LAST NIGHT! Unfortunately was only able to catch the first 20 mins, it's not available on DVD as far as I know. If you know otherwise please advise!

  • There is a dvd; Criterion put out a very nice one. A bit pricey, but worth every penny. Great film with a great performance by Thewlis. One of the most quotable characters ever.

  • wow watched this film with a girlfriend back in 1995 in dublin, we got drunk and screamed MAGGIE all the way home pissing ourselves with laughter.....dark, realistic, funny, etc etc
