That money does belong to the people without the people those retards wouldn't have it in the first place. Non inherited wealth is earned at the exploitation of someone or something. That is the only to earn it in a capitalist system. You wouldn't have that money to leave your already spoiled children and grandchildren, if it weren't for the middle class that does all the work pays all the taxes and gets nothing more than a small paycheck for a dividend
@deegan45 Obviously this is something that we are just not going to agree on. Which is fine. My alternative is to keep government as local as possible so we can all see the return we are getting on our money. You are right, it is an easy tax. There are relatively few people who will pay it, but a better alternative would be to cut national government spending. If local governments need money, you and I could have a more direct role in the spending.
It's a lot easier to voice concerns to the mayor than the governor or president. And get out of two wars, cut the corporate tax give aways, get rid of spending on local pet projects. Basically let the national government do the big things, and the states and local governments do the everyday things. And if this was really a good way to raise money, why not take it to the next step. Take 100% of every inheritance. If 50% of those inheritances over $8M is good, 100% of everything must be better.
That way we can pay for more schools, police, firefighters, the GREATEST military in history, roads, bridges, post office. What I find rather humerous is that when people that are for raising taxes talk about spending, they almost always only mention the essentials that government is responsible for. Hardly ever do they say, we need to pay for the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame or ethanol subsidies or paying farmers not to grow things. I don't grow crops either. Where's my money?
@deegan45 So what if they get a boat load of money? Why is it that you think the government should get there hands on it? Who is being greedy now? They earned it, but we want it, so at gun point we take it.
@deegan45 What difference does it make if they will be just fine. I cannot believe the arrogance of people to say that they shouldn't have money because they will be "just fine." I know a lot of people with extra cars and tvs. Should we take them because they will be "just fine" and I know people without cars to get to work and tvs in the house? How about control spending? That's a good way of cutting the deficit. How about get out of Iraq and Afghanistan? That's an even better way to cut it.
How about getting rid of this ridiculous tax code that invited outside interests to cut loopholes and gives benefits to those with influence. That would be a lot better than yet again taking money from people as if it belonged to the government in the first place.
@deegan45 Who cares if they didn't work for it. Their parents did. And if they so choose to leave all of the money they acquired over the years to their children, then so be it. Why does the federal government believe they deserve another crack at the money?
like some republicans use to say: if you tax the rich, they are going to avoid the tax. so tax the poor, they can't avoid it.
don't you think it's nice that social values have such a high value in the US? wouldn't america be a nice place for all those hardworking americans, if those needy 99% poor assholes would just go away? complaining about 60% taxes.. My 5% tax makes a higher sum for the state...

As much as I like Bill Maher, chances are, he has an accountant who finds tax loopholes just like any other rich fat cat.
