This is the story of just about any UK "new town" eg Stevenege, Basildon, Swindon, Peterborough. Particularly Milton Keynes.
They almost work, but people don't ride around on bicycles like in this film: they drive cars, And lots of them. And they are very segregated as communities.
Ironic that this plan didn't work either. I live on an estate that is the spitting image of that plan. The flats turned derelict and pulled, loads of waste ground and whole streets are boarded up.
This is a great example of wrong urbanism as a result of the modern movement on the early 1900's There's no human scale at all, just car or big transportation logistic scale product of the unavoidable, destructive and monetary development
Cool old film, thanks so much for posting. Pity the New Town dreams were not as successful in the long run.

Building period is a cancer in itself, what they need to do is keep everything spread out, build withe acreage not with compaction!

Developer Bill Levitt built four communities, all called Levittown.
They are in New Jersey (now known as Willingboro, NJ), New York, Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico.
Levitt had a similar plan to what is discussed in this video.
I'm surprised that by 1948, English authorities hadn't learned their lesson on making a "greene countrie towne" from William Penn back in 1681!
Most of the streets in Philadelphia are laid out in a grid pattern, and the north-south streets are usually numbered.
