  • this is class - how to create tension from complete silence for over 10 seconds!

  • This was actually 1999

Anyway, if you want to skip the silence and see the brilliant advert at a headstart go here>>> 0:17

  • Anyone else feel like taking some Es and going to a rave?..lol

  • @malechauvinistxy ah the good old days. All loved up and out for the weekend in North London.

  • whats the songs name ???????????????????????

  • @sport231

    Leftfield---Phat Planet

    Cheers! :)

  • i always remembered this ad :) it was far greater than any programme on tv at the time and i used to look through the 3 ad channels to find it hahahah

  • @zxcthethird i meant 2 channels dont think 5 was out then ... god im old

  • @Zttbm so it failed, that's the whole point of an advert

  • i think it was sean bean that did the v.o for this advert

and it wone a bafta at the time

  • Not exactly original in concept: this is a direct rip-off of the painting, "The Horses of Neptune" by Walter Crane (1845-1915).

  • @flowerbower where do you think they got the idea dick head

  • @callummacewan But that was my point, moron; 'arty' types pretend that their stock-in-trade is originality and imagination ... and they do not exhibit any! Art cannot hold a candle to science.

  • @flowerbower Does it have to be original to be inspiring? The visual of white horses driving the wave front is powerful in Walter Crane's painting and, to me, it's powerful here. Looking at all the comments on this video, I don't think I'm alone in getting chills down my spine when I watch this.

  • @AlamoJane 'White horses' has of course long been a poetic term for the spume on breaking waves. So one could argue that the Crane painting was just a laborious metaphor.

Perhaps I am just very resistant to being swayed by artistic works. Such sentiments are too easily manipulated; in this case, by mere alcohol-producers.

  • @flowerbower It may be an advert made by 'mere alcohol-producers' but watching it makes me want to go outside and run or swim or dance because I'm alive! Again, don't think I'm alone in feeling like that either. I'm not going to make any sweeping statements about art being fundamental to being human because well, it's each to their own. I do feel sorry that you don't experience the same pulse thumping, primal feeling though. Turn it up and turn it up loud! 'Scuse me I'm going for a run. :D

  • @AlamoJane Sure. But be cautious. If one gets caught up in things at that emotional level, one will be a sucker for those who are all too ready to exploit their audience ... at that level: mere alcohol producers and other advertisers, religious zealots, politicians, etc.

  • Guinness makes epic comercials!

  • was this advert actually from 1998?

  • 3 people can't wait

  • i'd drink it if it done that

  • this advert didnt improve sales of guinness

  • @leda1974 Thank you very much, I feel stupid now!

  • @AndyBearr You're welcome, and don't feel silly, it took me a while to find out what this was, too :)

  • One of the best adverts ever.

  • this was made in 1999 cause it said on the 100 greatist adverts and btw this one was no.1

  • shame that prick doesn shut up

  • shame youtube stole some of the bass =(

  • it seems like time stops when you watch it

  • If you took away the reference to Guinness at the very end this could be a short film in it's own right. One of those 90 second things that get shown at festivals and on channel four and what-not. I love the horse and waves and Captain Ahab references.

  • awesome i could watch this over and over again

  • epic

  • probly the best ad ever made

  • @traboys has been voted the best ad ever made, they used the andalucain horses from the Lippizaner school in spain, and rusty, a real Maui surfer....

  • @traboys amazing ad! remember reading how they made this in the magazine from guinnes and heard phat planet agian this week when i put rythym and stealth on my ipod and couldnt beleive seeing it again...youtube is the best ...quallity , and no ' rent a celeb' in sight !! i totally hate adverts except this one...
