@cyclops23666 Yeah, everyone wants to copy apple! I wish everybody else would stop trying to give us something new and just accept what apple gives us! I mean Steve Jobs said we don't need a card reader, webcam or usb ports.. yet. So why are these others trying to give us that. Uncle Steve says flash is useless & Html 5 is the future so it must be true, I now hate flash, too.

I like the Ipad because its here now and real. The slate never showed up!
While the Slate has a Desktop/Laptop OS that also can be its downfall.
I have an HP TX2000 and it supports touch but single touch only.
Even with MultiTouch on Windows Devices including the Desktop/Laptop, your really only controling a mouse and directing the movment of the mouse instead of touching the window or icon in target.
You end up Calibrating most of the time or working really slow! IM GLAD I have the IPAD!
yeah. once apple sees this they will sooooo get flash! then it will be better than this. looks like apple needs to step it up. once it has that camera and flash, so long windows!
Its kinda small.... although it does have a lot more stuff than does the iPad. Plus... I am an Apple fan but I still think the iPad is over-priced! Doesn't even have a webcam or something to skype on! =_=

@Soccerboy801 It runs flash. Adobe teamed up directly with HP to make this thing awesome. It has H.264 encoded video acceleration, so the CPU load is less when watching internet videos. This takes the iPad and pulls a Daniel Tosh, hits it with a golf club.

Dont get me wrong I am not an apple fan boy by any means, but I love my Ipads battery life, nearly get 18-20 hours before i have to charge it at 2%. I am very interested in this Slate though, I heard it was put in the back burner
A. If Mr. Jobs say I am announcing a new product, It runs perfectly, but it does not have a card reader, no usb ports, no professional software can be installed, it has no camera, it can support flash but we will not allow, It looks beautiful, the battery last long & it has an apple on the back.
B. Mr. Gates says I can give you all that is lacking plus more on a slightly bigger unit for about the same price!
The minds of Ifans: Sure I can do more with the slate or Win 7 tablet , Install software, run programs, have total freedom, with flash, USB ports,print directly on any local or network printer Skype with a webcam, get my photos through a cardreader, edit professional quality pics and vids, and soo much more.
But I like Ipads, "They're cuter, and thinner" I've got apps and games, thats all i need.
the iPad is an over grown ipod. it doesnt have a desktop OS. apple has tricked everyone to think its amazing.. its not.. i want to see them make an iPad with their desktop OS for once.. like everyone says the slate has a DESKTOP OS *coughWINDOWS7cough*.. oh and for those who think video calling was invented by apple your stupid.. its been out there.. apple has their heads up their ass.

Apple screws Ifans and they Love It! Ifans brag about app numbers and when HATERS LIKE ME! tell them how useless they are in windows world, they defend Apple! Example you ask? My Windows Tablet PC and Netbook can view videos from Youtube, Hulu, Veoh, Netflix, Play Tons of flash games, See videos from ABC, and more! Ifans No flash so you must install an app for each! Somehow that makes since to Ifans! The control is obvious! Ifans love limits!
@mdtrue Apple products are stable. They have no viruses at the moment. When I recieved my Macbook Pro and similarly, Ipad, I downloaded just about every freeware and app to try them out. That would be impossible to do on a PC due to all the viruses. In this case, Apple is one that is less limiting because I am free to trying anything I like. Of course, as a whole, Apple is less versatile than the PC, but I know exactly where its limits lie. I weigh stability and security over versatility.
@MrSantaClaws1001 I am not anti-apple, I occasionally use Macs. I just have found no use for the Ipad in my line of work. When on location I shoot video & photos with the Canon t2i, I can pop the SD card in my tablet pc, view or edit on site. I can design graphics with photoshop.
If the ipad has any software or "apps" for producers, designers, photographers, web developers, please, please let me know.

THIS IS WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM ON A PORTABLE SCREEN. HOW can you not find this exiciting. (We are running Photoshop, Sony Vegas, Quickbooks, Acid Pro, Director, Avid and more here because we have USB PORTS and Gigabites of memory) While you guys are tweeting, playing phone games and running T-pain voice changers. @mdtrue: What's wrong with with you windows fans? Imagine trying to activate small windows controls with your finger. Imagine trying to use software designed around a two button mouse with your finger. The biggest advantage the iPad has over this is not just the number of apps but the fact that the apps and the UI of the device is "design" for touch.
I use windows 7 at work M-F 9-5pm at work but I'm not a "fanboy" so I don't believe that it is the appropriate type of OS for a touch based slate.
@aristotledude I don't have to imagine, I have now and in the past used tablet pcs, windows mobile pcs, pocket pcs and more, only until apple big button apps came along that Mac users and Ifans act as if human fingers are too big for small buttons.
My new windows 7 tablet pc has one finger operation and does it well.
Double Tap= double click
Tap and Hold = right click
Everything else should be self explanitory

Fact: Children's toys and games use big buttons because kids have a hard time with little buttons (Big Letters in kids books, Big Pencils, Crayons, Markers etc.)

I think the nice thing about the slate is that you can download most things you want straight off the internet, instead of having to pay certain royalties straight from Apple.
@mdtrue One reason it does not excite me that much is that it seems to be exactly what you said - Windows. That OS has a UI which is designed to be used with a mouse and keyboard, neither of which you have with the slate. This means using you finger to navigate menus and icons which are going to be tiny on the screen.
For all the flexibility, I think the usability might be compromised because the UI isn't designed to fit the form factor.

Yes A mouse and a keyboard will make windows easier to use, however it can be navigated on a touch screen easily! Why is it so hard to understand, Ifans? How fast is it? viruses? slow downs? glitches? Personally, i prefer reliability. any intelligent person will admit that the windows is more versatile and a more open ended product. In comparison, apple's hardware does a very limited amount of functions. But what it does do, it does it well. I like the feeling when i turn on my mac or my ipad and know what i will get and know that i will certainly get it. I used windows products for years before converting. it was very unpredictable.

Any one notice how similar it is to the iPad? The same black border around the screen, pinch to zoom, aluminum body. And I mean shit dude, HP's new line of laptops tried to copy the MacBook Pro with the same curves and having the border around it's screen and then they made the mouse pad flush with the body! I don't think people notice how much HP has taken from Apple.
@rajithaify No, the iPad is almost 8 months old. And the Slate was introduced a few days after the iPad. And even if the iPad came out after the Slate, then the Slate would still be copying the relative design of the iPhone and iPod touch. And further more, this does not even touch the fact that HP made a whole new line of laptops a few months back that almost mimic the design of the MacBook Pro and air line, which came out more than 2 years ago. Get your facts straight.

@fuzzynoob2 IOS is Mac OS x. The OS on iPod touch, iPhone and iPad is the same as what the Mac computers have. Apple just removed and rewrote some of it for improved battery life. And why would you want a slate with the same OS as a laptop? Thats redundant and stupid. Just buy a laptop. But the slate has been discontinued so I don't give a shit.
@eujeeves no windows 7 because it is too resource heavy. maybe if microsoft made a decent os they could put it on a machine like this. it is webos, now, and i think iOs is better.
@UserName222222 I would've said Vista was more resource heavy. 7 came out of Vista's ashes to run much faster so in saying that a tablet edition of 7 should make the cut.... Who knows everyone might just install Android on their slate :-/
@eujeeves you're absolutely right that vista was way more resource heavy. 7 is still too demanding for these little tablets, though. the programs were running slow and the battery had a 5 hour life(with smaller programs.) they probably won't put android on them, although it is way better than webos, they will more likely put chrome os. we can dream, right. i love google

don't you people read news? The HP slate with win 7 is dead, whatever HP will come up eventually will run on WebOS and it's gonna take some serios time and tweaking in order to have a WebOS based tablet.
seems like hp has recently taken a fancy to apple products... hp ENVY = macbook pro, new pavilions = macbook, now the slate = ipad... but they all are better because they learned from apples mistakes.
@txprodigy95 apple products are all minimalist designs, meaning they aren't designed at all. the materials are nice finishing touches but it's nothing that they actually have to bezel out.
@part2themovie im not talking about the cosmetic aspect obviously they both are beautiful and simplistic; im talking about "whats under the hood" the internal tech specs are an amp up from the apple product while being a better value, but i believe the apple products are more of a better quality of hardware like there durable aluminum uni-body but that also has to correlate into the price. i have an hp g60 and envy the metal body of macbooks.

I have a G60 and it overheats like a bitch but I got it for $500. bang for buck apple will never win. all their products are directed at a demographic that like niche products and who really dont care about the specs, most would cite apple customer service, warranty etc as key selling points. that's fine. other than that there's nothing special about anything apple makes. HP has some nice new ones
@part2themovie i totally agree with you; hp has really done up the pavilion and gave it a more fresh classy look too bad it resembles a macbook only because as you said before they are not really designed and are just simple. and it is true that most people who own macs are not very tech savvy ergo "it just works" but they are very good all the way around.. they are gamers thanks to nvidia. but every thing has a luxury and apple is a "luxury" computer company.

Hehe swanson you're funny. First of all, it will beat out the iPad. The iPad sucks, if you know anything about it, it's just a big iPod Touch. The Windows OS can do whatever Microsoft wants it do, including multitasking, multitouch, touch screen.. i.e. everything the iPhone can do and more. The iPod Touch's OS is based off of Mac OS X, as this Slate's OS is based off of Windows 7. Flash doesn't suck. Please research more before you try to flame an obviously superior product then crappy iPads.
This "slate" will never beat out the iPad--good luck even trying! Going with Windows is going to be a fundamental flaw--Windows never has been, is not currently, and never will be able to take advantage of the multi-touch interface to its fullest because it is fundamentally designed for a mouse and keyboard. MS would be best to re-design a totally new operating system from the ground up, just like Apple did with iOS. Regarding Flash, I think Jobs and Apple know what they're doing, Flash sucks!

What r u talking about. The ipad is pretty much a tablet computer. Records show IBM were the first who actually developed tablet computing. Not apple the little thieves. If you didnt notice mac os is pretty much a linux based os, marketing it as their own.

@windssoul: I always test out the new products that come out.the only problem is the fact that I've been doing what these "new" products are doing and I am thinking for myself..I'd rather have something straight out the box that works without having to download additional software from the HP, Dell, Compaq site and something that is reliable instead of windows 3 windows 2000 windows Vista..so forth and so forth and that's why I love apple products..the software and computers are designed by them

Also, it could easily beat the ipad because of the forward facing video camera with skype, it records hd video, and actually has adobe flash built in. @TheTechzorro The slate has a full os. Every thing you can do on a computer you can do on the slate. There is no need for apps when you got an entire computer. That is why the computer you use at home has no apps.

I like the Ipad because its here now and real. The slate never showed up!
While the Slate has a Desktop/Laptop OS that also can be its downfall.
I have an HP TX2000 and it supports touch but single touch only.
Even with MultiTouch on Windows Devices including the Desktop/Laptop, your really only controling a mouse and directing the movment of the mouse instead of touching the window or icon in target.
You end up Calibrating most of the time or working really slow! IM GLAD I have the IPAD!

@Soccerboy801 It runs flash. Adobe teamed up directly with HP to make this thing awesome. It has H.264 encoded video acceleration, so the CPU load is less when watching internet videos. This takes the iPad and pulls a Daniel Tosh, hits it with a golf club.

How can you tell Ifans are programed?
A. If Mr. Jobs say I am announcing a new product, It runs perfectly, but it does not have a card reader, no usb ports, no professional software can be installed, it has no camera, it can support flash but we will not allow, It looks beautiful, the battery last long & it has an apple on the back.

The minds of Ifans: Sure I can do more with the slate or Win 7 tablet , Install software, run programs, have total freedom, with flash, USB ports,print directly on any local or network printer Skype with a webcam, get my photos through a cardreader, edit professional quality pics and vids, and soo much more.
But I like Ipads, "They're cuter, and thinner" I've got apps and games, thats all i need.

@mdtrue Apple products are stable. They have no viruses at the moment. When I recieved my Macbook Pro and similarly, Ipad, I downloaded just about every freeware and app to try them out. That would be impossible to do on a PC due to all the viruses. In this case, Apple is one that is less limiting because I am free to trying anything I like. Of course, as a whole, Apple is less versatile than the PC, but I know exactly where its limits lie. I weigh stability and security over versatility.

@MrSantaClaws1001 I am not anti-apple, I occasionally use Macs. I just have found no use for the Ipad in my line of work. When on location I shoot video & photos with the Canon t2i, I can pop the SD card in my tablet pc, view or edit on site. I can design graphics with photoshop.
If the ipad has any software or "apps" for producers, designers, photographers, web developers, please, please let me know.

@mdtrue: What's wrong with with you windows fans? Imagine trying to activate small windows controls with your finger. Imagine trying to use software designed around a two button mouse with your finger. The biggest advantage the iPad has over this is not just the number of apps but the fact that the apps and the UI of the device is "design" for touch.
I use windows 7 at work M-F 9-5pm at work but I'm not a "fanboy" so I don't believe that it is the appropriate type of OS for a touch based slate.

@aristotledude I don't have to imagine, I have now and in the past used tablet pcs, windows mobile pcs, pocket pcs and more, only until apple big button apps came along that Mac users and Ifans act as if human fingers are too big for small buttons.
My new windows 7 tablet pc has one finger operation and does it well.
Double Tap= double click
Tap and Hold = right click
Everything else should be self explanitory
Why is this complicated for Mac users who's mice has one button!

Fact: Children's toys and games use big buttons because kids have a hard time with little buttons (Big Letters in kids books, Big Pencils, Crayons, Markers etc.)

On my desktop I keep my icons small, however All windows platform icons have always been adjustable! As a software writer you should know better!

@mdtrue One reason it does not excite me that much is that it seems to be exactly what you said - Windows. That OS has a UI which is designed to be used with a mouse and keyboard, neither of which you have with the slate. This means using you finger to navigate menus and icons which are going to be tiny on the screen.
For all the flexibility, I think the usability might be compromised because the UI isn't designed to fit the form factor.

How fast is it? viruses? slow downs? glitches? Personally, i prefer reliability. any intelligent person will admit that the windows is more versatile and a more open ended product. In comparison, apple's hardware does a very limited amount of functions. But what it does do, it does it well. I like the feeling when i turn on my mac or my ipad and know what i will get and know that i will certainly get it. I used windows products for years before converting. it was very unpredictable.

Any one notice how similar it is to the iPad? The same black border around the screen, pinch to zoom, aluminum body. And I mean shit dude, HP's new line of laptops tried to copy the MacBook Pro with the same curves and having the border around it's screen and then they made the mouse pad flush with the body! @rajithaify No, the iPad is almost 8 months old. And the Slate was introduced a few days after the iPad. And even if the iPad came out after the Slate, then the Slate would still be copying the relative design of the iPhone and iPod touch. And further more, this does not even touch the fact that HP made a whole new line of laptops a few months back that almost mimic the design of the MacBook Pro and air line, which came out more than 2 years ago. Get your facts straight.

@fuzzynoob2 IOS is Mac OS x. The OS on iPod touch, iPhone and iPad is the same as what the Mac computers have. Apple just removed and rewrote some of it for improved battery life. And why would you want a slate with the same OS as a laptop? Thats redundant and stupid. Just buy a laptop. But the slate has been discontinued so I don't give a shit.

@eujeeves you're absolutely right that vista was way more resource heavy. 7 is still too demanding for these little tablets, though. the programs were running slow and the battery had a 5 hour life(with smaller programs.) they probably won't put android on them, although it is way better than webos, they will more likely put chrome os. we can dream, right. i love google

I have a G60 and it overheats like a bitch but I got it for $500. bang for buck apple will never win. all their products are directed at a demographic that like niche products and who really dont care about the specs, most would cite apple customer service, warranty etc as key selling points. that's fine. other than that there's nothing special about anything apple makes. Hehe swanson you're funny. First of all, it will beat out the iPad. The iPad sucks, if you know anything about it, it's just a big iPod Touch. The Windows OS can do whatever Microsoft wants it do, including multitasking, multitouch, touch screen.. i.e. everything the iPhone can do and more. The iPod Touch's OS is based off of Mac OS X, as this Slate's OS is based off of Windows 7. Flash doesn't suck. Please research more before you try to flame an obviously superior product then crappy iPads.

This "slate" will never beat out the iPad--good luck even trying! Going with Windows is going to be a fundamental flaw--Windows never has been, is not currently, and never will be able to take advantage of the multi-touch interface to its fullest because it is fundamentally designed for a mouse and keyboard. MS would be best to re-design a totally new operating system from the ground up, just like Apple did with iOS. Regarding Flash, I think Jobs and Apple know what they're doing, Flash sucks!

@dapigistalkin: it's because Apple invents things first and then everyone else copies the products...and we're not fanboys, we just love a good quality product that does what it's supposed to do, without crashing numerous times and getting viruses..something that hasn't been done before that other companies follow suit..I will test the hp slate if it ever comes out..but I wouldn't get one...

@dapigistalkin: Way to generalize and pull things out of air. I was on the XP beta and I write software for a living using .NET on windows platforms. I'm also a mac user, iPhone and iPad owner.
Prior to being a PC user for a number of years, I used Commodore Amiga computers for a number of years.
What platforms have you used? Windows and DOS?

As a software writer, what can YOU do productive on your Ipad. I am really curious, I have asked this question on a number of blogs for the past few days and the best answer I got was it plays great games, and it has multi-touch upto 11 fingers. (How is this useful? Please reply!)

What r u talking about. The ipad is pretty much a tablet computer. Records show IBM were the first who actually developed tablet computing. Not apple the little thieves. If you didnt notice mac os is pretty much a linux based os, marketing it as their own.

@windssoul: I always test out the new products that come out.the only problem is the fact that I've been doing what these "new" products are doing and I am thinking for myself..I'd rather have something straight out the box that works without having to download additional software from the HP, Dell, Compaq site and something that is reliable instead of windows 3 windows 2000 windows Vista..so forth and so forth and that's why I love apple products..the software and computers are designed by them

@windssoul: actually that doesn't interest me at all..I didn't say that it came preloaded with every app..nothing ever comes with everysingle thing, everyone smart enough knows that..and I never said that it never needs to be updated, everything gets updates sooner or later..but when I took every mac out it was up to date with everything...why do you think I like apple so much..cause I never had problems with them...

@SO9769 How the hell did they copy off of the ipad? This is Hp's own design and it dont say ignorant things like it will sell 2,000 in the first two months thats just straight up stupid. Also, it could easily beat the ipad because of the forward facing video camera with skype, it records hd video, and actually has adobe flash built in. Next time try to read and get information on stuff before you try to rag on it

@TheTechzorro The slate has a full os. Every thing you can do on a computer you can do on the slate. There is no need for apps when you got an entire computer. That is why the computer you use at home has no apps.
