i was born with this too plus was 3 months premature.I am now 21 yrs old and in nursing school.I havent had any serious complications.Knock on wood.My parents too were bombarded with nothing but negativity from the medical field regarding my medical condition, however none have been true.I successfully played all types of sports and eat all types of foods, which still amazes my mother to this day.I too dont have a REAL bellybutton, but instead a man-made one! Hope your daughter is doing well!

All I was born in 1976 and was one of the 1st cases recorded in Louisville Ky with Gastrioschisis. I'm now 33 years old. I had a complete abdominal reversal this is where the rib cage is turned inside out like a Tshirt. I wasn't at that time expected to make it at all. With steroids for growth assistance at a young age I went to doctors until I was 16 telling me nothing but the negatives. At 18 I was rejected from the military.....................................................continued below.
Keep your chin's up, be positive, being realistic is good but don't let them here about their complications too much. they will hear it enough in life. At 33 I'm healthier then any friend I had in high school, I have 3 children and the best wife a man could hope for, the only thing missing is a belly button. So tell your kids to play rough and live life. They can be anything they want to be. God Bless..... my prayers are with you all. ....................................Dan S.
My princes born with gastroschisis too, she spend 3 months at hospital, but, thank god, she's all right now, recentle, she was diagnostic with atipic autism, but i love her, she is the best of my life, and i know that God have a lot of plans with my little angel, God bless your little girl!!!
My son was born with this as well... they gave him less than a 2% chance of a normal life... he was born a little over a month and a half early.... spent a little over a month in the hospital. After a total of 5 surgeries i am happy to say that he is a perfectly healthy and happy little boy. He will be three in june 2010. He is a strong boy and fought through everything with more courage than i would have... congratulations and i hope the best for you and your family.
My son was born with Gastroschisis in July 2005 he is now 4, a very intelligent boy, playing rugby & looking forward to school, I named him in Caden ... which means "little fighter" & yes God has a plan for you special chosen one's .. blessings from Auckland, New Zealand.
@nunukapunu21 i do understand u all what ur saying about this i had my son in 98 and they said that he will not make it and do sparts ever but he showed them all off and i was young when i had him no 1 to talk to about his but he is my football player now since he is 12 so ty to IU from indiana
another gastro! people used to ask me if it was true that i didn't have a belly button, and when i said yes, they'd beg to see it. they kept asking why and i always said, "my guts were outside my body when i was born." i had the gastro repair, 2-stage bowel repair, and later on, a hernia repair right at the top of the scar already there. now i'm 16 years old, and its awesome to see that there are other people out there like me
my son was also born with gastroschesis on feb 5 2009. I had a csection. I still wonder what causes this but i do believe these babies are very strong and are fighters. My son made me a stronger person. He is now 1 just had his first birthday and i love talkin to others with the same experience. We are all truly blessed. I thank god and the doctors and nurses that were watching over my lil man. Alexandra, st louis missouri
LindsMandy.... i hope your niece gets her transplant! my daughter was born with the same thing and her intestines were also "dead" and she got a liver small bowel pancreas transplant in Oct '07 when she was 10 months old ...... shes now 3 years old and running around CrAzY as ever! i recently wrote the donor family and found out that her donor was a 2 1/2 yr old names Jacob. Thank God for him and his family! ..... Everything will be ok
My unborn Granddaughter Madison has gastroschisis, she is due on March 8, 2010. My daughter Samantha goes every 2 weeks for a ultrasound, the bowels are getting worse they are looping, so they might have to induce my daughter if it gets any worse. I have faith in this little girl and I know she will be fine, she's got to be. Thank you for all your stories. Dena Woods, Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada

I was born with gastro, and I was born in a little town in Iowa that couldn't help me and my mom out, so I had to be driven (by ambulance, in the middle of a blizzard!) to Des Monies where I got all stitched up. My mom wasn't allowed to see me for a week, because she was getting all her testing done. Two weeks later, I got to go home.
Now I'm 18 and living every part of my life, and loving all of it. My mom is my best friend, and shes one of the greatest, and strongest people I know!
