@caldbecksthatride You can buy dubbing with rubber legs in it, but to get the color you want (dubbing AND legs), chances are that you will have to mix it.
Man, That is truly amazing. Awesome job, keep it up! I'm sure I'm not only speaking for myself when I say, I'd love to see even more video's like this on some other of your patterns! Steller work on that fly bro.
I tie mine pretty similar except I use black wire instead of thread just to protect against fraying from fishy teeth, lead the under fly different and I also dont dub as thick. Our goldens around here probably just have different proportions and are a bit slimmer. Also ours arent quite so bright, more of a drabber color.
omfg, amazing pattern, hell of a fly! What streams in PA do you fish becuase i work with USA youth team at fishermans paradise and in state college on Fishing Creek. This fly seems large for trout though, have you ever spooked fish in slower water with it? Awesome pattern though and nice video.
@akruter Thanks. It's the only stonefly you need to slaughter trout. Last Summer a buddy and I hooked 20 trout from 18"-27" in one afternoon on this fly. And in Central Pa, that is unheard of.
This fly is a beauty...it's alot like the one I tie but a much, much better pattern ! Thank you for posting it . I'll be busy tonight tying up a few dozen of these !!!
Thanks man. I prefer the Tiemco curved nymph hooks (200R ???) in #4-#12. #6 and #10 consist of about 90% of the selection in my box. These two sizes best imitate the 1 and 2 year old stoneflies here in Central Pa.
Thanks. In my theory, the heavily dubbed thorax with fine, FINE rubber legs, helps give the illusion of movement from the stonefly's legs as it swims in the current after being dislodged from a rock or swimming towards shore. If anything else, it will give some translucency to the fly in relation to the gills under the thorax. ??? Who knows, but the fish love it. Never fished on anything less than 3x ;-) And usually tied with a tungsten bead for added weight in heavy current.
exellent looking fly .

Amazing golden stone you got there, nice job. One question, do you mix your own dubbing with the rubber legs? Or is a product I can buy somewhere?

Looks great but I wouldn't say it can be tied "easily." it would take me 2 hours to do that. lol

Thanks man. A 3.5mm tungsten bead at the front and a lightly dubbed thorax makes for a murderous anchor fly for czech nymphing.

Nice bug. I never saw them so fuzzy. It looks like something my cat hacked up. It would be a shame to lose this one on the bottom on the first cast.

Awesome looking stonefly. Seems a bit time consuming but well worth it. Where do you get that thin skin?

Most self respecting fly shops carry it. I recommend the Mottled Bustard and Mottled Yellow for the Golden/Brown Stoneflies.
