Very good - the character in the movie is "Stewpot". He was voiced over by Thurl Ravenscroft, who did sing Grinch song. He was also the original voice of Tony the Tiger. He sang in a number of old Disney cartoon movies, commercials and other activities
The man who sang that song for "The Grinch" was also the voice for Tony the Tiger -- Thurl Ravenscott. He was thrilled to sing for that animation, too. But I don't believe he was baritone like the young man in "Nothing Like a Dam." Bass, yes, but not baritone. :p
twister, yeah, Ray Walston really adds to the film, even from such a small role. Walston is a very strong actor. He gets cast in interesting supporting roles (I suppose because he doesn't have candy-box good looks), but he endures and people always remember his characters fondly. He's turned up as recently as in Star Trek: Voyager playing an on-going role as the head alien of species 8471 (when they posed as humans). You always notice him, and you never forget him.
Stew Pot (the low voice) is the same voice that was used for Tony the Tiger in the cereal commercials of the 1960s (for those of you old enough to remember those). I don't know if the voice belongs to the actor we see on screen, but it's definitely the same voice as was used for Tony the Tiger.
why is the audio and video so messed up

South Pacific is such a great show.
This was made in 1958. Most movies wouldn't have had a black guy in the chorus. It ties in with the later song "You've got to be Taught" ,

Also, I think most companies of white sailors wouldn't have had a black guy, either.
