  • Świetna robota !!!!!

    Good Job !!!!!

  • at 0:24 I kinda wanted to say: you know there's another pen next to your phone, right?

  • I would be speechless if making this comment didn't qualify as talking.

  • @tijuanamarisol666 dude that blew my mind

  • Alex you are very impressive and you have an awesome shop. keep up the good work!

  • Very nice work young man love it john.

  • Quick tip the joiner is for the narrow part and the planer is for the other side this will save material since in the vid you are basically planing twice

  • @TheEpicknives The jointer is to flatten a piece of wood. running a crooked piece of wood through a planer only replicates the curve on the opposite face.

  • youd probably make more money if you made less waste.

  • Good job!!!

  • pro

  • I WANT THAT PEN!!

  • wow! great job. Beautiful work.

  • Nice Job young man!

  • How exactly do you have all of this machinery??? Awesome though :D Wish I had a workshop in my basement... :/

  • What impresses me is that your milling your own stock. I started woodworking at 5 but I didn't touch a jointer until I was in my 30s.

Nicely done kid. You're making me look forward to the day I get to teach my kid how to do this..

    **golf clap**

  • If you sold all that machinery you would probably have enough money to go to college and not have to make lame pens all day

  • Very nicely done! Bravo!

  • i want one!!!

  • @ PensforCollege - If you have not already checked this guy's amazing work out, please take a few minutes to see his amazing work. His user name is Matthiaswandel. You could learn a thing or two from him. His life history will inspire you if you are not spoiled. His background is not one of privilage, not that yours is. With your attention to woodwoking detail & inspiration from him, you will benefit by checking his videos out. Good Luck & work hard to make America better. - He is Canadian.

  • Wow your dad has a nice shop and he has taught you well. I thought at first you were going to make a pencil, then I thought you may make a pen slinger to get the ink down into the pen. When you made the cuts on the band saw I was lost hand had no clue what the hell you were up to then it dawned on me just before the lathe you may be making a new pen. Sure nuff, it is a beautiful pen. If you are as good as it looks, you waste a lot but make beautiful results. Good luck in college.

  • how old is that kid? and who allow him to use power tools like saws and why didnt anyone tell him to use gloves when working with wood?

  • @Woot4Meh Yeah, kid his age should be on the street with skateboard and no protection.

  • @Woot4Meh

You don't usually wear gloves when using most of those tools. The glove itself can get caught in the machinery and rip the flesh right off your hand..

Bare handed, or fingerless gloves, is much better from a safety standpoint.

  • hey this is awesome, at this age doing such wonderful stuff, keep it up, great talen for sure

  • Very good talent there young man!

  • I've tried to copy your process, and I want to know how many of the top (short end) before you got it right???

Keep at it bud, well done.

  • Nice job Kiddo. You have alot of talent and seem passionate about what you do. It reflects in the pens! Keep it up. Your going to college for sure. With all that talent you can even start your own business.

    Cheers;)

  • @flowerbudz32 Dad's rock!

  • We should team up and make stuff together dude!

  • With such a workshop and such a talent you don't need to learn in any college... But it's really wonderful target to reach. I would like to Polish youth had such interest... Best regards from Poland, Greg

    P.S.

You have polish roots, don't you? :)

  • DID YOU EVER DARE TO PROVE YOUR SKILLS WITH THE MYSTERIOUS RISING DOVETAIL ? PUT AN EYE TO LEARN HOW-TO AT MY CHANNEL BY CLICKING ON MY NAME AND YOU´LL GET ROY UNDERHILL TO ENVY YOU ;D !!!

    THANKS EVERYBODY !!!

  • Hey I am new to pen turning and was wondering, i have a regular drill and the right drill bit, I am making a pen right now ( my first ) and I found the center of my blank but how do I make sure I drill accurately with a regular drill? By the way nice inlay it looks fantastic and I am a teenager too and it is nice to see other teens interested in woodturning and not just video games. Keep up the good work!!

  • YOU ARE AWESOME

  • Awesome job.

Do you know where i can find plans for the celtic knot blank?

  • @Suppergrassy

Try the Sept 2010 issue of Wood Magazine, issue 199. They have an article on making a Celtic knot

  • Beautiful pen.You are a wonderful, talented person. My husband and have I many hobbies, including woodworking , ceramics. I know it it's not just having good tools but mastering them which you have done. Congratulations on learning valuable skills, the ablility to stick to completing the process will serve you well in life.

  • wow that pen is very nice. I just might buy one from you. you are really good at it.

  • Do you use CA glue or do you use wood glue?

  • @MinotBob I use CA glue and 5 minute epoxy, no wood glue

  • By the way, if you need some extra cash towards your college fund, I understand you can make money off of YouTube. Making videos about your process as well as your fund could bring in some money should you find yourself still in need.

  • Impressive! That's not a common skill. Your gonna go far, kid.

  • Well done. If you need a pen make your own. lol

  • Very Nice I love the inlay

  • You learned the biggest lesson in life which is to learn to provide for yourself. Any skill you learn or are educated through life may come in handy but the ability to provide for yourself and the will to keep at it is the most important.

Good luck in life and keep working.

  • good job kid!

  • Nice pen, let your dad know he has a nice shop!

  • thats heaps good i want that pen!! oh and i wouldnt mind that workshop ether... great work keep it up!

  • Hi Nice pen you are good for your age, but what angle did you set the bandsaw table at?

  • @195867 I set the bandsaw to 45°

  • that is a crappy pen dude i make better pens and only sell them for 25 dollars not for 100 like ur site does and i spend my money on weed not college!

  • as a novice penturner i can appreciate the work you are doing and hope to someday become as good as you. lovely pen by the way, is that white oak by any chance Keep turning my friend and enjoy it.

  • Man your awesome!

  • outstanding work. Great Job

  • hey can someone leave a rreply on where he found the designe for the pattern

  • good job kid! for both the video and your pens, is really nice to see someone at that age well grounded to earth working hard for a goal

  • lucky kid. His father must be a craftsman of some sort with all these professional tools.

  • Hi PensforCollege

I have just been watching your video and I must admit it really is very good.

    I really enjoyed watching it.

Already looking forward to more of the same in the future.

    Cheers to your success.

  • Bravo! Excellent technique, and very nice shop. I'm glad a parent somewhere is teaching his child worthwhile things instead of just letting nanny TV teach all the life lessons.

I think I'll go check out your site, might as well do next years Christmas shopping early. haha

  • Great job! Thanks for the tutorial, I just saw somethings I can apply to my craftwork. I'm going to look over your site and I might buy a pen, I think it would be a great gift.

  • Tremendous. Very impressive.

  • Wish I had a $40,000 shop to make pens lol --

Nice video, and a nice design on the pen. Now I have to go out to my 25 degree garage and make some pens for xmas gifts -- Brrrrrr

  • You have some serious talent. Beautiful work. Keep it up 5*

  • cool vid and nice pen

  • sorry,what material is black????

  • You I could get like a pack of 10 pen blanks I bet I'm the youngest pen turner ever I'm 12 I need some pen blanks please let me buy some pen blanks thanks

  • @branjumba Many are available on eBay or Rockler or Woodcraft stores.

  • very cool ..well done...good sounds and creative...

  • That, my young friend, is freaking awesome! Keep up the excellent work. Makes me glad to see that woodworking is alive and well with young folks as well as us fogies.

  • @Podravka70: No, with all of those machines, not anyone can do it. The machines are just tools. Clearly, Alex has invested the time and learned how to use them to create valuable pens. If the shop was equipped with cheap Chinese machines sold by Harbor Freight, he still would have been able to turn out beautiful work because he'd have learned to use the tools he had.

  • Thank you

  • I'm 15 and i also turn pens to raise money, but WOW would it be easier if i had the tools he had, it would cut the work i do in half

  • how much for a pen like that, but black with a silver trim, and fountain tip???

  • Obviously, you have never done any woodworking. Maybe a bit jealous...eh? Awesome work Alex!!!!

  • to some extent i have to agree with podravka, he has every tool he needs right there at his disposal, im only a few years older than he is (15) and i also make pens that are very similar, but it takes me twice if not thrice the effort to make one, why? because i dont have every tool i could ever need right there in my garage.

  • eh?i am woodcarving for more than 2 years i know what i am talking about.

Doing NICE things only with knife and chisel is pretty hard doing it with those ultra machines must be pretty easy.

But thats just my opinion if you want do this ,,woodcarving,, in a dark workshop than go on.I prefer going outdoors and enjoy real carving.

  • HOLY MOLY

    WOW nice work !!

  • I'm impressed. You are talented.

  • Well done, brilliant video pity about the background noise

  • Nice job!

  • With the skills that go into your amazing pens you'll be able to make lots and have a good time, as well as make your money for college!

  • WOW! I have never seen that before. You work is great! Keep up the good wokr..

  • Celtic knot using aluminum?

  • Yes, I made a Celtic knot pen from big leaf maple burl with an aluminum and walnut laminated knot. I want to made a video on how I made it. alex

  • Did you turn it with normal turning technique and tooling?

  • Yes, I use a Sorby spindle master and a skew, but the tools must be very sharp and you have to use a light touch. With this pen the maple burl is very soft and the aluminum is much harder so it is easy to gouge the burl when cutting the aluminum.

  • Awsome pen and an outstanding vid. The best instructional vid I;ve seen yet.

  • great work ^^

  • PFC....that is one of the BEST instructional videos I've seen! Congrats on a job 'Well Done'!! Good luck with your project.

  • That was a cool vid. I so wish I had access to that equipment.

  • Thanks. I made the video for the PTA Reflections contest at school. The equipment belongs to my dad but the lathe is mine.

  • Awesome vid and good work on the Pen!!!

  • Thank you! My next video will be on a laminated Celtic knot using aluminum. I'll start on that one when I get out of school for the summer.

  • Excellent I just subscribed to your stream to make sure I don't miss it :)

  • Is that a Laguna band saw? What blade were you using?

  • The bandsaw is a Steel City 18" with a 3/4" Timberwolf blade

  • cool
