My parents are from UP in India which is where most of the trini/guyanese and other west indian east indians originate from. I understand the hindustani/bhojpuri sung in chutney songs because it is the same as my parents used to speak. Im in the UK and indians here are usually punjabi or gujarati and they speak different.

Thanks so much for asking this question. Yes, people of Indian race in Guyana are Indians. Indian is a race and Guyanese in this case would be your parents nationality if they were born there. It is sad that despite having Indian grandparents no one has told you about your roots, anyway now you know and you can tell others. I would like to think that most or all guyanese Indians are proud to be guyanese Indians and so should you be. Please keep asking questions.
