I realized today is International Holocaust Rememberance Day. As wonderful as it is that Anne Frank's spirit lives on thorugh this album and her journal, there's still so many lives that were destroyed in the maddness whose voices will never be heard.

The reception it gets is kind of counter-intuitive though because those "hipsters," "music junkies," or whatever you want to call them kind of make a mockery of the album. It's a good album, but I felt that there were albums released near the end of the decade that didn't get the praise that this album got.

One must view this album totally objectively. Forget that such a thing as "Indie" ever existed, and you (as I have) will fall into that cult of hipsters worshipping this album for it's shear majesty. This is coming from a guy whose roots in music derive from Robert Johnson, Led Zeppelin, and the like... far from Indie... this album is gold. Rivals Dylan, which says a lot.

This brought up my attention, so I listened to it, but I really don't understand all the thumbs about this. Now don't get me wrong, this album is pretty good, but nowhere near the 10/10 and the A+'s I see it get. Can someone explain this too me? Sounds like boring acoustic passages and cheesy Lo-Fi lyrics imo.

Lo-fi isn't for everyone I guess, the reason I like it is this very fuzzy but yet very clear sound, the warm bowed bass, the big and chunky acoustic guitar, the sparse but spastic drumming, the amazing horn arrangements, and the surrealist lyrics that are woven by Jeff's unique nasal but powerful voice. The thing I like most is how the lyrics, even with their obsurdity, are so vivid and imaginative. It's also really cohesive without being repetative, and has this very grand feel to it. I like it

@StaticBunnyStudios I think he's right, a lot of people acknowledge NMH as an important indie band, but sometimes its just them saying that to fit in with the rest of the indie rock folks. I don't think that's the sort of credit this album deserves, its exactly what Indie Rock should be, its willing to do anything to get its message across, look at how involved Mangum was throughout its development. This is a legendary album Anne Frankly people should appreciate it more. (That was a dirty joke)
