  • thats sad

  • the race was so close and so exciting that the losing and killed horse was pretty much ignored. Horses shoudl be older??? Or kill more horses...yuck.

  • i agree daidsondad. u 2 sotagirl1. poor eight belles.

  • Did Eight Belles go down after the race or during?

  • Right after she crossed the finish line, she came in second place. :(

  • After the finish line

  • Sick ending to the race after Eight Belles ran a great race to be second to a dominant Big Brown

  • I do think it's a little bit cruel, in that the horses are pushed so hard so young. It's like taking a 5 year old child and training him to run the 1000m cross country event by the time he's 8. I've seen too many deformities and fatalities that could've been prevented had the horse been a little older. I'll never start a horse younger than 3-4 years old, but then, maybe I'm crazy for actually letting their joints mature before putting a lot of stress on them.

  • i can hardly call a race "great" when a horse has to be euthanized..idk how every1 else feels..RIP Eight Belles

  • I am speechless and ashamed. Even ashamed at myself for ever loving the butterflies in my stomach and tears in my eyes as I watch them fly. Racing has been done around the world for centuries, many have died. They are so young in body and mind, we use them for our entertainment at every cost to them. We take until they have no more to give and throw them away. We have taught them to trust us, and they do...to the end. God help them all.

  • True, they are pushed hard at a yound age, but owners and trainers love their horses to death, like family. I can't imagine how hard it must've been for Eight Belles owners to make to decision to euthanize her.

  • I agree that horse racing is not abuse, especially at this level. It is a shame that PETA and many others are saying her death was animal cruelty. In my opinion it was a tragic and bizarre accident probably a result of the fatigue that came from running the race of her life. I hope that she can be remembered for her amazing talent and heart and not just her tragic death.

  • Everyone knows that what happened to Eight Belles was tragic....But I think that PETA collecting money as a Charity and then spending 95% of it on Salaries for its officers is criminal! Why not spend it on research for equine injuries instead??

  • It is ignorant to think that horse racing is abuse. Don't argue about something you know nothing about. It makes you look like a moron.

It is a tragedy about Eight Belles, but learn to face reality.

However, I hope that we have a Triple Crown winner this year! Hopefully Big Brown can get those final jewels!!!

  • Thats right! I personally can't believe people actually consider racing a cruel sport. We all know this sport is dangerous, but its natural for the horse. We also know tragities happen. Just becasue something bad happens don't mean its completely bad and should be done away with. I mean, people fall down stairs and break their arms and legs and they still continue to sit in our households. Horseracing is a great sport, so all you protesters (PETA) need to learn some facts and get a life!!!!!!!

  • Why do incidences like this bring out the morons like Vegan?

  • I dont know, but to me, when watching this replay, right after Big Brown takes the lead, i was watching Eight Belles really close and i could see her kind of bobble or hop and change gaits in a funny kind of stride just as shes coming out of the last turn. Anyone else else see this? I was when she turned her head that her gait changed for a few seconds.

  • I own a OTTB and when it's time to ride he's excited. Sometimes it's almost impossible to hold him back. I don't use a crop but sometimes will put it in his sight as a reminder to settle down/follow commands. Horses have such thick hides that the crop is an annoyance not painful. It's the sound they respond to. When you have 1,000lbs of excited animal you have to keep control, for your safety and theirs, if you scare/anger them they'll send you flying. It's about respecting each other. LOVE

  • I scorn humans who say that horses do not feel pain. It is a sense all mammals have.

  • Horses do will feel pain and will make sure know it when they do. Have you ever groomed one? They respond mostly to the sound.

  • Yet they get so irritated by little tiny flies on their bodies. I think that's proof they are sensitive enough. Anyways pain or no pain, this is still speciesist slavery. Non-humans are not our property.

  • So what you said was rubbish. There are strict rules about whipping in a finish to a race in Britain. These rules were made by very exprienced horse people. Oh and yes, I have groomed horses and ridden thoroughbreds.

  • horses love what they do. these animals are not tortured in any way.

  • They are kept in a stall for days & allowed no freedom.Wouldn"t you love to run if kept locked up in your bathroom all day?

  • What an ignorant statement. You seem to think it's all grassfields, flowers, and freedom. Well, it's people like you who continue to support such a terrible practice known as a "sport" and keep such beautiful animals under so much torture.

  • In the wake of three high profile equestrian sports deaths in two weeks PETA descended on the National Racing Commission in Lexington Kentucky. Immediately following the death of Eight Belles this week in the Kentucky Derby and the deaths of Frodo Baggins and Quiet Man last week during the Rolex Three Day Event, PETA organized a protest change in the industry.

Video of the protest from the Kentucky Horse Park posted on my Channel page.

  • Don't you think PETA needs to mind their own business? You can't even make a movie with animals in it without that club protesting against it! Their FULL of opinions and I'd LOVE to protest against them because I know all FACTS!

  • I don't think PETA expected the counter protest that the horse people of Kentucky put in my "PEAT" protest video. The horse people did a fine job of rebuttal. They protested to.... right along side PETA and AGAINST PETA. Hope you viewed it to see what a great job my community members here in Lexington did toward that national issue.

    Ping =^.^=

  • Ok I defiantly will view it! I just hope in the future that PETA can mind their own business though. And great job for us who were against PETA! I was in Lexington at this time, but was unable to make the trip to protest (my guardians on the trip would NEVER let me do anything like protesting). But go us who are for the racing industry!!!!!

  • You guys are sick and everybody that supports this "sport" and earns money from torturing animals, should be punished.Because of money you people are sick in many ways.

  • Horses are born to run... Argue about oil tankers killing seals and other marine life. Or deforestation destroying natural habitats for other types of species. These horses live better lives than most humans. Get a fucking clue

  • Dude...If you didnt run a horse it would die... it would get to fat...

  • DUH DRUGZ...DUM!!

  • It's always interesting that the first to aggressively run their mouths are the blissfully ignorant. Any equine neophyte knows that riding crops are for steering a horse. When you have an animal pumped full of adrenaline and wearing a hide six times thicker than your own, the crop is an afterthought. I can guarantee you if the crop bothered the horse, the jockey's ass would be on the ground quicker than he could get in another shot.

  • LadyTygry-The whip told her to go faster & faster & she died trying.Thoroughbreds are known to die trying & are said to "have alot of heart" for that reason.Shut the fuck up IODIOT!

  • Poor Eight. I heard that she had hurt ankles from the previous race. ( i dont know if that is true or not). If that is, why did the owner race her. It wasnt a very good idea! my Personal opinion is that horses should not be whipped to race. If they enjoyed it they would run for the love of it, not because of them being whipped.

  • hunterjumperchik-Right.If none were whipped then all would be have an equal chance of winning in the race.Whipping should be banned.

  • AMEN! more people should have views like this, maybe the sport wouldnt bee so cruel.

  • what about the euthanizing of people in africa, is that ok? you seem to care more about animals then people! I say all animal lovers should go live with the animals! Fuck you all!

  • Hey clevelandcrew your a fucking retard there are hundreds of animal sports that are unatural for animals and all your woried about is horse racing. GO GET A FUCKING LIFE!

  • I HATE THAT HE DIED HE WAS MY FAVORITE

  • it was a girl

  • why does everyone else think that SHE is a boy too

  • and killed, not died.... :(

  • damn, you woke up on the wrong side of the planet...eat more fiber and maybe your bowel would not be so irritable...or take a chill pill, or just change yourself into a different person other than the asshole you appear to be rather than hopefully you are not.

  • You recorded your television with a camcorder???!! Hey we have these things called VCRs and DVD recorders now. Try getting up to the 21st century!

  • LOOK UP

    GBAG101's

    NBA THEME ON FSN

  • I don't like this sport.

why did I watch this? wtf..

  • To get a much needed break from beating your meat? :/

  • Title for the video is irrelevant.

How can you guys complain about Big Brown's owners & the fans celebrating? They were celebrating before Eight Belles even FINISHED. You're expecting them to watch every horse all the way back to the trailer or what?

    An hour later....

"Okay, all 20 horses are safe, I guess we can celebrate our multi-million dollar win now."

Millions of people AND animals die every day. Should we refrain from ever being happy because someone is dying somewhere in the world?

  • nicely said.

  • She was put down before her owners knew so how was BB's supposed to know?. He had an amazing race and deserved to be celebrated just as she should be mourned.

  • absolutely

  • That's fucking horrible.

  • it was sickening the way that the owners of brown were shown CELEBRATING AS HAPPY AS CAN BE as there opponents horse was being put down

  • kd7mxi-I agree. The winnwers should not have celebrated as they did. Also, the owner"s wife wore a strapless cotton top,& when she hugged her son, her boob fell out & she had to tuck it back in which was very LOW_CLASS.

  • the people in the grandstand had their view obstructed; they really couldn't see Eight Belles collapse, nor did they know anything was amiss until the equine ambulance rolled in... then all fell silent I assure you.

  • looooooooool

  • And they're off. Here comes Eight Belles rounding the corner, will she be the first one to make it on to someones Barbeque.. YES, She did it. She's on to some buns with ketchup... well done Eight Belles.. You're mighty tasty...

  • I hope everyone enjoyed the fucking horse race. Too bad a beautiful animal had to die.

  • thanks! I loved the race, it was great!!!

  • fuck off

  • well i can see pretty much all of you people are fucking morons...

  • Fox250R-You are right. These people are fucking morons. If animals could talk, never in a million years, would they make comments like these.

  • How would you know what kind of comments an animal would make?

  • coldfreshwater dude please shut the fuck up the horse didnt fall right after the finish it ran a little bit more down the track then it fell they were fukin celebrating before the race was over because there horse was far ahead of the pack ur just jelous cause they won a shit load of money SHUT THE FUCK UP

  • Bobthagamer-No one knows at which point the ankles began to fracture(could have been in the beginning of the race or the middle). She broke down at the end, but that doesn"t mean the ankles started breaking in middle of race.

  • OK OCHSICM You are not the only person in the world that knows horses. YOU ACT LIKE YOU ARE PART HORSE - PART HUMAN!!How the hell do you know what a horse is thinking while getting whipped around a track? PUT A BUNCH OF HORSES TOGETHER AND I CAN PROMISE YOU THEY AINT GOING TO SET UP A FUCKING RACE TRACK.

You say no difference but there is a huge difference. You haven't had to euthonize your horse because you never beat it around a track mercilessly for money.

  • clevelandcrew how would you know what a horse was thinking? Oh that's right you're an animal lover, friend of peta, you're better than everybody else! I forgot, my bad! Just like all the other peta bitches you probably "love" animals more than people. poor hungry starving people out on the streets, but that's ok at least this useless horse i have is well fed and cared for that's all i care about! get a life!

  • Clevelandcrew-Anyone can observe horses and how they interact with each other. Also humans can interact with them and learn about them. You are so wrapped up in your animal rights groupthink that you can't even think logically for yourself.

  • Whipping is a neccessary part of racing, without it, can be dangerous. Racehorses sometimes get excited/distracted and start to veer one direction or the other. The whip is simply a reminder to keep their mind in the game. These horses are bred to run and love it. Have you ever sat on the back of a TB and try to hold them back...it's damn impossible sometimes? They simply run from the heart. TBs will naturally "race" eachother in a field...go watch and learn before you make ignorant remarks

  • TBhorsegirl-Go find RoperGirl & give her a big kiss.Evil bitches ought to hang together.

  • they may not build a track but they will race each other. I know, I have a stable. and until you sleep on a cot in your horse's stall so you can care for them you can't understand how commited we are to our horses or how much we love them.

  • All horses love to run, but I don't think they enjoy being forced to run. Poor Eight Belles.

  • If you knew horses, you would know that the whip is not forcing the horse, it is directing the horse. A horse expects you to tell it what to do next, when to run and when to stop. The whip doesn't hurt a horse. Just think about it. If someone was tapping you on the butt and you were the size of a horse, would that be force? To force a horse you would have to hit him as hard as another horse would hit him...hard enough to take his hide off. Then he would probably kick you back or bite you.

  • Thank goodness for smart people like you!

  • any educated horseman learns how to use a crop w/o hurting the horse. It's a training tool used to annoy them and make them focus but not to hurt to them.

  • She had a steroid heart attack, so they put her to sleep.

  • well.i dont think horse-racing is abusive really. i mean horses were meant to run.its sad how things can hppn but you hope for the best.horse racing has been around 4ever and things have hppnd that rnt the best but amazing things also come out of it.its an incredible sport to watch and get to see all the connections made btween horse-jockey-trainer-owner.i dont think they should change the kentucky derby rules or any of that because itd change the way a horse could win it or the triple crown.

  • True horse racing has been around for so long, however it is a dangerous sport for both rider and horse. The horses are often pushed to the limits and beyond, and die young. Seabiscuit though taken care of he died at the age of 14, young for an average horse. Horse racing is abusive and it is hard for the horses.

  • "Better"

  • You haters should shut the fuck up.

Racehorses get treated than most humans.

  • Sorry to say this sport will continue. I wish when they had all of the corruption and rip-off, they would have closed Saratoga and Belmont. It would have been a start. But it is a rich mans game, and Im sure Mafia has a hand in it. So it will always be around.

And what about that cow that had to keep pulling her top up so her fake boobs didnt fall out? Yea, Big Browns owners concubine, errr, I mean wife.

  • it was the saddest thing ever. RIP Eight Belles. she was such a beautiful horse and i was so sad when i found out what happened :(

  • well this happens a lot when you put a filly in a race with a bunch of colts. they race their hearts out until they don't have anything left. its a shame.

  • Why the fuck she was euthanized?

  • they said she couldnt be saved because her injury was soooo severe!!

  • She's the only one in many years to try the race. Let alone come in second.

  • They simply ran her to death. I am a horse-

person and I was heart-sick all weekend.

God bless her soul. After Barbaro and now

Eight Belles, I think it's time to rethink

    racing.

  • This stupid ass sport needs to be stopped. Somebody has to do something.

  • It dont matter if you race a horse or simply leave it in the pasture freak accidents happen a horse can break its leg just buy running around in the safety of its own pasture. So its not the racing sports fault its just a freak accident that can happen to any horse at anytime. It just unfortunate that it had to happen on National T.v and it being the Kentucky Derby.

  • Alicia dont give me this shit about its the same as running around in the pasture bullshit. I wish somebody could whip you around in a race you dont want to be in and then you hurt yourself. Then I would say well you couldve got hurt jogging around the neighborhood the same way. THE CHANCES OF GETTING INJURED ARE A LOT GREATER IN THIS FUCKED UP STUPID SPORT. WANT A SPORT? GO WATCH BASKETBALL OR BASEBALL OR TENNIS OR HOCKEY OR FOOTBALL WHERE THE THINGS PLAYING "WANT" TO PLAY!

  • Have you ever rode a horse? I have.

They want to be ridden. They want to run- correction- some of them love to run. When riding a horse even at a walk they trip often. I was riding the other day, the horse was just walking, she saw some other horses across the way and got distracted, and she tripped and went down on both front knees. They do it all the time.

  • clevelandcrew my last comment was to you also. As far as whipping the horse, if you saw how hard horses kick each other and take the hide off each other, you would realize that whipping them is nothing to them but a nudge to keep going. They wait for you to tell them what to do, they want you to direct them. Horses are like that. Maybe you should get to know one.

  • Ok from reading your fucking comments I like to say DONT YOU HAVE A LIFE? If you dont like the fucking sport then dont fucking watch it. I never said I approved of the fucking sport or anything about whiping horses. I just said it was a FREAK ACCIDENT and unfortunate! I think you have some issues you need to talk to your phyciatrist about!

  • My last comment went to cleveland crew!

  • As a fan and avid student of the study of horse racing, I beg to differ that this was a 'freak accident'. This is a very cut-throat business, with a lot of money at stake in every race. It's unusual for a filly of any age to break both front limbs at the same locations at the same time. I would not be surprised if it was found that her legs had been tampered with by a rival stable.

  • You're right about this being a cut-throat, rich business. However, I highly doubt anybody tampered with this filly's legs. She certainly wouldn't have run the race they way she had and there's top notch sercurity at Churchill Downs. She wasn't the one to beat...others like Big Brown and Pyro considered bigger threats than she was. Watch the footage of her fall, she simply takes a horrible mistep and that cause both front legs to break...this is a horrible, FREAK, accident and nothing else.

  • well if the jockey cared he wouldnt have listened to the owners, its still his fault

  • The worst part about this was the fact that it had to happen at the kentucky derby in order for people to really notice and care. It happens all the time. I have witnessed a horse that stumbled, flipped, and broke its two front legs. It was literally trying to run on stumps. I haven't been back to the track since.

  • ???

  • EIGHT BELLES WAS WHIPPED TO DEATH! If she had not been whipped so intensely by the jockey she would not have been pushed to the point of complete exhaustion and collapse and breaking her ankles. It's not the jockey's fault it's the owners who want to win at all costs and condone the whipping. If all the owners agreed that ALL jockies could NOT EVEN HAVE A WHIP during these races this kind of incident would become very rare and the best horse would still win AND it would be fair to the horses!

  • Everything you just said is bull shit.

  • hes actually a bit true!

  • im just saying that everyone is portraying all connections of these horses as evil.. and theyre not.

I guarantee that banning whipping would not prevent the breakdowns of horses.

    R.I.P.Eight Belles

  • Sorry, no. She broke down after the race. The jockey has no reason to whip after the race, and if he did, he's retarded and its all his fault.

Honestly, it looked like she was trying to switch leads in the front and -unfortunately- took a very, very wrong step.

  • meekerralph88 you are wrong that not having a whip would make these incidents very rare. Horses trip all the time as I mentioned in a previous post, even when just walking. Get to know horses before you start talking. The horse didn't fall from exhaustion. The horse is in good shape, she does this everyday. She tripped.

  • you are so retarded

  • uh to bad the horse didnt break the ankle when she was being whiped she broke it slowing down. the whiping had nothing to do with it

  • Go Big Brown and poor Eight Belles about her front ankles and RIP. Shoutout to osh lol! 15,500 views in 1 Day!

  • Filly is a female horse.

  • I don't get it, why is everybody like OMG for this? I didn't see anything, is it because that guy randomly won?

  • If Big Brown wasnt such a beast Eight Bells woulda won..She was Absolutly the next best...Big Brown is gonna win the triple crown in memory of a Great Philly and a great horse Eight Bells

  • agreed

    she was awesome

  • Why on earth would you EVER ride a YEARLING filly? A horse should NEVER EVER be ridden until it's at LEAST 3 years of age. The race industry disgusts me. RIP Eight Belles.

  • Actually, to race in the KY Derby, the horses have to be 3 years old.

  • RIP EightBelles

any horse who allows their backs without killing them should be considered a great horse. EightBelles, you were just that. You put your heart into racing to please your rider and you have please us watchers as well. you are amazing and we will remember you. Rest in peace darling.

  • i meant to say..any horse who allows a rider on their backs..

  • for some reason, i doubt horses watch youtube, or read...certainly not dead ones.

  • what a waist of such a beautiful animal. Track officals should make these races shorter of for older horses. It takes time for these kinds of injuries to manafest. She wasnt born with two broken legs so its safe to assue that those brakes were caused by hard training and even harder running. Its wrong to make horses suffer like this in the name of human entertainment. Poor, poor girl.

  • To run with the male horses like she did, I give her credit! R.I.P. Eight Belles! You went out in a blaze of glory! (In my heart, she's a champion!)

  • To me she's is the greatest filly ever

  • continuing from below.. he spent so much time trying to keep off that leg that it ended up hurting his other leg. and what happened w/ his other leg couldnt really be fixed, so they knew if they just let him go on that he would just get worse, and barbaro was already in a lot of pain to begin with. so they had to euthanasias him. so its not just because they dont care about the horses, they are actually looking out for the best for these horses.

  • ok for those who say "aww im boycotting this sport" go ahead its whatever you want to think,it is sad it really is when something like this happens i hate to see that happen. but what you dont understand is why they put horses to sleep when something like that happens. horses depend on their legs 24/7 they rarely lay down. so when something like this happens they are in soo much pain. like what happened w/ barbaro they did a sergury and it fixed him. but he spent so much time trying to keep off

  • actually they are, pumped full of drugs, bred not to prevent this thing at all.

  • im not saying that its goood that these horses are dying because i love horses, but its not like the sport is trying to do it.

    R.I.P. Eight Belles

i cant believe shes gone.... =[[[[[[

  • i dont see where eight belles falls...if she does

  • R.I.P eight belles you will be missed

  • this is awesome

  • bananabagel1234 ur a disgusting fag!! what the hell is wrong with you?!?!?!? if you take pleasure in watching animals get hurt and then put down.. i would love nothing more then to watch u get trampled face up in the back strech then shoved off of a fucking cliff!!! u bastard!

  • maybe he was talking about the race...

  • well then maybe he should have specified! Eight Belles is the talk of this race unfortunatly, so when someone says its awesome, it can easily be implied to Eight Belles death!

  • wow sad morons with no life!

poor horses. they are raced at such a young age then they break a bone and people think that they are no more use to anyone sot they destroy it on the spot!! that is not right!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! why the hell are people so stupid!!!!!

    R.I.P Eight Belles

  • yay big brown!

  • losers off to the glue factory

  • not cool man

  • your right glue has to be cooked at a high temp.

  • LOL I bet alexosh1234 gave us all the -1's. ahahaha

  • no i didnt

  • Sure

  • "PLEASE SUBSCRIBE" Why are you so desperate for subscribers?

  • What is the point? Does it make a person important somehow?

  • idk

  • idk? what does that mean? I was agreeing with you, FireGirlG.

  • "I don't know" I was agreeing with you too.

  • Ah! I see, but it is better to write so that all can understand what you intend to convey. Such code is only good for someone who already understands.

  • My bad. I thought most people knew that one. lol

  • the more subscribers the better sry!

  • this video wasn't even that great.

  • Nope. I've burned out on taping the actual TV, in terms of watching it on YouTube anyway. I recorded it from the TV onto a digital video camera. So I never had to tape the TV directy.

  • Oh Man thats sad and No i dont wana subscribe. You just posted a video and something bad happend in it. you loser

  • Poor eight bells :( i feel bad for the owner, its weird how the horse just fell imediatly

  • yeah its pretty sad! Please subscribe

  • You're so lame.

  • I don't feel bad for the "owner". I hope he feels like shit for exploiting and enslaving an animal like this. Horse racing is disgusting.

  • then stop watching

  • I'm not an infant. I know that when I don't see something, it still exists. It's not disgusting because I don't like seeing it, it's disgusting because of the suffering of the victims. Hiding from it and being ignorant about it only betrays the victims, it doesn't help! Are you that dense?

  • So what do you want, all association between animals and humans to stop? Or do you want any association to be on your terms only? I am a vegetarian-wannabe-vegan and have strong views about animals and what they actually are. How we associate with them is a difficult challenge.

  • All EXPLOITATION of animals to stop. We can still care about them, watch them, and care for them when their help is needed. Do you need to capture your human friends and hold them as property and breed them in order to care about them? Or can you be friends while respecting their rights and without owning them?

  • that was my mom talking

  • what do u mean that was ur mom talking???

  • Go!Big Brown for the win!

  • poor eight belles

  • yeah its sad. please subscribe
