  • Ah. Makes me wish I was born back in the day so I could grow up with this stuff... rather than this modern age with it's crappy remakes...

  • Really well done.

  • obviously you used a consumer pc(companies always have more advance tech than the public obviously, even in today's world, but there is a few things i can't mention here)anyway,i know its a fan made thing & thats ok,we all have our favorite shows, movies, etc(the 2009 movie was great too & i can't wait for its sequel.)

  • cool video,thx

  • This is really cool. I've only watched the first 4 minutes but I particularly like how you got the screen display as Kirk walks in front of it.

  • THis is GooooooD!

  • The only thing I would change in them would be longer bursts or some longer bursts mixed in! And maybe slow down the enterprise when it's going through the debris field. Either way I love the show so I had to dig out mine so I could finish the episode!

    GOOD JOB!

  • Holy S%*T! I really hate change but I did like the enhanced version I watched a few years back but this is AMAZING!!!! Before whining about it people need to know there will always be the original versions which I will keep and continue to watch over and over. But this....If they don't have you do all of them then they are RETARDS! That was a bad ASS DOOMSDAY MACHINE!!! I would have liked to see how you would have blown it up when Kirk went into it! I also liked the phaser test videos as well.

  • Loved it !!! thx cool work !!!

  • Please finish this one, Prof!! :)

  • Awesome job, when are you going to finish the other 4 parts?

  • why do people watch this

  • The CGI here is very good, on a par with Remastered. My one nit-pick would be in the new effects matching up with existing dialogue. If the Connie were as badly mangled as the new effects suggest, Scotty would have had something to say about that. I speak of such things as the big bites taken out of the saucer section. But finally, the damage to the Connie's bridge matches the episode dialogue.

  • meh better cgi than original but i still preferr the original one

  • I preferred the old visuals.

  • I hear this little dog barking.

  • EXCELLANT SFX sequences!!!!! BETTER than the original!!!!!!

  • keep it it!

  • "She may have been wrecked by whatever destroyed the solar system". Great logic Mr Spock !

  • @MrJuno6 That's probably why the junior officers call him Commander Obvious behind his back. And well out of range of his Vulcan ears ;)

  • GREAT job, professor! Beautiful renders of the Enterprise. Well chosen and executed "liberties" taken with ship movement and "camera". I especially liked how, instead of cutting away from the Constellation TO the Enterprise at 4:25 like the original, you stayed on the Constellation and had the Enterprise move into frame on its approach course. Excellent!

I think CBS did a great job with the remastering...but I wish they were yet a little more adventurous in their creating new angles etc.

  • "There`s life Jim but not as we know it"

  • Nice one!

  • I thought you recently went down a waterfall with Holmes? : ) Anyway, excellent work!

  • watching this side by side to the new star trek is so cool

  • This feels to much like I'm going from real-live shots of actors to animation. Even to Original looked more real as archaic as they look compared to todays CGI. As good as the new shots look...they still look too animated. Like a video game looks today.

  • Well although it is refreshing to see peoples ideas on how a segment from TOS should've been shot, it still looks to animated for my tastes. It's more like the cartoon from the 70s then a 'real' shot of the Enterprise in space.

  • Huh! I was alway more of an Excelsior/EnterPrise-B kinda guy, but after seeing your reboot, I've gotta take another look. This is great. Thanks for posting!

  • shes better than uhura, why dint they keep her instead?

  • This is breathtaking. Good job !

  • 6:08 lol it sounded like Kirk said "spoons, come with me"

  • the enhanced effects are sweet!

  • Watch closely... scattered throughout this entire series, look at the MAKEUP of the crew. People of all races, colors, genders and creeds in positions of responsibility.

This was one of Roddenberry's prime beliefs, and one thing that makes the series so enduring

  • Outstanding work!

  • The ONE thing that all the cgi can't improve on are those smokin' Star Trek babes from the 1960's and their miniskirt uniforms! The original Star Trek is still the Gold Standard in so many ways.

  • @InfiniteMushroom if you ever watch the episode on the planet that went nazi [ john gill violated the prime directive ] the nazi headquarters building is the writers building at paramount thats where the producers "auditioned " actresses

  • 4:55 Spock sez the bridge is destroyed but the bubble on top looks intact and sez the rest of the ship can sustain life but ther e is a big chunk burned out of the decks below the air could escape 4:14

  • @spacepatrolman this is one of the best episodes this and the giant virus in space and where no man has gone before

  • @spacepatrolman What episode was it that had the giant virus in space?

  • @Chris9183 I think its called the immunity syndrome [ the way they describe the plot in some of these websites is vauge ]

  • @Chris9183 It was not a 'virus' but essentially, a giant cell. And as spacepatrolman says, it was called "The Immunity Syndrome". There was also an episode of the animated series called "One of Our Planets Is Missing". Both were quite good.

  • @spacepatrolman Airtight doors and bulkheads keep the air inside. The bridge bubble could be intact but, intense vibration could have ruined everything inside.

  • @InfiniteMushroom 1:55 '" matt decker is in command" but all the decks are destroyed so his name is a metaphor

  • cbs should hire you to redo the episodes!

  • Loved it - kicks ass for the best!

  • 4:15 -- Now that is what I call an attacked starship.

    Great effort here.

  • amazing, just amazing

  • Holy shit this is great!

  • WOW!!!!

  • Holy Crap ! This is Great !

  • You are doing some awesome work here. I agree with others who say this is better, Much Better than Paramount did on their remastered episodes. Your doomsday machine design is fantastic, as well as the ships. WOW!!!

  • You are good this is as good if not better than what paramount actually did!

  • nice job !!!

  • Go Captain Kirk!

  • Incredible skill

  • I LOVE THIS EPISODE CLASSIC THANK YOU VERY MUCH. JAMES

  • Wow!! Amazing. Its almost like watching it for the first time. Kudos !! Great job!!

  • The true story of the green tunic is that it's the original color of command division. The material that was used in the standard command tunics reflected light differently than that used in the wrap around tunics and the dress uniforms and no amount of color correction could fix it. That's why they appear gold and Kirk's casual tunic is green.

  • Well done sir.

  • Outstanding CG results. Too bad there was nothing like this back when the original series was made. It might not have gone off the air, and we would have many YEARS of material beyond the pitiful 76 episodes before cancellation. Well done!

  • Scott, I agree with some of your other watchers, Your presentation is AWESOME and WAY better than the remastered videos. Paramount needs you!

  • Fantastic! They need to hire you my friend!

  • Extraordinary!!!

  • damn! this looks a million times better than the official remastered ones!

  • I like this re-mastered version better than the official one by a mile

  • Wow this is amazing. It's way better than the official release. This guy should get a job with Paramount.

  • Wow, very impressive. Great work on the effects. Many of the shots you did I thought were much better than the official remastering job.

  • @alucard624 The remastered episodes just replaced shitty model shots with shitty CG shots. I thought it was pointless.

  • Very nice work!

  • Absolute perfection. A faithful labor of love. I'm speechless!

  • 10/10 ! Outstanding work!

  • i think you did a great job, it look so awsome IMO

I have done things like this (remake of my favorite shows) but never shared them, was not sure how to do the copyrights... so my question is, have any one given you any issue, with the way you phased it?

any way great work totaly kicked ass!

  • You know, Scotty is one hell of a man. Anyone who can wear a red shirt on this show and not get killed must be a bad-ass.

  • you seriously need to do more episodes. Youre version FAR outstrips the "Official" remastering...

  • Great reimagining. looks so much better than the original.

  • this is cool i like the fx its dark and a little spooky great job.

  • CONGRATULATIONS Sir!!! You did an excellent job. I have enjoyed your labor of love. You are a talented individual. I like your version more than the official restored version.

  • OUTSTANDING JOB!

  • Excellent work on the FX. Hollywood should be calling you! Have you worked on some of the other episodes of the original?

  • Excellent work on the FX. Hollywood should be calling you!

  • Yours >>>>>>>>>> Theirs. Good job!

  • Love the way the music switches when enterprise comes into view at 4:25

  • God! Great job man!!

  • This was the first star trek ep I ever watched, way back in 2003.

  • Can you tell me where to get the music whenever we see the constelation

  • @berboma They released several soundtrack CD's a number of years ago. I think music from "The Doomsday Machine" was among them. Try Amazon, I-Tunes and the usual sources.

  • @jtkirkfan2002 Thanks alot! By the way effects were amazing!

  • Dude, this is fully professional work! Way to Go!!!!!

  • Notice how Kirk Tells Spock specifically "You're in command." I see this as a setup for the later confrontation with Decker.

  • Pretty good.Hope u don't get sued.

  • you did a good job on this... i think the green was to hide kirk's gerttle

  • This is just plain "PRETTY"!!! Much better that the Remastered episode! Why didn't they just get your copy? Oh, cuz it would have made the rest of their redo's look like shit and they would've had to step up their game.

Beautiful work =D You IZ d MASTER of REMASTER!

  • music is beautiful and the effects are brilliant!

  • 6 people were on those planets.

  • Nice job!!! Beautifully done!!!

  • Nice job!!!

  • Always liked this episode from the original airing. Spinrad would probably have a cow but it reminds me of Saberhagen's Berserkers.

  • diffrent uniform styles for diffrent times..

  • I can't take my eye off this beautiful Enterprise! Thank you for picking this episode to work on; it's my favorite episode in the entire franchise. Please remaster Balance of Terror

  • AWSOME

  • Fantastic! However your depiction of the Constellation floating in an asteroid field with no shields raises the question of why it wasn't pulverized before the Enterprise found it.

  • This is an excellent effort, and most certainly worth preserving for future generations.

The official remasters are still excellent works in their own right, but its nice to see a single artist take it one step further and deliver a "what if we pulled out all the stops?" effort.

  • It's a sad day for CBS when they pay FX people to re-imagine the graphics of a 60s TV series and the fans of that same science fiction series do it better as a hobby!

  • Yours is way better than the official remastered version. Too bad you couldn't "reimagine" shorter mini skirts on the female crew.

  • I'm impressed. I prefer elements in yours over the Remastered version. I particularly like the nebulous star field in the destroyed solar system. I also noticed you had the same elements elsewhere. I also prefer your opening credits. The Remastered version seems true to the original credit sequence, i.e. the ship's angle of approach - but I always thought it looked wrong. Like it comes at us a little sideways. Well done & thanks for posting. Looking forward to seeing the DD Machine itself...

  • That was a fantastic job!!! I am blown away. Thank you.

  • I am 15 right now an I LOVE Star Trek so thanks for putting this up on youtube

  • @thesportslover67 I'm 17 and I just got into the series. Thank god the Space channel is still playing episodes from all of the series and in order every weekday.

  • The work you did is awesome.

  • The Shat started wearing green as he was gaining weight, and needed new regular shirts. Hides a girdle real well don't ya think. Honestly that reason might better rest with The family of William Ware Thiess or possibly James Cawley over at Phase II.

  • You said in your description: "...buy the Blu-Ray season box sets (of the official remastered episodes). They are totally awesome!" Wrong - YOUR version is the one that's awesome! The scenes of the Constellation are incredible, particularly the Constellation / Enterprise sequence at the point where the episode title appears. You did a truly incredible job, and I'm only sorry I don't work for CBS, or else I'd hire you in a second! Phenomenal and fantastic work!!

  • I think Shatner wore the green shirt when he was putting on weight. By the way, since when is Doomsday Machine the most beloved Trek episode?

  • @RovingCounter One of the most popular ones, for certain. My personal Top Five are (in no particular order) "The Trouble with Tribbles", "Balance of Terror", "The Doomsday Machine", "City on the Edge of Forever", and "The Ultimate Computer."

  • A really wonderful job! I particularlly liked the transition after the credits from Constellation to Enterprise--very inspired and it matched the music perfectly, which isn't always the case in the official remastered version. Hope you finish the project!

  • This has got me to wondering if there'd be any interest in reimaging the entire series for the retail market...

  • Can someone tell me why he started to wear green ?

    Anyone?

  • @shurednichso It's slimming? *shrugs*

  • @PrfMoriarty

Haha, yea i just googled it and there isnt rly an answer to this .

By the way, i appreciate, that you uploaded it. Thank you ,mate.

  • @shurednichso The story I heard was that during the off season, Shatner stayed in shape, but during the shooting season, he gained, er, tonnage. The wrap-around was an attempt to hide his weight gain.

  • @cabbievonbump

    Haha :D

Yea well, so green makes u look thin ? :D

  • @shurednichso no idea

  • @shurednichso Late Season 2, Cause he needed a girdle and the gold shirt wouldnt hide it. The green shirt has the strap to hide it.

  • @shurednichso Added variety from the typical command gold and further distinguishes him from the rest of the crew.

  • @shurednichso Possibly reserved for the Captain, to distinguish him from red, blue and gold crewmembers?

  • @shurednichso It's actually supposed to be gold but because of lighting and 60's camera effects, it reads on your screen as green

  • @shurednichso Just a guess but I think a different style uniform was required for the episode "Enemy Within". The two kirks would have been confusing with the same style uniform. I did read that the tunic was intended to be gold but was thrown in the wash with another color uniform and turned green. Don't remember the source.

  • @shurednichso It's his casual uniform.

  • @shurednichso ......Believe it or not,the "Gold"tunic we would normally see was a "Greenish-Gold"The stock film ,lighting conditions back then made it look Gold. That's why the formal tunic is green, the wrap-around variant is green and the regular duty tunic was green-gold......Hope that helps.

  • @shurednichso

This episode follows directly (in air date) from s2 ep5 "The Apple" and "Mirror Mirror" in which he was wearing the ambassador dress as part of his meeting with the inhabitants of those planets - the mining of dilithium crrystals in Mirror Mirror, and in The Apple - along the same lines to greet the inhabitants.

  • @shurednichso So like it's the "I've just got back" look, and stuff's already happening - no rest for Kirk! lol

  • @shurednichso I think of it as the "casusal" version of the uniform. You know how in the next generation counselor troi wears that one piece uniform? Well this is that era's version of the captain's uniform. I guess you could also compare it to Capt Picard's casual appearance of red jacket and grey uniform underneath. Just what I think.

  • When this episode was originally made, they needed another star-ship mock-up so they went to a hobby store and bought an "Enterprise" that they put different decals on.

Much of the damage was affected by cigarette smoke and burns!!

  • You did a great job on "The Doomsday Machine" which is generally considered to be the most beloved Star Trek episode; the special effects you did are FANTASTIC!

Not only are they done well technically, they're also done very, very tastefully; they really do help further the story along rather than just being there for a "whiz-bang" effect.

  • I like when that tall, brunette beach bunny walks by at 1:40; she must've been like 19-20 years old at the time!!

How old is she now; over 60 I would suppose.

  • IMPRESSIVE! WELL DONE! I HOPE CBS SEEN THIS AND CALLED YOU TO DO THE REST OF THE SERIES! OUTSTANDING!!!

  • Cool! A tuned version!! :D

  • Amazing! I'm usually against new fx in old movies/series', but this is how CBS should have done it! Your fx are absolutely fantastic, I think they should hire you to replace those horrible new fx that are on the BluRays!

  • Jaw drops....

  • And you can rival anything they force feed us from Hollywood! Well done!

  • Outstanding.

  • Well done. You're an artist.

  • Impressive.

  • Should work together with JJ's StarTrek make things intresting.

  • wow.not bad.constellation"s been trashed...looks like what happened to starfleet @ wolf 359.(I'm sooo geeking out here..lol) very well done. know that there are three parts to this,is there more of this enhanced episode anywhere?

  • NICE

  • It's really good man. Better than what the dudes did on CBS.

  • Amazing :)

  • Yes definately better than the CBS version

  • This is superlative work ! May we look forward to more ?

  • Love it !

  • My favorite episode of all. Thank you for this.

  • Why is kirk's shirt greenish-yellow? It's not a very flattering color.

  • Stunning work - done with a genuine feel for the source material - doesn't just uopdate the visuals but really adds to the episode.

  • love that shot from 3:07 - 3:11. Awesome!

  • WOW.. This looks great. Much better then I remember.

  • Those behind teh CBS digital effects could learn a thing or two from you... Your work is by far superior in every way. You have a grasp not only of digital animation but of the dramatic context that sells these effects.

  • Amazing job! Makes the experience feel very different from the way it looked to me as I guess i've watched this episode a hundred times in the last 35 years....

  • Beautiful! I was especially struck by the shot of the Enterprise flying through the asteroidal debris of the destroyed solar system (about 01:31 - 01:36, with the debris transiting the wonderfully rendered sun) and the planetary flybys during opening credits (about 03:30 - 03:40, particularly the last bit). But it is ALL beautiful. Excellent work.

  • There is way too much backlighting on the Enterprise, as details that should be in deep shadow are a little too clearly visible. Harsher deeper shadowing would definitely help the reality, making the ships more distinct and realistic.

  • AWSOME!!!!!

  • how did you do it?

  • thanks for the upload

  • can you kill the water mark notes at the bottom?

  • dude, noticed you liked visual effects videos and i thought you would also like mine.

    hope you sub

    zach

  • PLEASE keep this up. I really like what you're doing with the FX. (Gotta love that shot of the Enterprise flying right at us in the title sequence!) I'd ask you if you wanted to go all-out and animate the ship's monitors, but that's kinda a lot of work for someone doing this solely because he loves the series.

  • One of my all time favorite episodes, William windom does an excellent job of acting. Interesting to read that Windom was never a fan of the show and says the doomday machine seemed kind of silly and he acted as if he were in a cartoon.

  • Excellent work, better than CBS Digital. I give you a 9 out of 10. Why not a 10 you may ask? Too many asteroids, especially when the Enterprise is being chased by the Doomsday Machine - this makes the screen look cluttered and busy, beyond what would be optimal. Cut the number by about half and it would have been perfect.
