  • His voice is always so good live.

  • Makes you wonder why the song was not a massive hit in the states... or why it doesn't get played on Aussie radio that much any more? :(

  • The backing band gave the song so much justice! And the vocal harmonies. I'm glad Neil allowed everyone to get in on the fun

  • Paul Schaeffer s such an ass clown.

  • The single finest voice in pop rock history.

  • Man this is completely kick ass, the very best performance a crowd anywhere could ask for, they gave they`re all on this tune and it came across right. I always been a big crowded house fan since the early 90`s. Neil Finn is a songwriting genius and the band should have been far bigger in the states then they became. I`m one american who has all there cd`s and still a big fan.

    Long Live Crowded House!

  • A fantastic version with an energy that vwas lacking in the recording. Brilliant.

  • This is the first time they played after Paul left the band... as you can see... Neil is a bit down in spirits. They headed to Toronto right after where they played with a replacement drummer - great show still - with Nick teaching him the songs as they went.

  • my two favourite bands, which are crowded house and a-ha, are both underrated in America, and i think both bands definately deserve more recognition !!.

  • @Bethfromwigan Aha? hahahaha sorry but........hahahaha.

  • That is possibly the best version of Locked Out I ever, ever, ever heard. Wow. Thanks for sharing this gem.

  • Where's Hessy???

  • I think this is the best version I've heard, I never thought the album version did this song justice :)

  • @templeb0y i prefer this version as well, actually.

  • "we're on in Australia now! you excited about that?". OY Letterman got it all wrong there. he greeted American guitarist from Fort Scott, Kansas Mark Hart with that line, then shook hands with a New Zealander!! again, OY!! big faux pax, imnsho! yes, Nick Seymour is Australian, but Dave didn't really address him at all. kind of rude on Dave's part, if ya ask me.

awesome performance, though. one of my favorite live!!

  • This is so fucking brilliant! Thank you so much. I love it when Neil Finn goes a little Neil Young with his guitar playing :-) He's a very underrated guitar player.

  • Crowded House was a totally under-rated band in the U.S. just shows what U.S. kids will listen to... ugh! but i'm old school, so what do i know? lol this song is incredible, and on my Ipod (did i just admit that i have one?? OY) i love Neil Finn's music, and all of Crowded House, and even Tim Finn's Split Enz. i can't get enough of those NZ and Aussie blokes!

  • Neil has got the most beautiful eyes, but most especially at 2:01!!

  • @ramadarose41 Oooh doesn't he! There's a moment in the 'Something so strong' video were his eyes look so amazing!

  • anyone know what Neil's ad lib(?) lyrics are at the end?? i think he sings them on the studio version as well but i cannot for the life of me decipher them, and there are no lyrics sites that have them available.

  • Where the hell is Paul ?

  • this is from 1994, so i'm assuming he'd already left the band back in Georgia.

  • Great voice, fantastic song and Neil is soooo beautiful with that lovely Beatle haircut

  • Neil has always been beautiful, and to respond to your comment about his haircut... thank goodness he's still got that callick! LOL that callick, and his missing tooth (which must have been replaced early on), were always the sexiest things about him... as well as his beautiful eyes!! this is a great song and CH has been sorely under-appreciated in the USA. love you, Crowded House!!

  • Yes they have been under appreciated in the US- a tragedy since their music is SO FREAKING WONDERFUL!!!! I didn't know Neil had a missing tooth- ha! Just like Paul McCartney. He had a chipped tooth when he was a young Beatle. To me Neil looks a lot like Beatle Paul in this clip.

  • "so freaking wonderful" is what i say too! and yes, his haircut is so Beatle-esqe, especially when covering his eyes! regarding the missing tooth, do a search on youtube for "Split Enz I Get Frightened live on Fridays" at 1:24, you'll see that sweet sexy gap in his smile! LOL

  • Ramadarose do you know about

ChizelMonkee? ChizelMonkee's channel is chock full of New Zealand goodness! Tons of lovely Finn footage! Check it out!

  • absofreakinlutely i know of ChizelMonkee's channel! so many FANTASTIC live CH videos there, and lots of Finn eye candy! haha ;-) there is only one video that i cannot seem to locate anywhere (and i'm fairly sure i didn't dream it up) of a Split Enz gig on a 1979 or '80 episode of Solid Gold performing "I Get Frightened", the first time i ever saw Neil Finn. 11 y.o. and i just fell head over heels! LOL

  • weird, my husband was driving home from work today and a radio station he was listening to played "Something So Strong". He couldn't remember what song was played (until i started singing the one he remembered) but said that the singer sounded a bit like John Lennon. When I played it later, I was amazed that Neil actually does sound like Lennon on that studio recording! Wow!! CH never ceases to amaze me! Hilarious cuz Neil kinda resembles Paul McCartney nowadays. :-)

  • Backed by Paul Schaeffer and the CBS Orchestra, too - nice!!

  • This song kicks ass! Neil is adorable at 2:04
