Insurance companies are in business for profit. If there were less government agencies oversight a local doctor could trade office visits for fresh produce, cows, silver, etc. Currently if your Dr writes off your HMO co-pay, he could be fined. National Health Care is not a benefit in the Constitution. We need to figure out a better way to help people to live healthier lives but not police them.

Be prepared, Ron Paul's policies to rid the Fed Reserve are admirable. His policies are purely market driven though, kinda like putting a bull in a china shop. Any social programs such as social security or unemployment benefits would suffer. However, the rich will get richer, why not? The rich can always use more money.
Tell that to people that are on social security that worked minimum wage making others rich and didn't offer their workers any pension. Social security isn't what is breaking the government budget, mismanagement, and corruption within caused by special interest is.
Hopefully you'll be old, broke & sick with no health insurance if gov't support is out. They didn't have Walmarts back when they made the constitution, what happened to Mom & Pops corner store? I'm sure that's what the founding fathers had in mind when they made up the contitution. That you would be competing with your neighbor, not some sweat shop in China.
Would they do it if the employee has a pre existing condition that was no fault of their own therefor not "profitable" for the business to offer care? What is the gaurantee that business just won't get the cheapest coverage just to qualify for the deductable? Why should there be a bunch of middle men (businesses & insurance companies) that get their cut and the only ones that get cheated is the patient and the taxpayer, because deductibles are like a bailout to a company from the taxpayer.
Well if all health care payments were tax deductable, businesses would no doubt seek out the best health care, since the cost they would be paying would be reimbursed through taxes.

If I understand correctly, it's ok to screw the taxpayer so long as business gets a cut. However people scream bloody murder on big government. When government comes in and trys to reduce cost by cutting some gouging insurance companies (who really don't supply anything other than take cheques in and sign cheques out and take a 30% cut for this service). Insurance industry is a big cash cow that needs to die. It's a big parasite that needs to be treated by being cut out.
No, it's not ok to screw the taxpayer. No one here supports Bush or his bailouts. What we need is freedom. You're right that the insurance companies are parasitic. That's because there is no free competition -- it's all corporatism. The corporatist pay congress, and the congress makes sure to pass regulations and other laws that benefit them, and keep out competition, at the expense of the average person.

Trying to buy insurance with a pre-existing condition is akin to running down the street to purchase fire insurance while your house is on fire. If you are already ill it's too late to insure against risk. You would have to pay for services out of pocket. Govt has driven prices up so dramatically that few people can do this, myself included. Before govt began distorting health care in the 60s most people paid out of pocket. Insurance was only needed in case of unexpected & catastrophic illness.
And because insurance covered catastrophic illness rather than being used for everything under the sun as it is today (such as a routine checkup) the insurance plans were far cheaper. There are many other factors that have contributed to the increasing prices; I'm merely trying to show that what we call insurance today isn't really insurance. It doesn't take risk in to account, which is the whole function of insurance.
In a single payer system, everyone pays a low fee. Those that struggle to make the (tax) payment, will be able to apply for a subsidy. No one will need to worry about a pre existing condition because Mom and Dad will pay into the fun since everyone was born. Everyone gets treatment, no more visits to ER because a family doctor won't treat you because you happen to be poor. Corporate health insurance is the problem not the government in this case. Reagan got it completely wrong.

Again you ignore the history of health care in this country. If you were familiar with it you would know that government enables the corporate health care industry. It is a beast of government. Prior to 1973 there were less than 40 HMOs in the USA. Small communities with plans that covered catastrophic illness.
One piece of legislation incentivized the industry and it expanded dramatically. The number of HMO's increased from 40 in 1971 (that had existed mostly for a few decades) to 133 by 1973, and continued to skyrocket after that.
There's no big surprise HMO's have exploded. LOL, They pretty much take the healthy part of society and insure them. Then when you do get sick they need to find a reason to not cover you, because afterall it does hit their bottom line. Cannot have that in a capitalist system, profit is great right. Again, I repeat other countries have universal health care in the past and at present and it is not busting any budgets.

LOL, we have our own health care system up here. We don't need the US one little bit. The only people that go to the US for treatment our the rich that want to skip ahead in line instead of waiting a few months. They skip ahead of people that are sicker and have been waiting longer. It's that wait that kills so many, especially cancer patients where the timing of treatment is so critical to survival. Exactly why we don't want your socialistic system down here. A wait for some equates a death sentence or a worsening of permanent damage. If you had a free market system there would be an ample supply of doctors to treat the ill. Waiting in line until you die is not good healthcare. Doctors here can triage and treat as they see fit instead of sending them to the end of a line.

So I take my kid to a different doctor. In a free market it's the market that dictates the number of doctors. In your system it's the government, that's why you spend months in line and days in a waiting room while your condition worsens. Your supply of services is limited by the government. The quality of your doctors is limited by what the government will pay them. And while you maintain that it's equal I'm certain your prime minister will get an appointment before you.

I haven't had any issue with my "quality" of doctors. LOL Your saying you have A1 doctors down in the States? There's crooked doctors down there that are completely out for more money, and engage in practices such as making you go for extra testing at their lab even though it isn't needed.

Actually Canadians getter better bang for their buck in life expectancy and cost per capita on universal health care. What puzzles me is in the US there is more cost per capita and not everyone is covered. Sounds to me someone is taking more that their fair share of health dollars. Our costs include a lot of the R&D for healthcare world wide. Ever hear of U.S. citizens ordering their drugs from Canada? We can order the exact same name brand prescription drug from Canada for less than it costs in the U.S. even though it's made in the U.S. And our wonderful FDA has decided this trade is unsafe for us since they supposedly didn't get a chance to look at the drugs.
If you watch sicko from Michael Moore, he takes a first responder with respiratory problems that was created with all of the hazardous material from 911. Unfortunately, somehow, someway, this person didn't get any kind of coverage and had to pay over $70 for the puffer she needs in the US. However she cried when she found out she could pick up the same thing in Cuba for $3. Something frigged up there, but no surprise, I mean in the US it's all about profits and private enterprise.

The thing you ignore is the fact that you dont have to rely on the healthcare system here, you can opt out and pay your own bills. As for a splint, any good coverage and it will not cost you. However you are free to join a large number of plans depending on what you want, or none and just pay out of pocket with a savings.
It varies from province to province, and yes I do comment alot on US site because I realize that the Canadian economy is reliant on the US economy. I do my part to save the middle class there and inform as much as possible.

Well I cannot say about Canada if I was poor... I was pretty damn poor in the US here though all the time growing up, and I had care. Luckily I was qualified, education funding wasnt so great though as I still owe about +30,000$ on it...
Keep in mind that the entire country should not suffer to make it better for the poor. You can make it better for the poor in many ways without effecting the choices of those who are not. If you pay all your own bills, why should you lose 55% of wages on tax?

Well as I said before there are many options for insurance. But yes generally its just a standard doctor visit, and you can go to a second one if you like, or a third, and not even tell each of them about the previous if you choose. You do not have to see your primary care physician on every visit, however Im not arguing that the US has the best system, its broken too.We have the option of MANY insurances, or even paying out of pocket without losing money on a forced health care system already.

yep, we have had emergency rooms and healthcare in the US since long before I was born. The only thing that has changed is the number of prescriptions required, and the prices fo those.. and the focus on poison/pharmaceuticals rather than nutrition and overall optimal health. Now days more people die from 'mistakes' in American hospitals.

I can't disagree with your last 4 or 5 replies, I completely agree 100%. Unfortunately the majority don't have money to influence government, they only have numbers. There need to be some sort of rebellion or something to force change. I honestly can't say there is any other way. Government ignores it's own citizens on popular points. There is also an element of propoganda to fight again'st in corporate television.

10) Hockey players have their team doctors, Some companies even have their own doctors in the US and in Canada. Many hockey teams just buy their own MRI machine, no need to wait. However average Joe does not have this advantage.

Not sure how it is in canada, but here in the US, every single government program has failed. Sounds likes the healthcare is not doing hot in Canada for funding either. Also keep in mind that taxes rarely EVER go down... at least in the US, if something goes down, its because something else goes up... but the bottom line is always increasing pretty much. So that 55% will become 60% sooner or later... and when the healthcare system completely fails and can no longer be funded... your taxes will still not go down, you will be paying for the failed program. Just as we are paying into social security which is already lost for us younger generation.
its kinda sad and telling that only a few years ago was the tax for funding the spanish american war FINALLY removed from our telephone bills... it was added during the war, and this many decades after the war ended, everyone continued paying these taxes... Taxes and government programs are never temporary, and once they are implemented, if they fail, you are often left defenseless and poor paying for a broken system. The price of food and lodging only go up and up and up too. Wages don't government has not raised wages to match inflation. To me companies should be shameful to not look after their employees alot better than they do. Also companies get huge tax breaks and contracts from government due to lobbying. Lobbying should be outlawed, because in the end it raises our debt and raises our taxes.
I agree fully, lobbying is bad. Also they should not hire monsanto workers in the dept of agriculture, and put big pharma employees in the FDA. Yes, both corporation and corrupted government are to blame for this whole mess. In my opinion they need a cleansing in the US. The system needs to be reset, and they will need to eventually default on their debt. Open up the Federal Reserve to an audit. Yep, I do what I can to spread that same message. Worked hard on the Ron Paul campaign etc. When you study the Constitution it is amazing how much you realize that enforcement of the document would have prevented most all these situations. Before the BIG government, doctors were glad to help out the sick for free, it was part of being a doctor "to help the sick". There were private fundraiser/charities as well which were successful. Now its not possible. In a good economy people help each other.

He can't order Canadian troops?? We went into Afghanistan as part of our NATO commitment. It's been repeated by leaders around the world that US foriegn policy brings on such animosity with extremists in the middle east. That has more to do with Bush than with Canada.
Bush has major sway with NATO policy. Remember the statement "your either with us or again'st us". I know it was mean't for Pakistan, but if that isn't a misguided statement I don't know what is. It's like telling the American public, NATO allies, world body, that it's better you be on board or there will be consequences. Again, bad foriegn policy. Didn't really matter all your rights were taken away with the patriot act anyway. :(

I bought five hard back copies and five audiobook CDs of Ron Paul's Revolution: A Manifesto and gave them to the local library so all five branches could have one of each. The acquisitions librarian didn't want to catalog them because she thought it was a campaign book. I convinced her that wasn't the case. I've checked their online status throughout the year and they've been VERY popular.
I'm going to see if I can buy five of these DVDs to donate and start a little revolution in my town!

Insurance companies are in business for profit. If there were less government agencies oversight a local doctor could trade office visits for fresh produce, cows, silver, etc. Currently if your Dr writes off your HMO co-pay, he could be fined. National Health Care is not a benefit in the Constitution. We need to figure out a better way to help people to live healthier lives but not police them.

Be prepared, Ron Paul's policies to rid the Fed Reserve are admirable. His policies are purely market driven though, kinda like putting a bull in a china shop. Any social programs such as social security or unemployment benefits would suffer. However, the rich will get richer, why not? The rich can always use more money.

Having government in healthcare only inflates the costs.
I will not pay for this. There are already nonprofit caregivers available if you need handouts.
Get the government out of business and the economy, and this stuff will be more affordable. i promise you that.

Would they do it if the employee has a pre existing condition that was no fault of their own therefor not "profitable" for the business to offer care? What is the gaurantee that business just won't get the cheapest coverage just to qualify for the deductable? Why should there be a bunch of middle men (businesses & insurance companies) that get their cut and the only ones that get cheated is the patient and the taxpayer, because deductibles are like a bailout to a company from the taxpayer.

When government comes in and trys to reduce cost by cutting some gouging insurance companies (who really don't supply anything other than take cheques in and sign cheques out and take a 30% cut for this service). Insurance industry is a big cash cow that needs to die. It's a big parasite that needs to be treated by being cut out.

That's because there is no free competition -- it's all corporatism. The corporatist pay congress, and the congress makes sure to pass regulations and other laws that benefit them, and keep out competition, at the expense of the average person.

Trying to buy insurance with a pre-existing condition is akin to running down the street to purchase fire insurance while your house is on fire. If you are already ill it's too late to insure against risk. You would have to pay for services out of pocket. Govt has driven prices up so dramatically that few people can do this, myself included. Before govt began distorting health care in the 60s most people paid out of pocket. Insurance was only needed in case of unexpected & catastrophic illness.

In a single payer system, everyone pays a low fee. Those that struggle to make the (tax) payment, will be able to apply for a subsidy. No one will need to worry about a pre existing condition because Mom and Dad will pay into the fun since everyone was born. Everyone gets treatment, no more visits to ER because a family doctor won't treat you because you happen to be poor. Corporate health insurance is the problem not the government in this case. Reagan got it completely wrong.

Again you ignore the history of health care in this country. If you were familiar with it you would know that government enables the corporate health care industry. It is a beast of government. Prior to 1973 there were less than 40 HMOs in the USA. Small communities with plans that covered catastrophic illness.

It's that wait that kills so many, especially cancer patients where the timing of treatment is so critical to survival. Exactly why we don't want your socialistic system down here. A wait for some equates a death sentence or a worsening of permanent damage. If you had a free market system there would be an ample supply of doctors to treat the ill. Waiting in line until you die is not good healthcare. Doctors here can triage and treat as they see fit instead of sending them to the end of a line.

So I take my kid to a different doctor. In a free market it's the market that dictates the number of doctors. In your system it's the government, that's why you spend months in line and days in a waiting room while your condition worsens. Your supply of services is limited by the government. Our costs include a lot of the R&D for healthcare world wide. Ever hear of U.S. citizens ordering their drugs from Canada? 2) I am personally in the 55% tax bracket. Yes 55% of my earnings go to taxes
3) Many Canadians do not have a family Doctor.
4) Don't require emergency treatment as you may wait for hours in the emergency room waiting for treatment.
5) Recently paid 125$ for a splint since it was not covered and was needed for a injured hand
6) A friend diagnosed with a heart blockage. Put on a waiting list . Died before he could get treatment.

nope not in the US that is from a veteran Canadian who has done lots of research. #9 is real. Now I notice to defend the health care you often site the US as having problems. The thing you ignore is the fact that you dont have to rely on the healthcare system here, you can opt out and pay your own bills. As for a splint, any good coverage and it will not cost you. However you are free to join a large number of plans depending on what you want, or none and just pay out of pocket with a savings.

It varies from province to province, and yes I do comment alot on US site because I realize that the Canadian economy is reliant on the US economy. I do my part to save the middle class there and inform as much as possible.
If you were poor where would you rather be Canada or the US?
If your rich obviously you want to be in the US. As far as I'm concerned the Americans can keep the over compensated doctors, politicians, and bankers. The rich in Canada haven't taken out food stamps.

Well I cannot say about Canada if I was poor... I was pretty damn poor in the US here though all the time growing up, and I had care. Luckily I was qualified, education funding wasnt so great though as I still owe about +30,000$ on it...
Keep in mind that the entire country should not suffer to make it better for the poor. You can make it better for the poor in many ways without effecting the choices of those who are not. If you pay all your own bills, why should you lose 55% of wages on tax?

You must understand that the top 1% in American society have more than the bottom 95%. Also, the middle class have borrowed to delude themselves that they actually could go on a vacation, own a home, or buy presents for their kids.
Trust me, it would not break my heart that if Bill Gates, or better yet Walmart owners made a billion bucks, that they only get by one 100 million instead due to tax. That's 90% tax.

That second opinion wont be covered though from what I have been told by friends in Canada who has experienced the issue. Maybe as you say it matters in province, but just shows how easily the system can be limiting and you pay extra to have less choice.

Well as I said before there are many options for insurance. But yes generally its just a standard doctor visit, and you can go to a second one if you like, or a third, and not even tell each of them about the previous if you choose. You do not have to see your primary care physician on every visit, however Im not arguing that the US has the best system, its broken too.We have the option of MANY insurances, or even paying out of pocket without losing money on a forced health care system already.

I think your a nice guy and do accept input unlike some of the people that get on here. 75% of Americans want universal health care, however the lobbyists and GOP pundits on TV drown that out. Trust me people who need care aren't forced into the emergency rooms, people need to pay to have emergency rooms and healthcare in their progressive societies. If you can't afford it there are programs with the government to subsidize you.

yep, we have had emergency rooms and healthcare in the US since long before I was born. The only thing that has changed is the number of prescriptions required, and the prices fo those.. and the focus on poison/pharmaceuticals rather than nutrition and overall optimal health. Now days more people die from 'mistakes' in American hospitals.
Amazing Fact: "More people are killed or seriously injured in U.S. hospitals annually than from airline and automobile accidents combined."

I only mention this because It think you may be right, but only because ever since introduced, the headlines are now consisting of "people who didnt get care" and "how bad healthcare is" and "how good universal care is" and a few arguments of course.. Most people want what they see on tv, healthcare is the agenda

75% comes from Michael Moore. I'm sure I could find some poll somewhere where it is reported. He is usually very reliable with his stats because he is always scrutinized later and can't afford a screwup in his numbers. They usually just resort to calling him names because they can't discredit him.

I dont doubt 75% want the dream of universal healthcare that works. Everyone wants that, but it just has yet to be seen, and instead there are many other solutions. Its the US and most big governments natural reaction to create another bureaucracy out of any problem. To bandaid and cover up issues and never work at fixing the fundamentals unless there is some sort of giant collapse. They put it off, and put it off, and make things worse.. until it explodes in their face and the poor suffer.

I think if the government was not so corporate controlled, corrupt, and all their existing programs were not so broken and resource draining. Then it wouldnt be such a danger.. but given the fact taxes remain for decades after they are implemented, every system ends up with so much overhead it breaks down, and then corrupt leaders with conflicts of interest run the show... its just recipe for disaster... look at FEMA? katrina. look at the FDA? banning vitamins.. the DEA? bust medicalMJ patients

Basically putting out this national healthcare plan will only guarantee more BAD care to those who need GOOD care. They need to work on the health industry/economy first and this wouldnt be necessary. They are ignoring the problem of prices/money/economy and covering it up with a government healthcare program as things continue to get worse. This is a bandaid and temp solution. It is rewarding a corrupt medical industry and high prices with our tax dollars. Treating the symptom not the illness.

I agree, first they need to eliminate the parasitic insurance companies, then work on medical facilities that are gouging people with bad care. Private business isn't out there to make good healthcare, their out there to make a profit. Governmnent is base on being profit nuetral and consentrating on the public good. Business definitely isn't. Competition is a laugh since they collude anyway and are immune from anti trust laws in the US.

Another point is that 75% of Americans also believe that this National Healthcare plan will not cost them a dime, does not cover the illegal immigrants, and will guarantee everyone the care they need without having to pay. this is how its being sold, and even Obama said on TV (and was called a Liar) that it wouldnt cover illegal immigrants. This I think doesnt matter as they may need care too and should get it, but it was an outright lie. Why the lies/deceit/fear mongering? Why not honesty?

Exactly, and the current state of the US government is probably at least 90-95% profit based due to the lobbying, the 'employees' who move from corporation to political position and back and forth... same with the industry of war, we have profiteers in power making war decisions. I can't disagree with your last 4 or 5 replies, I completely agree 100%. Unfortunately the majority don't have money to influence government, they only have numbers. There need to be some sort of rebellion or something to force change. I honestly can't say there is any other way. Government ignores it's own citizens on popular points. There is also an element of propoganda to fight again'st in corporate television.

10) I am not allowed by law to spend my money on getting an operation I need because that would be "jumping the queue". I must wait my turn except if I am a hockey player or athlete then I can get looked at right away.
11) immigrants are covered automatically at tax payer expense and pay no premiums.
12) we now give free needles to drug users to try and keep them healthy. People with diabetes who pay into the healthcare system must pay for their needles not covered by the health care system

10) Hockey players have their team doctors, Some companies even have their own doctors in the US and in Canada. Many hockey teams just buy their own MRI machine, no need to wait. However average Joe does not have this advantage.
11) Same in the US however worse because they have so many more "illegal" immigrants.
12) Good, if you can afford you should pay to help subsidize the system

Im not going to say the US system is better or worse, as both medical industries and healthcare systems seem to be more about pumping peope full of poisons to cover up symptoms of REAL health issues, rather than treat the health issues themselves. Not sure how it is in canada, but here in the US, every single government program has failed. Sounds likes the healthcare is not doing hot in Canada for funding either. If they fail at everything, what happens when you trust them with your health/life?

Also keep in mind that taxes rarely EVER go down... at least in the US, if something goes down, its because something else goes up... but the bottom line is always increasing pretty much. So that 55% will become 60% sooner or later... and when the healthcare system completely fails and can no longer be funded... your taxes will still not go down, you will be paying for the failed program. Just as we are paying into social security which is already lost for us younger generation.

its kinda sad and telling that only a few years ago was the tax for funding the spanish american war FINALLY removed from our telephone bills... it was added during the war, and this many decades after the war ended, everyone continued paying these taxes... Taxes and government programs are never temporary, and once they are implemented, if they fail, you are often left defenseless and poor paying for a broken system. Working more hours, paying higher prices, and no benefits left from the system

The price of food and lodging only go up and up and up too. Wages don't government has not raised wages to match inflation. To me companies should be shameful to not look after their employees alot better than they do. Also companies get huge tax breaks and contracts from government due to lobbying. Lobbying should be outlawed, because in the end it raises our debt and raises our taxes.

I agree fully, lobbying is bad. Also they should not hire monsanto workers in the dept of agriculture, and put big pharma employees in the FDA. (shouldnt have an Israeli military veteran as the head of the US national security either really, but thats another story..). Conflicts of interest should be outlawed. If this was the case, these sort of health care plans would be less scary and corrupt. Most need healthcare because we have no money/savings from overtaxation/low wages and high prices.

Yes, both corporation and corrupted government are to blame for this whole mess. In my opinion they need a cleansing in the US. The system needs to be reset, and they will need to eventually default on their debt. Open up the Federal Reserve to an audit. There is alot of corruption and attempted deleveraging going on toward the taxpayer. In my opinion its criminal and treasonous.

Yep, I do what I can to spread that same message. Worked hard on the Ron Paul campaign etc. When you study the Constitution it is amazing how much you realize that enforcement of the document would have prevented most all these situations. Before the BIG government, doctors were glad to help out the sick for free, it was part of being a doctor "to help the sick". There were private fundraiser/charities as well which were successful. Now its not possible. In a good economy people help each other.

You must realize that we have a debt burden from years past that has run up to billions and billions of dollars. We have no choice because of bad governance. I recommend you watch on Youtube "Oh Canada Movie 1"
At least we don't have to pay higher taxes like Americans do for military spending, missing pentagon money, bailing out sickeningly rich American bankers so they can get their bonuses.
Governance needs to be more accountable everywhere in the world on managing debt.

Canadian's died in Afghanistan with Bush in power, also Bush's economic policies are affecting the world not just the US. He also tried to get us into Afghanistan, thankfully we didn't go but it wasn't from a lack of pressure from Washington.

He can't order Canadian troops?? We went into Afghanistan as part of our NATO commitment. It's been repeated by leaders around the world that US foriegn policy brings on such animosity with extremists in the middle east. That has more to do with Bush than with Canada.

soo many people want this, but seriously look at Dennis Kucinch and what he stands for. Pro Obama, Pro Socialized Medicine, pro more spending. Hell, he even hesitated to support 1207! He is no libertarian.
Also, if Ron Paul wants to win the GOP nomination in 2012, he will need to appeal to the more traditional right wing. Someone like Jim DeMint would be much better

I bought five hard back copies and five audiobook CDs of Ron Paul's Revolution: A Manifesto and gave them to the local library so all five branches could have one of each. The acquisitions librarian didn't want to catalog them because she thought it was a campaign book. I convinced her that wasn't the case. I've checked their online status throughout the year and they've been VERY popular.
I'm going to see if I can buy five of these DVDs to donate and start a little revolution in my town!

We do that by subsidizing sloth and irresponsible reproduction by allowing people to buy cigarettes and booze with food stamps.
