  • An obsession with Poe I can understand. One with John Cusack is another...

I was really hoping for Robert Downey Jr. to play this role (he wanted to) and that it would more closely reflect Poe's life (it was dark and interesting enough without all of this assine, fictionalized murder mystery associated with his tales that reeks of A Murder of Crows and is an apparent spin-off of Sherlock Holmes. Stalone should stick to Rocky and Rambo and leave the intellectual movies to someone else...

  • They should've called it Sherlock Poe.

  • this is like hannibal rising and sherlock holmes of usa

  • why cusack??,, why not cage or depp?

  • @FaridGzz um..because the director chose him for a reason?

  • I can not wait for this to come out Edgar Allan Poe is the greatest sickest most epic person that ever walked this earth! I love how they are combining all of his amazing stories into one movie!

  • I can not wait for this movie!! Good movies are so hard to come by these days, and this looks amazing!!!!

  • Can't wait for this movie :))

  • SE7EN BUT SHITTIER??? FOR SHAME

  • Nicholas cage should have been poe haha this looks decent at best

  • Damn trailers are now fuckin' summaries... >____>

  • 1:03 the watch came out of his mouth. Gross. The way it came out. How fast it was. Eww

  • Edgar Allan Poe was real. Sherlock Holmes wasn't. However..both greatly smart

  • YEAAAAAAAAAH ALICE EVEEEEE

  • can not wait to see Luke Evans in this!! He' brilliant and hot!

  • The father of the detective story as a detective. What a brilliant idea!

  • This brings back memories of my high school English class

  • What is the music for this trailer!?

  • Comment removed

  • I'm going to call it now... the detective is the killer!! dun dun dun!

  • Edgar Allen Poe as detective... lol. The guy was a tortured, paranoid addict who couldn't stay out of debt. "Brilliant detective" and Poe shouldn't even be in the same sentence.

  • @fawazr He is known as "The Father of the Detective Story", so it's very fitting that the movie writers made him the detective in this tale. Everyone has vices, but everyone does not have the genius writing talent that he had.

  • Woah, woah, woah... wait wait... wait... This... looks like garbage... rehashed... crap... Sherlock Holmes meets From Hell... Ugh.

  • hollywood is trying to destroy edgar allan poe. it looks awful

  • This movie reminds me of Sleepy Hollow and From Hell.

  • Soooo twenty bucks says that the killer turns out to be Luke Evan's character.

  • Thats so Raven

  • I'm guessing the investigator dude is the killer. so predictable

  • @l0r3nz0isSaf3 Similar to The Bone Collector? Ahh i have seen a shit ton of movies and i know there are others with that ending but i can't remember them. Fuck u for the mind fuck and solid call on the ending

  • As a fan of his writing and crime drama's, I'm all over this shit.

  • Cusack doesn't have enough crazy to be Poe.

  • the detective police officer and Poe fanboy is the killer.

  • made in Serbia :)

  • Was that Neville Longbottom?

  • 0:29 The Black Cat

1:11 The Pit and the Pendulum

1:24 Masque of the Red Death

1:46 I think Fall of the House of Usher...?

Tell me other stories that are refernced in here if you saw them.

  • @FleetStreetPhantom17 The description of the murders at the beginning is, I think, a reference to "The Murders in the Rue Morgue".

  • 1:51 lmfao! They used the punch like from Kill Bill Vol. 1/2

  • i love john cusack, but i think Jeffrey Combs is a better Poe

  • One part of the movie was shot in my street, Kosancicev venac, in Belgrade, Serbia. Saw when they made old fashion-like buildings out of planks. :) Looked awesome.

  • Taking The Raven and working that poem into a movie would have been so much better than this. That's what I was expecting. This is just something else that's inspired by Poes works. Not as interesting (to me).

  • @Renitamac Well they already had two movies that tried doing that and they didn't turn out so good. I respect your opinion though, to me this is a nice concept of basically putting Poe into his own stories through the course of the investigation.

  • @AshXXMayftw What are the names of those two movies? I want to see them.

  • @Renitamac The Raven and The Raven, one staring Bela Lagosi and the other I believe Vincent Price

  • Can't wait!

  • Reminds me a little of The Bone Collector!

  • My guess: It's the detective. He's the killer.

  • this looks AMAZING.

  • O.O

    Poe...

    John Cusack...

    Directer of V for Vendetta...

    MUST SEE THIS.

Words cannot possibly describe how excited I am.

  • @mj, the murders are based in his short stories. There really is no "end" to read. The stories are not linked.

  • what is that guy on the evil version of zorro O-o

  • sucksss

  • I just had a nerd orgasm.

  • looks good-hopefully its not rated R!

  • 1:41... Pure Batman moment XD

  • looks awesome. i want to see this

  • If the killer is commuting murders based in a book, then why don't they read the end so they know how to catch the ducker? God I hate auto correct.

  • Rufus Wilmot Griswold...A Rival and a enemy of Poe...He wrote Poe's biography after Poe's death humiliating him as a madman. he actually was a good person who mastered the language of Latin to his teen years and defended his friends from bullies.

He was considered mad for many numbers of reasons near his death, other than alcohol.

  • the Saw Part was actually from the story "The Pit and the Pendulum" from Edgar Allen poe. Yep Edgar Allen Poe is so bad ass, he wrote saw.

  • The movie looks awesome, but they exaggerated with the trailer and gave up too much of the story in it. Now I know exactly what is going on in the movie. They should have made it more cryptic.

  • SAW 1:15

  • So many of my favorite actors :D. I'll go see this for sure.

  • They ruined Sherlock, now they're after Edgar... Who cares right? As long as it is with big budget, lots of action and in 3D! What's next? Lovecraft with a machine gun, killing Deep Ones? Or maybe Poirot blowing up the Orient Express!

  • ommmggg Edgar Allen Poe is the shiiitt

  • man I really like the poem/poetry of this, if you ever heard of it

  • Interesting. ^_^

  • Obsessed with John Cusack, obsessed with Edgar Allan Poe, I cannot wait for this. Oh and guys, this is a fiction movie, so calm down about the accuracy crap. :D

  • Reminds me of Sleepy Hollow.

  • @CanadianRM4: And From Hell.

  • I don't care if it isn't accurate to the real Poe, its a movie, its supposed to be different. If they used an accurate portrayal of Poe he would just sit there and say "to hell with those people getting killed". So I don't mind them using a parallel Poe who wants to stop a killer who is framing him.

  • JigSaw's GRAND GRAND GRAND GRAND Pa.... =P

  • this looks awesome, but so far this looks like a cross between Sherlock Holmes and Saw

  • I like the concept of this film, it's really good, but I don't like the fact that set it in the time of Poe, it would have been better if they set it in modern times. As for the actor they chose, the only thing I like about him is that they made him kinda look like Poe. Other than that, the movie goer in me will see it, but the Poe fan in me isn't going to like it.

  • Not the crow...not THE CROW...

  • Tim Burton and Johnny Depp anyone?

  • WOOOW 1:10 trap from saw 5, way to copy

  • @tennis1412

The Pit and The Pendulum is a classic Poe story.

  • I'm sorry, but isn't Edgar Allen Poe suppose to be extremely awkward due to the death of so many of his family members, his forbidden love with a woman who dies, and his isolation from society? I can't take this movie seriously, I'm sorry.

  • @FaIlHiGH

This movie, though, doesn't fall into the common (although completely untrue) belief of Poe the crazed drunken drug addict.

  • @syafiqjabar I didn't say he was a drunken crazed drug addict, I only said he was awkward. Granted I've never met him in real life, but if you read his letters, not just his poems, he has an awkward tone to them. This makes it seem more like he is a heroic figure, paralleled to Sherlock Holmes.

  • Like if you think John Cusack is hot !!!

  • Edgar Allen Poe was a police detective?

  • @slevscythe No, but he wrote many detective stories and is thought of as the 1st person to write them.

  • i thought it said John Cocksack...

  • I can't not like anything involving Edgar Allan Poe (except the insest thing, really weird) but this looks....off

  • great something else hollywood found to ruin.

  • I liked Edgar Allan Poe better when he was a drunken mad man. Not an action adventure hero.

  • its the cop....

  • @Danafondo That's the same thing I thought too. The killers voice and the cops voice sound the same

  • Man this looks sooo shitty for Edgar Allan Poe's fans... Fuck how could they possibly think of doing this? He wasn't famous like that in that time... God!!!

  • I know the trailers always seem so cool and great but still I think this film might be worth to go to see in a cinema.

  • Gaddammit.. I hate when they take notable non-fictional characters of history and put them in outrageous fictional bullshit..

I guess it could be worse! Could have easily been another damn Tim Burton film!

  • @ubersteigen HEY! DON'T KNOCK TIM BURTON! He's the best.

  • trailer gave away too much. i'll see it anyway

  • Nice. This looks good

  • 1:41 John Cusack's audition for The Dark Knight

I really hope this movie is good because it has a really great and interesting premis and a character that would be so much fun and fascinating to explore such a historic, dark, sad, frightening, enigmatic literary genius such as Edgar Allan Poe. I just hope the writers did not miss that chance to explore the character

  • Reminds me of the Pilot Episode of 'Castle'

  • @aparda Ooh, good comparison

  • Edgar Allen Poe wrote Saw 1:17 too.

  • 1:41 batman impersonation !!!

  • Aaahh nice :D

  • 01:17 wasn't like the same scene in SAW 4 (I think) -.-

  • @slanis Saw 5 actually

  • Looks Awesome R for Raven

  • looks amazing but from a historian (aka me, studied Poe) this is totally inaccurate.....still looks awesome and can't wait to see it

  • Ooohh... WOW!! I've gotta see this! I might can wait for it to be released on DVD, though. John Cusack... the older he gets... the better he gets!!

  • saw 8 ?

  • Se ve muy buena esta pelicula, tiene cierto parecido con sherlock holmes

  • cool

  • Rolf Lamo, in highschool, we were reading edgar allen poes "the black cat, "Tell-tale heart", and "the cask of amontillado"

  • @megaman12521 What the hell does "Rolf Lamo" mean?

  • @JustinTimePro i think its supposed to be Rofl Lmao (rolling on the floor laughing and laughing my ass off). i think it was a typo...if not, than i have no idea

  • @5UP3RV4MP thanks :P

  • @5UP3RV4MP That's what I'm assuming, because I have no idea what else it could be, lol.

  • @JustinTimePro LOL same

  • looks great......

  • looks like another shelock holmes + @486freddv no one cares

  • interesting..

  • First :D
