What a hard line to walk at times. I feel encouraged. Yesterday, when a kiddo was kicked out of class for swearing and threatening, I was unsure as to how to support the teacher, the church and the kid (parents not around). took him to circle K for a sode and chips, sat with him, realized the kid didn't even know how to tie his shoes. Taught him. His smile came back. His life still stinks but at least he knows how to tie his shoes, and that there is a safe place for him.
Thanks for having a heart that loves unconditionally and for teaching others to do the same. I wish I grew up with a father like you. Instead I have the wonderful opportunity to be a father who loves unconditionally to my 13 year old daughter and effect generations to come in my family.
We have gone through some of the worst times as parents. I concur with this video, tho there were also times when we had to stand toe-to-toe and say, "NO!" There is no manual. But now, we have a wonderful adult son who's totally turned around trusts us because of the grace & integrity we've treated him with. It's not easy when they seem to be out of control, but we learned through difficult experiences that grace opens the door for God rather than clouding issues with our egos.
John I want this to be the way to reach our hurting 18 year old sons heart. The problem is that everyone tells us if we do, we are enabling his destructive choices. How to we love and protect without enabling bad behavior?
wow, this absolutely made me weep...oh how many lives would be different if we experienced this kind of protection!!
