  • omg! i love this ake! how long did it take you to make?

  • so cute. i need to do a backyardigans cake soon, can you post how to make the figures?? i tried but i cant quite get it down and i dont know what im doing wrong!!! thanks so much if you can!!

  • i need to figure out how to make that backyardigans cake for my 2 year old neice....she is obsessed with the backyardigans and would LOVE this cake

  • I love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mayen you inspired me to make my niece's birthday cake I also did a Backyardigans theme since she likes them so much let me know what you think...your feedback is greatly appreciated....Love your cakes!

  • Backyardigans ! LOL omg

    nice

  • I hope you know I meant that as a compliment!! : ) ...I am waiting on a book from Linda Brown to make the train conductor from Thomas the Tank... plus I am going to throw on my dogs, just for fun... crazy idea, hope it all comes together... lol! My son is hysterical, he watches all the cake videos with me and gets so excited by all the designs... if in the end he is the only one smiling, I will have known I did a good job, right?! Thanks again!!!

  • it was an honor to get that compliment... it sounded so cool i had to react :) I also use my son as an indicator if i did well... bec if he recognizes the characters, and if he squeals and wants to hold them , i know i did a good job! i have no doubt you will too. the desire to please our kids will enable us to make the most fantastic things :)

  • Mayan, I think you have so much raw talent for cake decorating! It's fun to see all your creations. You're always so humble about it too! I'm going to work with gumpaste for the first time on my sons 3rd birthday cake. Basically figures though. I've invested a lot of time (researching) and $ in products... lol! Im nervous though... I was worried about the taste too, so glad to read the last post. Thanks for giving me the inspiration to try it though! Great Job!!

  • thanks! 'raw talent' sounded so cool haha..it made me smile :) It will really add up --investment wise-- especially when you are starting to accumulate stuff for fondant and gumpaste use-- but for me, it was all initially my tool to destress and relax... it was ultimately worth having a sane mind haha...when you get to use these materials over and over, they pay for themselves too. :)

  • The tiki hut was such a cute inspiration! Well done:) Love the whole thing!

You do what you can on the days that you are able:)

    BOP

  • Mayen I love the cakes you make ,especially the way you incorporate a theme for you cakes.I have two questions I hope you can answer...1# When you are creating your cakes how much of a factor does the taste of the cake play for you?I read from so many sites that fondant doesn't taste as good as butter cream but as your cakes demonstrate, fondant is so beautiful.2# I'm going to start the Wilton decorating course many because your talent has inspired me so much..are you completely self taught?

  • Hi there :) taste is a major factor-- i had to do many tries to find recipes i really like, i learned to make the swiss buttercream too. for fondant, it gets a bad rep bec the more widely available fondant - wilton's- is the least tasty of the bunch. besides, people have a different expectation of fondant bec it is always compared to buttercream. marshmallow fondant is the most 'familiar' taste , hence the more accepted taste.

  • And good luck with your wilton class! i wanted to take one before but my baby kinda tied me to the house :) so I call myself 'youtube taught' cause technically i am not self taught... mimzywhimzy, seriouscakes, aine2,tonedna1 among others--were my teachers

  • Lol...I always smile when I hear your little one making him/her self heard! How you do all you do with a baby I'll never know but please don't stop...you are soo gifted!

  • Mayen, the nerve of those people..does it mean that if you have carpal tunnel you cannot type, knit or do anything..they are the ones who cannot survive if something is thrown at them!!!!Dont mind them....there are more people who believes in you!!!

  • Really beautiful!!! I love your use of colours and hope you get better soon I am a complete technophobe and really struggling to get some of mine online I would relly like to know what you think!! take care luv your work xx

  • Hi guys! I had to remove a couple of comments here from someone stating that i am a "liar" -- because it is impossible for someone who had injuries to have made these. WHEW-- after my recovery, i dare not subject my shoulders to extensive kneading--hence the MIXER!!! But hey, instead of saying-- good job on making the best of what you got... some people would rather say--tsk tsk "she must be lying" ... well, if that makes you feel better about yourself.....

  • What an artist !! great job Mayen !! Ive done a few now, inspired by u and criscake....my first youtube teachers. but you are really an artist. i've not worked out how to video tape yet. i only have pics.

  • You are my idol mayen, lol no joke my little nephew loves the backyardigans

  • Aww what a great cake!!! You rock girl!!!

  • THIS IS REALLY CUTEEEE! I love the little hut. :D Can I ask a question. What do you do when the fondant starts getting dry and break apart? I've tried using shortening or icing sugar. Doesn't work at all! Please help! :(

  • Shortening should work.Unless the fondant has dried way too much to rescue it --- you can also try microwaving it for a few seconds and then kneading it real well to return it's consistency to normal

  • Wonderful video!!! Each time I see your videos, I admire you even more! Beautiful cake!
