i have this album. havent heard this in yonks. I think that there was a massive fallout between richey edwards and the rest of the group. everything must go was the result. they wanted to move forward and they became a hugely successful commercial band after everything must go. if you look at the cover of the album. the three remaining members are in framed photograhs on a bottom shelf. the top shelf is empty.......

sometimes with bands who are about to become global band members panic about such things and get really stressed. that happened to Bill Berry a founder member of REM. He left the band after collapsing after a gig in Zurich. Stipey made a documentary out of it. which I saw and I was like oh micheal stop being such a drama queen. I read in a book about rem. that there was a lot of tension in the band. berry hated travelling.

I guess there were around 200 people in the room and a good many of them were Brits (You could tell by the accents) but a huge number of the Americans "knew all the words", so audience participation was enthusiastic and competent.

The Manics were incredible at the Paradise in Boston. It's unbelievable that we could see them in a small venue like that. It's sad that America has no idea who they are and how good they are.
