You have no idea where this music takes me. Near the end of about 6 hours playing, this "jam" shows us what a band who are so in tune with eachother can really do. Absolutely mind blowing!
@ConnorG56 It's sort of an improvised jam. It was surely improvised at some point in this period of their career, but here it souds a little to polished to be made up by Pete on the spot. Then again, it's the Who! I don't think it has a name but I've always thought of it as "Deceivement."
rock and roll, thats it. nothing left to say. the end. if you look up rock and roll in the dictionary it should say... "listen to 'live at leeds'" the should say in order to get to heaven you have to accept live at leeds as your personal lord and savior.... it's all good after that!!
This is the best "stoned babble" live instrumental ever. Can't help wondering if they even planned it - or if it was just a spur-of-the-moment thing while on stage.
Either way, it's great listening when getting stoned with a few friends...
@atsabraxas Hey atsabraxas / excellent to hear someone mention one of the all time amazing and unheard live albums ever produced; Rory Gallagher's "Irish Tour '74". Eric Clapton credits our Irish friend for introducing him to the possibilities of blues guitar music. Great to read Rory's name on YT. Respect.
This the best song on the best album by the best band of all time. 3.17 for me is when the sun spins in the opposite direction and my spine turns to jelly, I have literally become weak at the knees listening to this section - if this was the only thing The Who ever recorded they would beat every band for all time with their unmatched, blazing intensity.
One of the beat Live recordings ever, on vinyl and I guess cd's you could here the cracking and popping noise from amps. I was 15 and doing all kind of things, awesome show that year here at Hofienz Pavilloin on UH Campus.
If you buy a new pair of speakers, this is the first album you should play through them. Just turn your stereo all the way up and if you're not rockin and knockin over furniture by the time this song ends, you need to take the speakers back.
I have listenned to this album multiple times as well as the original, the Isle of Wight etc... I believe this is an improv that kinda became a staple in Pete's solos. I could be wrong but I don't believe it is a specific song.
@ohsteven Dude, that is the best way to test new speakers I've ever had the privilege to hear and instantly understand!!! I don't have enough money for a new razor, but when I do come back to semi-prosperity, I will definitely use you formula for finding and keeping the best stereo equipment. I love all of Cream's live material, but they're the two best live band recordings I've ever heard or ever will.
@ohsteven I have to disagree. I have several bands I love more than The Who, but when I bought my first really nice, powerful stereo, I popped its cherry with "Baba O'Reilly." It is an incredible song, incredibly recorded.
I thought "Spoonful" and "Sitting On Top Of The World" by Cream were the best live stuff I've ever heard. But now, once again, I think I was wrong. "My Generation" is the best, EVER!!!
I love that track like the others, and when you bring it up, I can't help but think of "Hideaway", the title changed to "Steppin' Out" on Live Cream Vol. II. They're all great tracks. But thanks for putting this diamond song in a world full of mud. A few of us were happy to remember it.
@barbamitsos I've listened to "Goodbye" since the day it came out, and then "Live Cream I" and Live Cream II" and I love all three. You're right, "I'm So Glad" does kick ass bigtime.
@Aldebaron9 I'm not saying that Jimi's not the best, because JIMI'S THE BEST EVER, PERIOD, END OF STORY!!! I love "Machine Gun" off the "Band Of Gypsys" album. I just don't think there were as many recordings that were recorded as well as "Live At Leeds" and some of Cream's live shows.
...the drumming during the Sparks section remains, for me, the most perfect blend of power and precision that i have ever heard. Live at Leeds is the Olympus of all live recordings in the rock genre. It is almost impossibly powerful...
Well put my friend. This is the pinnacle of live rock 'n roll. There are a lot of other great live recordings, but this kicks the others' asses and takes their lunch money....
@thisNewFoundLand Agree 100% The genius that Moon displayed in this song is something that nothing or no one duplicate. You describe it perfectly in your comment. It's like control and abandon all at once.
I love the part 30 seconds in. It's like - "yeah, you didn't think we were going there, did ya? But we just did, didn't we? Now watcha gonna do about it? Yeah, that's what we thought. Now sit back and relax while Pete melts your face off." Epic.
Turn it up all the way NO LATER than :30

@schmittelt thats exactly why i thought it was a real song, with the singing and drums coming in perfectly.

@ConnorG56 Yes. He plays the riff twice before the Ox and Moonie kick in. Sort of a quick lesson from the band "leader". The Who had four leaders.
