Since doing this review I have tried some of the new LP2 which seem to be much better so I would go with those - and they look cooler when you are using them down the shops ;)
Im looking for some durable headphones as i will be taking them around alot, with detachable cable, and want the best sound quality possible, also which of these have the best bass??
Great video!! I'm not a dj, but I really enjoy good sound. Just for walking around town, riding the bus, would you suggest the tma-1 or the hd25? I'd really appreciate any help! :)
I would recommend the HD25-1 as I think they still have the edge or the new V-Moda M-80 They have worked with the audiophile community to get the sound quality as good as possible on the new ones and they are about the same size as the HD25-1
Few questions, for I am gonna be a DJ, and I cant decide between the pioneer hdj 500 or the sennheiser hd 25. Which would be better for Dubstep/DnB/Techno/Bass music?
I would say that the HD25-1 would probably be the best as they are light weight , durable and have really good sound quality. The cheaper HD25sp can be a bit annoying as the earcups spin round and the cable gets tangled. I would say that the HDJ-500 are probably better than the HD25sp for DJing but if you can afford them the HD25-1 or xone XD53 will give the best sound
@thpeed Thanks mate, probably gonna get some custom sennheisers from you. You have done some amazing work. How much would it cost for just a paint job without decals?
Don't get me wrong - I wore them around for a week and they were nice to listen to but I found that there was a little too much bass and not a lot of detail down low but I love they way they look. I also DJed with them in a noisy bar a couple of times and found it very tricky to hear the incoming track without turning them up so loud it hurt my ears as they let in too much external noise - I am hoping to get my hands on their V-80 soon which should sound much better.

I find the v-moda have a nice warm sound and do sound much better when you run them through a headphone amp but the still have a little too much bass. The HD25 have a much flatter response and give the truest sound of all the headphones in this review. If you upgrade the cable on the HD25 from the standaed steel to a copper one you get even more accuracy ad detail.
@thpeed You would help me alot if you answer my question. Should I take the Croossfade LP's or the Pioneer HDJ-500 ? I'm not a Dj so I wouldn't use them for djing but I need them for my freetime & and sometimes for producing
I like the crossfade LP for every day use because they are super comfortable they are quite bass heavy though so may not be great for production - The HDJ-500 would probably give a truer sound but If you are not bothered about the look I would give some Sennheiser HD280 or HD25sp a go as well. Best thing to do is find a DJ Shop locally and have a go on them to compare if you can.
Thats interesting... i actually found the TMA-1 to lack a bit on the highs rather than the lows. There are plenty of lows here and the midrange is quite detailed as you have stated. Also the sound is not fatiguing and but they can be because the can reach very high volume levels if you are not very careful at all. I can actually use them for mini speakers on the go, yes they can get that loud! Very nice balance for a dj headphone and are very high fidelity too if you want them for non-DJ use!
You are probably right.... I only used them for one night and in my experience headphones normally need a few days "run in" before they sound their best. The HD25 sound a bit flat out of the box but after a week or so they sound great. I probably did not give them a long enough test.
Maybe you used the foam pads because the leather really do give the bass an extra kick. "Run in" is unlikely , from my experience they did improve but not by much although i did notice it.
the foam pads really make them the brightest headphone i have ever heard, even brighter than Grados. The brightness really makes them fatiguing but once i exchange the pads the sound became very manageable and from my experience was very non-fatiguing after long periods of listening.
@thpeed Hey, best review I've seen on here, one of the few that actually talks about the Real world practical pros n cons of the headphones!
I was looking at getting HD25 variant, mainly for longevity, quality and being able to fix/replace parts myself. But at 140, its a bit to rich for me. Ive heard the HD25s and love the soundquality; I prefer the flat response. How different are the HDJ500s to the HD25s. Also are the HDJ500 Dismantle(able). If so any chance of a vid showing??
@Mrlotslucky Yep I like the HDJ-500s, They sound really nice and feel quite solid. They also have a better hinge system to should not crack and fall apart like the HDJ-1000. Or if you like the HD25 you could look at the HD25sp which are a similar price to the HDJ-500. They probably sound a bit better and are lighter but the cable has a tendency to get twisted as the earcups can spin 360. As for dismantling.... Still working on that at the moment - they are tricky
@thpeed I will be using them for DJ-ing so wasn't so keen on the 25SP, mainly because the cable goes to both earcups, and you've confirmed they tangle up. If the 500s are solid this makes it less of an issue with taking appart anyway :-) .. I'm pretty handy with a solder iron so always prefer diy fix. But if they never break.. even better.
I'll keep an eye out for a tear down vid of the 500's some time :-)
Yeh. The tma-1 are nice headphones. The sound quality is very good. The mids are quite far forward so if you are mixing vocal house and things it makes it easier to mix in key and they have good noise cancellation. If you are in the UK and want a cheap pair ..... If you email me through the customcans.co.uk website - We get normally do quite a good price
mmmmm Tricky.- They are all v-good and all of them are good to mix with. I would see if you can have a listen to them all before you chose. The Pioneers have the most bass but shill have loads of detail so if you mix on the bassline than they are great the HD25 have a pretty flat responce and the TMA-1 are the brightest but lacking some of the bass extension of the HDJ-2000.
Nice set up, i wanna see your rig!!!

It will depend on the colour but normally £180 - £200 for a single colour including the headphones
