  • That's not a magpie.

  • I think that this is a more interesting result than if all of the magpies recognized themselves. Do you have a theory as to why some birds recognize their reflections and some do not? Are the self-recognizing birds older, or do they have more experience with reflective surfaces? Or, are some birds just smarter than others? It is very interesting.

  • @endthedisease have you seen the other videos of this very cage where, when tested other magpies recognize the image as themselves?

  • @stiimuli yes, it just proves that some magpies are smarter than others. In some mammals non of the group will recognize themselves. In other species some will and in others species all or the majority of test subjects will, proving that there is no such thing as mental equality in a species.

    I thought you were asserting that animals (or at least magpies) cannot be self aware.
