this clip is a weak style of slapping and yes its just that easy. Now the the clip when he is slapping in Mark King Slap Solo, is a complete differant matter all together. ;D
He slap the upper notes and drums the lowers. You must drum in the fret to make it sound properly. Also, he mostly hammers with his left hand ( fingertapping)
Couldnt explain better cause my english is not good enough ^^
Don't let your thumb rest on the string. there are many ways to slap. You can bounce your thumb off the string or you can thumb through the string. too hard to explain on a text. Victor Wooten has some good instructionals on slap.
you gotta get your thumb off the string quick so that the string gets the vibration from the slap. I practice on my knee where ever i am, slap and get off slap and get off eventually it becomes a natural flow to bounce right off what ever you hit.
well he has his thumb pointing up and hits the string really quick and uses the rebound to pull away. Flea does the same thing with his thumb facing down. But if you want to know how to slap the correct normal way, watch Victor Wooten
Once you grap it - it's pretty easy. When your thumb hits let's say the "E" top string, it is for a fraction of a second. Otherwise it will be just a thud. Best to leave the string open and prectice this in varying degrees. You'll know straight away when you've got it mate!
ive been playing bass a long time and i cant do that..that snap...makes me wonder if its a metalic band on his thumb..whatever, he does it i cant seem to and he is great!
He used just some ducktape around his thumb. nice trick is to use a thin piece of rubber between the tape...gives a better bounce/attack and makes the notes sound a bit brighter.
Te quiero Mark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Status is ok , the MK II is better, neither is a Alembic Series II. The Ultimate, in my opinion . Mark has had is almost as long as his JD,s.

It's just that the Status bass is so responsive, the tape is just for keeping the thumb in tact. And it also became a little image thing a'course ;)
