This brings back some great memories. I found the Crescent City Stompers in the early 60s when they played weekly at the Civic Hall. Bill Lowden worked as an electrician with my dad, Bill Martin, at the South Western Gas board Basin Works in Exeter. I still have an old photograph of him and his fellow electricians. Is any of the Stompers music still available anywhere?

Great band.Surely as good as Barber.Mike Meyer was still playing in the Exeter area with John Shillito in the 80s and 90s, till he sadly went deaf.

My father, Ted Extence, played Drums with John Portley's band in the early fifties, it must've been the CCS... I have some pictures of him practising in St George's Hall in his chef's outfit (He owned a restaurant in Princesshay). I really must tell him to look at these postings, although this is obviously after his time. John Portley went on to become my godfather!

Hi, Im Geoff the missing drummer,good to see you have taken to a 'real' instrument after all these years, and joined the club Jazzbobill. From deep in my memory here are some 'jazzers' who were involved in the late50's and early 60's.CCStompers-Tbs John Portley,Ron Millford,Bernie Newlands, Clar/sax Tony Sayers,Ron Ginger, Acker Bilk, Drms Maurice Price, Gordan Clark. I still play drums in a different 'Genrie' to the Stompers ie alarge concert band

Sorry it's me again. I must apologise to Mike Mayer - Clarinet, for stating that he had recently passed away. Glad to hear that you are still alive and well Mike and still playing that good old New Orleans jazz.I was sorry to hear that it was indeed our mutual friend Mike Ayear - Trumpet who had died.

I would just like to add that the pictures only show a few of the guys on this track, however, all of the musicians shown, helped put the Stompers on the scene in the 50's.

Roger Hall on banjo is now living in the States.Geoff Cole,as I mentioned, moved on to greater things to join Ken Colyer's band. He was with them for 10 years. Our fine bass and clarinet players,Ray Newton and Mike Mayer,recently passed away.Never did know what happened to Geoff Sleeman - fabulous drummer.If you see this Geoff, please contact me.
