'Fishing tip'----- When fishing from surf, allways have your spool full of line and not half of it like is shown here. Just like you said....you never know what's gonna bite. A 100+ pds tarpoon would empty that spool in a minute, no matter if it is 100 pds braided line, the moment you close your drag it will etheir open the hook or tear it from the fish mouth (not to mention bad knots)
I live far inland and don't get to fish for really big fish ever, but have had some pretty big northern pike peel a lot of line off my reel. Your reel seems to be very underspooled. Wouldn't this effect your casting distance and if you hooked into something very large wouldn't you be worried about running out of line? I know you know what you are doing as i have seen many of your videos but am just ignorant and curious, so no offence intended, just wondering.
When you are casting bait 50+yds on the beach, there is a fairly large chance of having your line "chomped" or having a "bite-off". Many times the sharks see the line and purposely bite it. Bluefish, mackerel, and other toothy-fish may swim into your line and cut you off. So sometimes you lose 5ft or 20yds. I used to always refill the spool, but then got tired of it. Sometimes this can happen 7 times a day. I now wait until I need to put 50yds on.
@BlacktipH Haha, i knew my logic was sound, but there probably had to be a reason. I would love to live near the ocean and surf fish. Keep up the great videos!
Another great video. I caught a 40" sharpnose shark a few days ago using a leader I made after watching your leader video.(7ft 1/16 cable and a #9 circle hook) Also pulled in a 3 foot shovel head shark on 20lb,a tiny hook, and a dead shrimp. I still really want to see a video of you showing how to hook all types of bait.

This is a bait rod, I am not fishing for tarpon with it. Also, in this video, the rig is out 50+yds, so of course the spool will not look full.
