  • I also am a descendent of Stephen Hopkins. My mother's father, Charles A. Hopkins, was the first full-time police chief of union, nj. Stephen Hopkins' grandson, also Stephen, signed the Declaration of Independence for Rhode Island

  • Stephen Hopkins is my 15th Great Grandfather... And, since I'm related to him, and A LOT of other people are... That means we're related to a Christ ton of people.

  • Lots more to see about Plimoth and Native New England at ANCIENTLIGHTS dot o r g

  • Did they mention if John Howland was Quaker or not(Plimoth wasn't, they were calvinist), but for some reason a lot of Howlands I've known from SE Mass were either quaker or had quaker ancestry?

  • I went there on a field trip in the 80's. John Howland is an ancestor of mine, too.

  • Before sailing on the Mayflower, Stephen Hopkins had been shipwrecked on Bermuda, lived as a castaway, led a rebellion, talked his way out of a death sentence, helped rescue the starving Jamestown survivors, and got himself imortalized by Shakespeare in The Tempes. Knowing the dangers firsthand, he still chose to bring his wife and children to the new world. In Plimoth, he housed Squanto, annother amazing voyager. What an interesting, daring person!

  • Yep, the more I hear of Stephen Hopkins's story, the more fascinated I become. Have you read "Here Shall I Die Ashore" by Caleb Johnson?

  • i went there on a field trip in 96......one of chaperones ended up getting into a confrontation with one of the "native americans"....Our group was asked to leave the plantation....i hope to go back one day

  • I wish I had colonial ancestors in Massachusetts.

  • i went there yesterday!

  • john howland is my grand father from back then!

  • i used 2 work at plimoth plantation. its crazy how they pay so much attention 2 details. everything is exactly wut it would be in the 1600s

  • Hello cousin! I am also a descendent of John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley. It was great to be at Plimoth. The women characters there speak very highly of Elizabeth, although I didn't see her. They said that she, as a girl, helped nurse the ill ones and that her housewifery was excellent.

  • Thanks for watching my slide show. And I will correct my mistake. Thanks for you comment.
