  • 27:01 I'M DONE!!!!!!!!

  • Green Temple? Is it made out of mud, reed or hemp? Poor amongst us and you show a TRULY GREEN rice farmer? Come out, come out.

  • It's one thing to teach it ,another to live it, and those who do or did live it, are FORCED to get "CIVILIZED". Time to get detoxed.

  • Thanks for having this major documentary on current environmental threats posted and sharing tips on how Jewish Teachings can be applied in responding to these threats. Informative and comprehensive.

  • I am now 100% vegatarian! thankyou so much for this inspiring and revealing film, I will be telling others all my friends and family to watch it.

  • At a time when the world is heading rapidly toward an unprecedented climate catastrophe and facing many other environmental threats, when there is an epidemic of diseases that are resulting in major expenditures and causing major budget deficits, when over a billion of the world's people are chronically hunger, when there are droughts in many areas of the world, and many more problems related to animal-based diets, this documentary is very important. Please let others know about it. Thanks.

  • As associate producer of this documentary, I would like to urge everyone to help spread the word about it. For more information on the issues, please see my over 140 articles and 25 podcasts at the web site of Jewish Vegetarians of North America.. Thanks.

  • subilo traducido LEO :(

  • Great video, very informative and meaningful. Now I know global warming is for real.

  • Humans are Starving, Trees are Being Murdered, our Mother is being Raped and Pillaged, all to feed Animals - who are - as a result - tortured and murdered, all to feed masses of people who CAN afford flesh food, and the Millions of humans who are starving, are STILL starving.....How is ANY of this considered Moral ?

  • Yes, when Chernobyl melted down, that radiation went around the globe. So, it is very important we face ourselves, our choosing sides, our willingness to not check, to be vehicles of spreading, war promoting fear propaganda, or just joining in the hate-mongering ourselves. I think the most important thing we can do for the planet right now is look at the fear between Israel and the Arabs, and Iran, and peacefully try to promote reconciliation. Bombing Iran will spread around the planet, too.

  • Its all there in the Torah but have we become ''blinded by our faith?''

  • i am not Jewish but loved this documentary! Have been eating a plant-based diet for 38 years and an environmentalist longer but still learned a lot, and my respect of Judaism grew. ♥ Nan

  • @SEElovEverywhere Going Vegan is one of the best things you can do for the environment.

  • @flute4hire could not agree more, that is why my husband is playing this documentary on our local access TV station.

  • A BIG thank you for this video. I learned through it more about Torah and spirituality-heritage of Jewish Nation or People.

We need to keep in mind we are one nation sharing the same heritage from God or Great Spirit whenever from what nation we are members.

Cedric - from Breizh (Brittany) an old Celtic Country

  • We All Need to take this all more seriously, respecting all for future generations to come, our children and so on. IF we keep ignoring, procrastinating like all doing in Economy Finances, etc....Well, not wanna live in this world in future generations to come, not of God ;o

  • Meshugim!

IGNORE the HATERS Mishpa'...this is an amazing film for anyone worth living...SALAAM SHALOM PEACE!!!

    oh,to all the Haters...Speak to the Hamza...THIS YID ain't lis'nen,G-D Bless Your Wretched Souls,B"H

  • It is mind-blowing to me how a film about a group of Jews working for PEACE, nonviolence, and vegetarianism is attracting neo-Nazi conspiracy theorists who come here to post hate snd ridiculous stereotypes. What do you guys do? Search the word "Jewish" and then randomly post canned spam???

  • Holy shit how did you upload an hour-long video? (Btw yeah I didn't even pretend to watch this. I'm not sure what it's about, but I love my meat and I eat what I hunt, if that has anything to do with it. And I'm not even clear what "kosher" is, assuming that comes up somewhere in this video about Jewish values. But yeah I respect your video and beliefs and whatnot, so please don't flood me with a torrent of damning replies about sin and hellfire; I'm not trying to insult anyone here. Later)

  • CoollrThnU, Uploading an hour long video is easy with a fast i-net connection :) As for content, Jews do not believe in hellfire. RE: hunting, if you treat the animals you hunt with respect, then that is one thing. But this movie is about, among other things, modern factory farms -- which are about as far from nature and hunting as you can get. I think you as an outdoorsman would find it disgusting to see the way the animals are treated by the meat industry. View the film and see.

  • People, this video is about ecology, animal welfare, vegetarianism, and HEALING the earth through cooperation among all peoples. Those of you who are posting bizarre crap about Jewish stereotypes, conspiracy theories and such drivel are only showing your own ignorance -- and your laziness, since it is clear you did not even bother to VIEW THE FILM FIRST!

  • Yes, You are right, Al ALSO shows that what is happeinng now is MANY, MANY TIMES faster and more intense than ANY previous ice age or warm spell that occurred naturally. He was COMPARING the present global wareming to natural events, NOT claiming that ice ages are manmade. But, it is also true that this current global warming is 90% a solar cycle and 10% human caused. Al made this film because Illuminati are pushing for a carbon tax. Do You really believe that some tax will solve the problem!

  • horustase74, even if only 10% of climate change is human-caused (and I do not claim that), it could be enough to push us over the edge -- the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. 10% of anything is a significant number.

  • Look, dear Friend, whatever we do about the climate change will have absolutely no impact. The current "Climate change" is a solar cycle which repeats itself every 12 960 years, when our solar system passes from the dark half-side of our galaxy to the bright side, and vice versa. Then, always, every 12 960 years, Ice age is preceded by "Global warming", which is caused, and caused only by increased sun's activity. Illuminati know that but are not telling us to be able to impose carbon tax.

  • Beancube: What, if anything, does this comment have to do with the film? Did you actually view it, or simply come here to spout canned anti-Jewsih propaganda?

  • kago, When was the last time you heard of an Israeli suicide bomber? If Palestinians would stop blowing up Jews and calling for the total destruction of Israel, the war would stop. But since Hamas has officially delclared war on Israel, you can't blame the Israelis for fighting back.

  • Aside from the fact that you seem to be confusing Stalin (NOT Jewish!!!) with Trotsky (whom Stalin OUSTED), you obviously have not viewed this film, but have merely come here to post ridiculous tripe. Pardon me, but your illiteracy is showing....

  • My IQ is 145 -- what's yours? I challenge you to actually WATCH this film and comment ON THE FILM, oir stop posting crap.

  • Thirdpositionist, you are obviously considering Jews to be a biological race. Not so. Whether or not one is Jewish is GENEALOGICAL, not racial. The children of a convert -- are bonafide Jews as much as people born into the community. Converting to Judaism is not just "religion," it is more like being adopted into a tribe. "Race" has nothing to do with it.

  • A person can convert to any religion, third. The important thing is to follow the religion of your choice to become a better person.

  • @bellesansbete There's no such thing as "a good person." What is good and moral for some people, can be highly destructive for others. Therefore, since nobody seems willing to remain in their own homelands... all we have is "Might is Right" as our guiding principle.

  • About ten years ago, it was 136.

  • IntellectualConcepts, the word "chosen" has never meant "better than" to Jews, it has meant "having responsibiity." There is nothing in this film that suggests anything about Jewish "superiority." In fact, I do not recall the phrase "chosen people" even occurring in the film. Did you actually VIEW it first????

  • The inspirational ancient religious messages in A Sacred Duty transcend the doctrines of all religious and spiritual beliefs. The following quotation by - Albert Einstein - is a toast to this magnificent masterpiece Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances of survival for life on earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet.

  • What "secret code"? There was no reference to any auch thing in this film. Makes me wnder if you actually VIEWED it or if you just came here to bash Jews.

  • Donald4yah, your posts are so totally unconnected to anything in this film that I wonder if you actually viewed it or simply came here to bash Jews and spout sterotypical antisemitic rhetoric. There is no mention of a "secret code" anywhere in the film -- the quotes are from the OLD TESTAMENT which is hardly secret!

  • We, means we. It means, "by the people, for the people and of the people".

I guarantee you this, this man, has an evil motive, which aims to direct you towards his lust, whichever that be..

There is a man, who sat the record straight, because He set the record Himself..

He is the Torah, and yet He is more, than that.

You see, the rest of the story, is what everyone everywhere have always hid, because of two evil motives. T

he pride of life, and the lust of the flesh.

  • I Met Richard Schwatrtz at the Animal Rights 2008 Conference and viewed this video there- it is stunning, and unforgettable -- thank you Dr. Schwartz and your colleagues for helping to open more eyes to these world-wide crises.

  • Al Gore was given the Noble Prize for his documentary film *An Inconvenient Truth*

*A Sacred Duty* is a much more important and

urgently needed film and without question is a vastly superior, more powerful, informative, and meaningful presentation. *A Sacred Duty* proves that a *different kind* of monumental and urgently needed change needs to take place throughout the world if there will be any chance of stopping global warming.

Real awareness can change the world.

  • Al Gore was given the Nobel Prize for a bunch of lies. Global warming in not only a man made phenomenon but is manly consequence of the great solar cycle. In his movie he presented that previous ice ages happened in the cycle of about every 13 000 years. Who's fault were they? Is it believable that people caused them all? Nonsense! Global warming, pole shift and ice age happen always when solar system passes from dark to the bright side of the galaxy. Ozone holes are not sealed neither!

  • horustase74, you completely missed the point of Al Gore's film. Yes, he shows ice ages on the graphs -- but he ALSO shows that what is happeinng now is MANY, MANY TIMES faster and more intense than ANY previous ice age or warm spell that occurred naturally. He was COMPARING the present global wareming to natural events, NOT claiming that ice ages are manmade.

  • It would be a shame if some didn't take this important and well produced film seriously because of it's religious content.

May I suggest releasing a second "lighter" (and shorter) version for general consumption.

  • elliote, there are plenty of secularized films about the environment (Al Gore got a Nobel Prize for his), and PETA has done some on animal abuses such a "Meet your Meat." What makes this film unique is precisely the religious POV and ESPECIALLY the Jewish focus because cit is RARE to see a Jewish POV on anything in the mainstream media. Remove that and you have just another secular documentary.

  • I didn't say "remove the religious content" only to release an edited lighter version that can hold the attention of those that are not as cerebral or religious (a great deal of the population). To be clear, a lighter version would contain much of the original message but in synopses.

  • Elliotemail, the film was originally produced for use in SYNAGOGUES and JEWISH SCHOOLS which are religious institutions, not "most of the population." Jews, by and large, are intellectual "cerebral" well-educated people who don't put much stock in mere soundbites. We expect some depth.

  • In the last year I have dramaticaly reduced the amount of dairy and meat my family eats, but recently I have been so disgusted with the news about animal cruelty and degradation of our planet that I have definately removed animal products from our consumption habits. I just hope people wake up for the message in this video and many others on youtube/net. Its past the time to re-write our history in this planets. And for the fools out there, this has nothing to do with religion.

  • I agree.

  • this is vomitous!

that is why I am a vegan...

    so cruel!

    unspeakable horror-

they have killed people in death camps-never forget.

    sincerely,

    louise

  • This is the most important urgently needed one hour documentary film ever produced for the benefit of all humans, all animals, the earth, and the earth's atmosphere, and you can view it for free. Al Gore won the Noble Prize for An Inconvenient Truth. He forgot to include the number one cause of global warming, and the number one solution. Find out the real truth. Take one hour out of your life to view this incredible film

  • I'm not Jewish. But I know a good documentary when I see one.

This documentary film is just so well made. Very tasteful. And the logic and reasoning is so clear.

    Beautifully done.

  • you are a moron...nobody is promoting religion....these are facts......judaism never promot4es itself!!!!! duh!!!!

  • go back to school buddy, you have no clue of what you are doing in life.

  • nosferatruvampir, lose the attitude. This film was not produced "under the guise of concern" or to "promote religion." It was originally commissioned and produced by SINCERELY CONCERNED members of Jewish Vegetarians of North America to educate people within their own Jewish community. Jews do not have missionaries, we do not seek to convert people to Judaism. But, since the film is of interest to others besides Jews, the org made it available FOR FREE to everyone here.

  • How does Judaism approach animal overpopulation? Such as kangaroo hunts in Australia or rat infestations in Asia?

  • This is linked to my blog & my ME page on eBay, and some pages on Wikipedia. How come those links don't show up here?

  • This is certainly a must watch video for everyone. The end makes me sad to be a human. To see the tear fall from the cows eyes. Do the people who mistreat and torture these poor animals feel they have no feelings? It saddens me that money means more than life or integrity. Anyone seen abusing any life, should be punished and it must be known it will not be tolerated. Thanks to fishmarc for sharing this video with me.

  • This video restored my faith in the teachings of the Jewish religion. I am not Jewish but, I was aware that mankind had missenterpreted so much of the Old Testament. To have the Jewish community educate all of us on what God really intended for humanity, the planet and it's animals gives me some measure of hope. Thank you for the great video.

  • Fish, I too am not Jewish. Yet I find that there is much inspiration and historical information within the Old Testament. Of course, Christians believe that Jesus was the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophesies. One of my favorite passages from the Bible is from Joshua: "AS for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." God is God - there is no other.

  • "Christian Concern For All God's Creatures" can also be seen online. It's based on God's Creatures Ministry's 2006 conference.

  • Fish, cruelty to animals has always been forbidden in Judaism. Jews never went in for hunting, bullfights, gladiator shows, etc. like the Europeans. As Roberta K. said in the film, for thousands of years, kosher slaughter was also humane. The actual moment of slaughter is still humane, even PETA acknowledges that. But since most of us no longer raise our own animals and the factory farm methods are so cruel, in this day & age it is now more humane (and kosher) for Jews to be vegetarian.

  • Wake up!! The time has come to begin the process of shutting down meat packing plants, and all animal factory farms and slaughterhouses. Humans will have to grin and bare it when farmed animals are no longer tortured and murdered. Humans will have to grin and bare it when they live longer and healthier lives. Humans will have to grin and bare it when they can no longer fill the stomachs of their children with the decaying dead flesh from the bodies of tortured and murdered animals.

  • erikaarthur67 - that was a brilliant comment... this world truly needs to "wake up" and it better be soon.... i believe we don't have too many more years or at least not as we know it.

The unfortunate part is that you and I will suffer right along with all those that chose this lifestyle - these bloodthirsty meat eaters that torture the very creatures this Earth depends on for survival.

  • this made me cry , thank god im a vegan or i couldnt live with myself, paul

  • Anyone wants to help a bit for free, messgae me.

  • Praise Hashem! This video is excellent and true! I believe

Today's, Torah observant Hebrews, Jew or converted, should become aware, and make the change for Hashem today! It is our obligation. A light unto the nations! And showing Hashem we care and love him heart, mind and strength! Faith is not only believing, but also being a living example. Respect life, your neighbor, and God almighty! God bless us all for the cause of all-good we can do now! Thank you! Support this video Catherine Manna

  • A beautiful and moving argument for doing what all of God's children know is right, good stewardship of the planet, mercy to the animals here and love toward our fellow man. I am so grateful for the gift of this video.

  • This very special, first of its kind, documentary film premiered in Israel last November and is now being promoted throughout the world. The powerful and persuasive ancient religious messages delivered so eloquently are so meaningful and convincing that they transcend the religious doctrines of every religion and spiritual faith in the world. A Sacred Duty is a spectacular and heart wrenching film that is appropriate for all people mature enough to appreciate the ancient words of wisdom.

  • This film is remarkable and brings an immediate awareness to the crisis our planet faces. The message of, "A SACRED DUTY" contains many lessons, the most significant of which includes how to live in peace with our fellow beings and, through that, make a significant impact on the future of our planet. There is an urgent need for a global shift to plant-based eating and agriculture...This film does an excellent job describing why this shift needs to take place and how to go about doing so.

  • To those who inflict pain and suffering to any one of gods creatures, I now condemn them to eternal misery.

    Chapter 1 verse 1

  • The last 31 minutes were great. You should delete those minutes(29) and just present the last 31. Or put the powerful 31 minutes first and put the lackluster 29 last. I believe many people don't get to the 31 because of the 29.

Thank you; and thank myself for hanging in for those 29 so I could get to the 31.

  • I'm sorry you found the intro Jewish stuff boring, but please keep in mind that this film was produced primarily for Jewish congregations and it premiered in Israel, where it got EXCELLENT reviews. The second half would have been useless in Jewish education setting without setting the stage first. Most Jews are not vegetarians. By firmly grounding this in Jewish teachings before presentring the overtly veggie POV, it was MUCH MORE effective.

  • Rooster If I remember the first half of the film, what turned me off was the lack of Torah Judaism in the presentation. There is so much in the Torah that could have been presented and instead they presented it as if they were appealing to New Age secular Jews and non-Jews who are alienated from the Torah. This may be the majority of Jews today but it left me with a hollow feeling. I suppose this arose because of the level I would have liked it to be presented(Torah saturated)andthereality...

  • I guess you refer to the lack of more Orthodox in the video. How many Jews who follow a glatt kosher diet are sincerely interested in how their mazon is produced? Much of the Orthodoxy regards meat as an essential part of the diet which can't be historically and traditionally separated from its observance.

  • Actually, chanteur73, there were at least 4 Orthodox speakers in the film: The Hasidic guy in the beginning, professor Richard Schwartz (author of Judaism and Vegetarianism), the former Chief Rabbi of Ireland (Rosen?) and the chief rabbi of Haifa. All of them are vegetarians. There are probably more orthodox vegetarians than we realize.

  • Everyone should see this very powerful documentary, regardless of their religion (or lack, thereof).

This masterpiece is applicable to every human on the planet.

Kudos to Lionel Friedberg and Richard Schwartz for this incredible film.

  • WOW! It is great to see a religious documentary that actually has a profound message and a necessary one for humanity. There is so much more in the Torah I wish they would've mentioned, but still an extremely inspiring film. Everyone who considers themselves religious or spiritual should watch it!

  • Cause & Effect all through time in the Sequenctial Order of Things/Events from Beginning to End. Possibly the human race should have lived like us Indians of North America?

  • I was very impressed with the message of this documentary, and it was clearly produced with a lot of thought and effort. However, it loses much credibility because of inaccurate translations of many Torah texts and misquotes of Torah verses. It needs help in that area before I'd be comfortable forwarding it to others...

  • Exactly WHAT inaccurate translations are you referring to? What misquotes? The only possibility for objection that I found was "care for" instead of "rule," "subdue," or "have dominion over" but even that is not so bad, because a good ruler cares for his kingdom, he does not abuse or exploit it. "Care for the earth" implies stewardship instead of dictatorship. Some of the speakers did paraphrase quotes, but that is normal in interviews.

  • Well, since I'm in the movie (as are some of my free-run geese and chickens), I am of course biased -- but everyone involved did a really good job on this project, which was a couple years in the making and took many, many person-hours to do. I just want to note here that Lionel Friedberg, the director-producer, DONATED his time and expertise to do this film. And thank you also to Jewish Vegetarians of North America (JVNA) for making it available to anyone to view here free of charge.

  • PLEASE EVERYBODY of all faiths or non faith ... WATCH this ...THINK, FEEL, CARE and CHANGE.

  • I will post a link to this video everywhere I can, and I personally ask everyone to spread the word, and post a link to this video in blogs, forums, myspace comments, websites, and by email.

The facts and statistics presented in this video have been available in books for years! Now that we finally have a visual understanding to attach to numbers and statistics, I encourage everyone to take a long overdue step in spreading awareness and change.

  • A profound & unsettling call to action that we ignore at our own peril. Thank you.

  • Shalom,

Blessed are the generations (both plant and animal) that shall inherit our earth.

This thoughtful, well-constructed film reminds us of our moral obligation to ensure that that blessing will be equivalent to--or greater--than what we ourselves received.

Thank you for this contemplative opportunity.

    Ruth Poulin

  • Everyone should watch this. I'm not Jewish and I found it to be incredibly moving. Please go vegan, and help save the earth. Eating animals and animal products is wrecking the environment. I've been vegan for 6 years, my cats have been vegan for 5 years (check out vegecat and evolution), we're all healthy and we aren't hurting other creatures and are living much more lightly on the planet. We need to save OUR earth, before it's too late.

  • Survivors of the Holocaust must understand and have empathy for animals. After all they were treated the same as farm animals. This is wonderful, and I hope all religious groups watch this. WWJD? Jesus would want every single, living being to be treated with kindness and humanity. If a human can exist without causing pain to another being, why wouldn't they want to choose that?

  • God's laws teach us that God cares for all of His creatures. Christians in their quest to follow Jesus, should be following His ways, and NOT the world's ways. Sadly Christians lack the fruit of the Spirit. Do we value more the sins of gluttony and greed? My prayer is that Christian leaders will have the courage to teach the truth about God's ways. How we treat animals reflects and affects our relationship with God.

  • This extremely important video should be watched by EVERYONE.

  • A Sacred Duty is the most brilliant, intelligent, thought provoking, and heart wrenching documentary film ever produced for the benefit of humans, farm animals, the earth, and the earths atmosphere. In only "one hour" because of the quality, the content, and the magnificent presentation, the film "A Sacred Duty" will reach out and grasp you in your heart and soul. This video should be viewed by every man, woman, and mature child in the world. Bravo!!!
