For pickup's, they were putting stack's on gas pickup's long before they were putting them on diesel pickup's and actually long before they were put on rig's. This actually dates back to the 1930's when farmer's did this to keep the exhaust pipe's under the truck from setting the field's on fire. During the 1950's& 60's hot-rodder's were

It had dual 4inch stack's. Now today it is "super cool" to have a diesel and to have stack's due to the bandwagon diesel kid's who have mommy and daddy buy there truck for them. Stack's are nothing new on pickup's and one's who run there mouth's are the one's who know nothing other than it's cool to be diesel.

@Craziguitarman321 I would say keep the cat's& ditch the muffler. It will play havoc with the 02 sensor& if you have emissions testing it will not pass. I ditched the muffler& kept my cat's. I lost a tiny bit of low wned tqo, but gained on top end HP. I did make the loss of torque back with a cold air intake& new plug's, wires& a bully dog tuner.

@travisdear i would def. recommend gettin headers...the sound differance is close to unbelievable, much deeper. ive go the 318 in me 97 dak. very underrated motor, especially when you put a little money into it. (intake, exhaust, headers, 180 thermo, and the hypertech tuner dealio) made the damn thing SO loud, and also noticeably faster, especially the top end pull. And, it was all under 1500 installed. Sick truck too, the stacks are fuckin sweet

@dodgeram360. Actually I drilled a 5 inch hole on the bed for the 5inch up pipe to come through. It was primer'd around the hole, and re-painted.. Under the hole it was sealed with rubberized undercoating. I also keep the new pipes painted black, especially the flex pipe to keep it from rusting out. So, yes. I am really smart about preventing rust and other body damage from forming.

Not me. I don't half ass anything on my truck's. I am not afraid to work my truck hard. I think the hardest I worked it was when I had to assist my friends powerstroke up a hill with a 5th wheel trailer on it with heavy logs. His tranny was shot, and he couldn't make the grade. I was prob doing 80% of the pulling. I do take care of it, and when I do work on it, I make sure it is done to best of my abilities, and no half assing it. The better you take care of it, the longer it will last.

Pickups are made to be used and worked, but unfort I see alot of trucks that are in horrid condition, and owner's curseing them, calling them pieces of shit, when in fact it isn't the truck's fault. Owner's fault for not takeing care of them. Saw some guy with a silverado, ran his truck for 150,000 miles hard, and did no axle fluid change's, and blew both the front& rear out, and couldn't understand why the truck broke. Depends on the Diameter of the stack. My exhaust is basically cut off at the muffler. It still runs through the resonator and cat. My stacks are 4" diam. It also depends on if you get a curved stack or straight. Curved will send the exhaust noise straight out, but a mitre cut will send the noise straight into the air
