  • when love comes so strong, there is no right or wrong. your love is your life. ...hands, bow, seal it with a kiss.

  • "Just wait, Maria!" Oooh, a sign for the future!!

They're both so talented ... brill.

  • WOW!!!! The icredible womans

    I LOVE JULIE ANDREWS!!!!!!!!!!

  • its on itunes!!!!!

  • A BOY LIKE THAT! lol

  • It's a shame that Carol Burnett never developed her voice. There are moments in almost each of her vocal performances that reveal hints of a tremendous singing talent.

  • @ryan33bttm She's continued to sing over the years, but she said in an interview once that she was never meant to have "that voice".

  • does anyone know which year this aired?

  • So hilarious :D Brilliant!

  • this is just amazing...makes me tear

  • 5.41 = PRICELESS

  • that goes down as one of the great performances of the 20th century.

  • Jesus. I've watched this video four times today. Get a grip!!!

    BUT IT"S SO AMAZING!!

  • i need a list of all these song and where they are from please

  • @LizAndyMovieWatcher from 6:11 on, it's west side story.

but it's not so hard to find. just google the words they're singing.

  • @wattever333 the hallelujah comes from:

Sing Hallelujah And you'll shoo the blues away

    When Cares pursue ya, Hallelujah!

Gets you through the darkest day.

Satan lies a-waitin' And creatin' skies of gray

sung by Kay Armen (who died early october age 95).

here she is... youtube ... v=YeJDdGQc7PI

  • @wattever333 sung by Kay Armen in Hit The Deck 1955.

  • i love them so much!!!!!!

  • "All I want is a room somewhere..."

    "OOHHHH...."

    <3 JA

  • I just love there friendship they have together they're both fabulous my favorites singers!! I am so proud to be 17 and listening to such beautiful artist and not listening to the horrible music of today.

  • @MissVintageRocker There's some good music out there today -- you just have to look a little harder for it. Check out Jeff Blumenkrantz or Scott Alan if you haven't already. They are both extraordinarily talented young composers, and work with great singers.

  • I turned 65 today. I had to watch this again. I was 15 when this was on. It's such an amazing show. I bought the LP as soon as it came out and played it (and especially this and "Big D") a lot during college. I memorized the whole thing. I wanted to be Julie, but I did a better Carol. While the rest of the medley is fun, I always get chills with "I have a love..." The switch from playing it for laughs from Carol to Julie's conviction should be seen (and understood) by any acting hopeful.

  • It's amazing to hear Carol Burnett in her vocal happy point. She sounded pretty good until the 90s, but this was her real 'prime'. As for Julie, if she hadn't had that poor choice in doctors, I have no doubt that she would still be singing her high B-flats 'till the cows come home, but she sounds so FRESH here, it's just stunning.

  • Julie A and Carol B are so funny. Like the end w/ "My Fair Lady" & "West Side Story"

  • BRILLIANT!! they should just put this on TV every day!!!

yes my english is't verry good becouse i'm from Holland so...

  • @mirrie133 Your English is perfect. And I agree, the world would be a better place with a daily dose of (especially) Carol. Julie is awesome but Carol was FUNNY FUNNY FUNNY!

  • I'm in tears at the fun and the beauty of this wonderful clip. Julie's voice is at its absolute prime, able to do virtually anything. And it is wonderful to hear Burnett's voice when she used a wonderful head voice. Her voice remained wonderful, but she had to belt so much on her show. People forget what a great musician one must be to blend with Andrews, Merman, et al.! Anyway, this is sheer heaven, and the the final duet is heartbreaking.

  • These two women are magical together :)

  • HILARIOUS and lovely at the same time :)

  • what year was this?

  • I almost pooped myself when Julie Andrews broke into Oklahoma!

  • It is the height of irony that it is Carol Burnett who can still sing at this point in time. Alas, a golden voice (Julie) was silenced due to a bad choice of doctors.

  • This was one of the best TV specials of all time. I have a DVD of it, but I don't know if it is still available.

  • If it's supposed to be about musical COMEDY, why they sing West Side Story? I loved it, of course.

  • I think they would've been the BEST roxie hart and velma kelly!!!!!! OH MY GOD!!! that would be the best!!!

  • Is there a dvd or tape available to purchase of this? I have searched everywhere!!!

  • Julie & Carol ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • I really love this. I'm a big fan of Julie and Carol.

Does anyone know what's the title of the first song that they sang?? I think I've heard that playing in my grandparent's house when they were still alive.

  • This is hilarious, i'm definitely a Julie and Carol fan!! Love them both a lot! :]

  • what year was this?

  • @sofroniaful Believe it or not, it was videotaped in 1962. If they ever remaster that original tape to DVD it would look live to us.

  • @mca1218 I wish they would remaster it.

  • Now this IS entertainment!

    Go Andrews and Burnett! :]

  • julie is my singing hero, carol is my comic hero :)

  • "Alright, I'll tell you what.. "

    "what ?"

lmaooo :D that was funny as hell.

"....as they were handed down through the ages and into history"

"...okay !" <- i love how she said it [:

  • I just saw a few clips that featured the comeback concert of Julie Andrews. I was glad to see her great peroformances. But I felt sad to admit that her upper register

was quite low. So I came back to this clip that helps me enjoy seeing and hearing

Julie at the zenith of her career. I think she had a more distinctive British accent in the 50s and 60s as Carol teased her with the remark on "What" with an exaggerated British accent.

  • I love Carol's voice but in the first song Julie is over powering her, it is probably meant to be that way but still, it shows how stronger Julie's voice is to Carols.

  • Their like the female versions of martin and lewis when their together

  • How are they so cute??? = D

  • god bless youtube..thanks for postx

  • what song did julie sang from 7:40? THAT.WAS.BEAUTIFUL! melts my heart!

  • @imgoodtnx I think it is called 'a boy like that' it is from westside story I believe. However the song already starts around 6.12. It is indeed wonderful, I love Julie and Carol preforming together.

  • @JanzanSwomps thanks! =)

  • love judy garland but these two are great as well

  • "Youuuu should know BET-TAH!!"

The ultimate treat would be if this is ever remastered from its 2-inch videotape original to DVD. The ladies not only can SANG, they are lovely to boot, and surprisingly comic in the "A Boy Like That / I Have a Love" medley (the finale at that time!!), with them literally playing the roles. I miss the days of live television variety specials like these.

  • omg love this video! <3

  • Carol Burnett = Comedy genius

Julie Andrews = very funny and stunningly beautiful (her face and her voice)

  • I LOVE JULIE'S VOICE SO MUCH!!! Simply Stunning <3

  • This is maybe absurt to ask but...

Can you add the titles of the songs they sing in this medley ??

  • @Iranaa :)

  • The dresses Julie and Carol wear in this clip look beautiful. They make a great combination. Thanks for posting this clip.

  • Oh my goodness, Julie Andrews sang an Audrey Hepburn song (S'wonderful, S'marvelous). My life is complete. :D

  • Wish Carol Burnett had done more legit singing and less belting. She actually has quite a lovely classical head voice when she uses it.

  • Thank you for sharing! Beautiful!

  • They move from humor and fun throughout to pathos and poignancy in the West Side Story songs then back again. Its perfection in timing harmonizing and voice.

  • 5:40 Julie's reaction to Carol singing "Loverly" is hilarious!

  • Julie's voice was absolutely flawless. I love the note at 3:49.

  • Alright...I tell you what-

    -What?

I love them. So, so much.

  • Absolute angels on Earth, these two ♥

  • I can't count how many times I've watched this. It's so brilliant. They are so perfect together. I'd rather watch this than watch 99% of what is on TV today.

  • @NadiaBKat167 i fully agree

  • "Not if were careful" Lol

  • Fantastic!

  • Thank you so much for posting!!!!! :-0))))

  • LOVE their West Side Story rendition!! 7.30 is a gem ofcourse. Thank you so very much for uploading. Thanks to Julie i've discovered Carol Burnett (who(m?) I'd only seen before in Annie) and it's a pleasure!

  • I just experienced a piece of heaven. What an incredible duet. Carol is an excellent comedian, and Julie? Well, all I can say is that she has the voice of an angel.

  • pure talent!

    we'll never have this anymore. : (

  • @musicloveBH It make me so sad the the music industry has turned into what it has. No one sings any more, they are just synthesized.

  • Amazing. Just amazing. I keep coming back to this video...the music, the singers, the personalities...simply wonderful.

  • This was the golden age of TV, when there was real family TV, I remember watching this and falling in love with Carol and Julie!!! We will nevrer see this kind of wonderful entertainment again.

  • I am amazed to see so many comments left for this clip. But no wonder. They really lure us into the world of great musicals. I would not be interested in the musicals had I not known about Julie Andrews. Not only is she one of those symbolizing musicals but she has immortalized her fame as a musical actress. And Carol Burnett plays an important role to get Julie's charm out of her.

    Thanks for uploading this clip.

  • the year is1962

  • 1962

  • What an extraordinary duo...

I always apreciated Julie Andrews as a vocalist. But at this point, I can no longer say I dislike musical theatre because of the force unveiled in this performance. Seriously. What a power combo.

  • what year is this?

  • PAHA! Carol's face when she sings the low "kind" :)

  • PAHA! Carol's face when she says the low "kind" :)

  • I would have died to be able to see this!

  • I remember this when it was new! Wow. I think Mike Nichols was the director.

  • Epic.

  • got an idea how hard it is to do ten solid minutes of this, and make it look so easy and relaxed. Moving from bawdy humor to pathos and stay true to the musicality. We all know how pristine Andrews 'voice is, but Carol does not get due credit for hers. Sublime.

  • "I can't say cain't" Hahahahaha. I sincerely LOVE this soooooo much.

  • i've been a fan of this AUDIO for decades ... so wonderful to SEE it!

  • BAHAHA! Oh my gosh I bursted out in laughter at 6:16, thats great!

  • I love how these two are friends! They are just amazing together, they need to make a duet album or something

  • 5:20 to 6:50 is priceless.

  • Great. I love these women. 7:22: standing ovation for Julie. What a wonderful voice!

  • Carol's lovely and Julie is about the best singer living, and what diction (I've figured out how she does it, so write me if you want to know my thoughts on this prickly subject). Boy, do they sound wonderful together--just like they feel, i guess.

  • @mckavitt please explain the diction?!?! Absolutely LOVE Julie.....voice of an Angel :D

  • They"re both soyoung and so damned thin!! Such Perfect Stars!

  • No words....i love both. Something like this is not done anymore.

  • I love how Julie messes up the lyric at the beginning and bumps Carol on the shoulder, hah.

  • My Queens... Where's Judy?????

  • me too silvershields. . . i love julie andrews. . but does she look cross eyed in this video or is it just me?

  • @VAMPIR3CHiCK it may be her wandering eye (she had it when she was younger ;))

  • @Fratelliyo Did you read that book too?

I am so grossed out by the stuff they did to her for a simple wandering eye!

  • @VAMPIR3CHiCK How can you even tell her eyes look black.

  • @EnchantedSilence it kind of does look like it though

  • i have never seen this! thanks so much i love julie andrews so much and Im starting to ador Ms Burnett!

  • @streeply it's called "Every Little Movement" I don't know who it is by though.

  • @streepily it's called "Every Little Movement" I don't know who it is by though.

  • Great role reversal in Yank and Brit roles.

  • "Ok I tell you what." "What?" Hahaha that is so funny!

  • WOW!!!! they are good. i especially LOVE julie andrews solo at the end,ah! she sings so good!!!

  • What is the name of the first song they sing ?

  • at 1:21 julie andrews messes up and goes to say posture. who cares tho because i love them!!!

  • I love them both and I LOVE Bernstein!!!

  • Thank you for posted it ! " I tell you what - WhAt ? " xD Love this passage <3

  • i just love thier dresses...so classy.

  • does anyone know what year this is?

  • @Ceci14 I'm pretty sure it was 1962. C:

  • Excellent vid!!!thanks!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • that's cause she's singing a song from west side story. the main character is named maria.

  • I knew that; "West Side Story" is my 2nd favorite movie musical, but I still thought it was a weird coincidence.

  • @dsneybuf oh but that song they were singing by that time is from the West Side Story whose lead character's name is Maria... :D

  • @dsneybuf ummm . . . the song is from West Side Story . . . of course she calls Andrews Maria . . . that is the role she is playing in the song

  • Two BEAUTIFUL and AMAZINGLY TALENTED women.. I am so glad I had the privelage to see Carol live and enjoy both of them through television and film.

  • Just glorious chemistry and voice here . Harmony, humor and even a touch of pathos toward the end.

  • okay now who knows the song julie sings where it goes

"I love him, we're one, there's nothing to be done. Not a thing i can do but hold him, hold him forvever..."

  • "A boy like that/I have a love" from West Side Story.

  • What year did this air, please?

  • 1961 or 1962

  • Does anybody know the songs they are singing at....

    3:14

    1:15

    2:22

    5:22

    ???

  • @gillie12345

    jepp,

    1:15 every little movement

2:22 look for the silver lining

3:14 s'wonderful (julie) lucky day (carol)

    5:22 i cain't say no

  • Thanx much!! :)

  • I love Julie's reaction when Carol starts singing "Wouldn't it Be Loverly"! :D

  • @1TheSocraticMethod1 Now after going on Google, i know now why she does that Palmface expression Lol :)

  • @blondewitfries if you don't mind...why does she?

  • @ayama06 I had to read this comment like five times to actually get what you meant Lol :):) She does it because Carol is singing one of Julie's songs. Julie Andrews sang "Wouldn't it be Loverly" In My Fair Lady and because Carol is singing it with a weird cockney accent, she facepalms Lol. Now you know why, it makes it that much funnier :):) I hope i explained it okay Lol :)

  • @blondewitfries lol sorry about not explaining...thank you, you did help :) btw i like your youtube name

  • I'm on a Carol/Julie high at the moment and I'm really in love with the softness and royally fanciful voice that Julie uses; likewise, with Carol brass, yet poignant voice I can't help but to smile when she uses that instrument with her comedy.

  • @kylejerel ...im on a julie and carol high too...he he he. AND I LOVE IT!!!!!!

  • What a treat to see these two masters together! The takeaway is not to compare yourself to others - imagine if Julie had refused to perform with this queen of comedy because she didn't want to be shown up, or imagine if Carol had refused to sing with of the greatest singers of the century for fear of looking bad!

  • @bretp99 haha i didnt even know that was a mistake until you pointed it out. i thought she meant to do that but now that i look at it again, she did start smiling right afterward. miss mary poppins "practically perfect in every way" flawed!!!! omgsh i NEVER thought i would see the day that JULIE ANDREWS messed up at something! gotta love her.

  • super))))

  • 5:41!!!

  • Julie got mixed up with the lyrics :D

    It is:

"Every little movement has a meaning all its own, every thought and feeling by some posture can be shown".

She already sings "posture" when the lyrics say "feeling". Look at it again, Carol sings "feeling", Julie sings "posture", that's why Julie is grinning right after that line :D funny^^

  • ...you know, singing songs representative ________ if you will...;

What does Julie say where I left the gap? I can't understand acoustically...please help :)?

  • "of epoch and era"

  • I thought it would be a good idea if we did a history of the musical comedies in the United States, you know, singing songs representative of the various epochs or eras, if you will, as they were handed down through the ages and into history.

  • aah...thanks :)

  • @Schrotter0512 of the various epochs or eras

  • Oh! I love Julie Andrews.

Well I love this two ladies together. What an amazing couple!

  • God is this great!! Wow.

This show again really shows their singing skills. I have hardly ever heard Julie sing as dramatic as in this part from West Side Story here, it really caught my breath! :-)

They both are SO amazing, it's indescribable!

  • sensational

  • sigh... These two ladies have captured my heart. Makes me happy to see them performing together :)

  • I've been in love with Julie since the Sound of Music - and Carol - that Variety Show was a classic - still miss it.

  • Carol from 1:28- specifically, when she sings "revealing"....God, thats gorgeous. That was really vogue to sing with one of those little guttural trills in the 50s/early 60s, and HOW I WISH I KNEW HOW.

    She did it sooo well.

  • And here.. :)

    - I've Got You Under My Skin - from Born to Dance

    - Begin the Beguine - from Jubilee

    - I Cain't Say No - from Oklahoma!

    - Wouldn't It Be Loverly? - from My Fair Lady

    - A Boy Like That - from West Side Story

  • And it continues here...

    - Funny Face - from Funny Face

    - 'S Wonderful - from Funny Face

    - Lucky Day - by Judy Garland

    - Why Was I Born ? - from Sweet Adeline

    - Don't Ever Leave Me - from Sweet Adeline

    - Dancing In The Dark - from The Band Wagon

    - I Get a Kick Out of You - from Anything Goes

    - Get Out of Town - from Leave It to Me!

    - Glad to Be Unhappy - from On Your Toes

  • @TheLilyAndAudrey If I'm not wrong, Carol segues into a portion of the song Night and Day about a two lines after she started singing Dancing In The Dark. I think Julie sang a line of another song at the end of I Get A Kick Out of You but I'm not sure of both the line and from which song it came from as Carol was overpowering her in that part.

  • I think the one who made the list forgot a couple of songs. I made the list for all the medleys they did together, and if it's any use for someone ! Here it is :

    - Every Little Movement (Has a Meaning All Its Own) - from Madame Sherry

    - Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life - from Naughty Marietta

    - Tramp, Tramp, Tramp Along The Highway - from Naughty Marietta

    - Look For The Silver Lining - from Till The Clouds Roll By

    - Limehouse Blues - from A to Z

    - Fidgety Feet - from.. ?

  • ohh Carol! What a voice! Why have I only JUTS discovered that you are my absolute favorite Performer of all time!

Its like I've been searching for her of all time and only just realised it!

  • I love Julie AND Carol

  • Here is the order of the songs sung: (Part 1) 1:08 - 1:54 : "Every Little Movement (Has a Meaning All Its Own)" 1:40 - 1:54 : "Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life" 1:54 - 2:20 : Tramp, Tramp, Tramp (Along the Highway)" 2:20 - 2:41 : "Look for the Silver Lining" 2:41 - 3:03 : "Limehouse Blues" 3:03 - 3:13 : "Fidgety Feet" and "Funny Face" 3:13 - 3:33 : "S'Wonderful" and "Lucky Day" 3:33 - 3:49 : New York? 3:49 - 4:33 : "Why Was I Born" 4:00 - 4:33 : "Don't Ever Leave Me"
  • Comment removed

  • you forgot Yesterdays....

  • still, it's pretty awesome that they took the time to make that list for us. thanks so much, ags072889!!! You're the best!

  • o well!
