Honestly I have long since given up checking on whether its released. It's beyond the joke. God knows how many times they have had to rewrite the code just to keep up with current operating systems and hardware. I think THAT is the point though. They are having big problems and are waiting for technology to catch up to their product so they can get it actually working the way its supposed to. So expect another 5 years of waiting by which time it will be obsolete as a game.

Well, there are a few of things you gotta consider:
1. Original Sturmovik didn't have that many planes either - only 31 flyable, it was the expansions and 1946 that really brought the total up (to an incredible 256 flyable.)
2. Elaborating on what ScandicFisher said, this game is focused on the Battle of Britain exclusively - Sturmovik, by the end, included the Eastern, Western, AND Pacific fronts... no wonder the plane count got so high.
3. Game is still in early stages... info is uncertain.
@ottotr doh... how long did you think it took for il2 sturmovik to have the bunch of planes it has today? You cant expect them to model 500 planes. The sim is the priority. Get the basis right and we will come to expect expansions thereafter. Have you looked on the cover of il2 1946 how many expansions that sim consists off?
This game should have a LITTLE BIT higher system requirements than IL2 1946. Graphics here doesn't seem to look bether than in DCS: Black Shark or Lock On FC.
crysis is difficult to run cuz of all the post processing filters and 3d objects your computer has to load constantly, fsx is the hardest flight sim to run but it demands more cpu power rather than gpu power cuz of the high veiw distances and high res textures for the aircraft and land, it doesnt matter what type of game you play whether it be a fps or a sim its jsut the amount of graphical quality that hassels your computer, anyone who knows computing hardware and how it works will agree.
FSX runs slow cos Mircrosoft didn't optimized that. Oleg 1-2 years ago said that SOW is better looking and faster running than MS FSX. But there isn't lot of info about progress in SOW development, I hope it wont be so PC demanding as FSX.
No these are not images from PF or IL-2, anyone who has played either one can tell that. (Look at the water and ground textures. ) And the release date will be in this schedule Jun 1, 2009. Of course the traditional maddox delay could be possible, but doesn't that only give the studios more time to make another "holy grale" of combat aviation simulations?

There were no four-engined bombers in the Battle of Britain. The German bombers were all twin-engined and the first British heavy four-engined bombers didn't come into service until 1941.
We will probably have to wait for the expansion packs...
The developers could also introduce the game with realistic flight training in a Harvard (T6) as flown by UK/Allied pilots as the time. With assessments made of your performance by a an AI flight instructor, I know this is sounding a bit like another well known sim.
Looking good, I wonder if they'll also simulate the wing flutter in a Spit just prior to a stall or am I getting too carried away. It'll be interesting to see the number of types of BOB aircraft you'll be able to fly, and if the game will be open to homemade mod expansions.
Only Alpha version is currently present, the one in the video is pre-Alpha. If you want to know more just type "Oleg Maddox" (he's the main man behind all this) in google and the first result is his forum with Q's and A's. The game looks REALLY promissing. If you have the fastest PC's on the market currently, you will only be able to play SoW on medium graphics configurations :)) so don't upgrade your PC yet.

thats understandable, the graphics posted so far are incredible, and we know the performance will be great as well. SoW should bring back combat flight sim enthusiasts as it has been wanning over the last few years. online community is getting smaller.
This vid looks a lot like a video on the DVD that comes with IL-2 1946. Daresay, this looks near exactly like the vid for IL-2 1946. Were it not for the cliffs in the backgrounds (IL-2's engine doesn't like cliffs) I'd say it WAS the vid for 1946...

Battle of Britain, in terms of fighters, was mainly fought between Me109 on German side and Hurricane/Spit on Brit side. Me109 models were E-models. Those didn't have a nose cannon, but two cannons in each wing in addition to the two MG on the engine hood. Anyway. I stand by the word that this video doesn't show something about the Me109 as one of the major participants in the BoB, but tells us about some Su26 plane instead which to me seems completely unrelated to the BoB topic.
Megamushroom07 - Your wrong. The 109 was just as good as the Spitfire - kill ratio actually slightly better. Each had their advantages over the other. The Spitfire overtook the 109 from 109G (1942) model. The 109G10 109K later in the war were not for a notice pilot. A good pilot it could still hold its own. The Me 109F 1941/1942 cancelled out the Spitfire V model - both equal.
The ME-109 suffered from poor manoeuvrability, it's tailplane often severed while diving, many pilots were killed on takeoff, and it also had very violent and unpredictable turns. If it were better, I ask you, how did Britain win it's battle with so few?
Anyway, The E certainly was that bad, but the later G and F models were obviously better. Still no match for a Mark 9 Spit though.
MegaYAWN! Not so - manoeurability wasn't as bad as poms make out. Diving Zooming was superior to the Spitfire MK1. The Spit cut out Diving, Certainately poor pilots had trouble with the 109 but read your history books - you find the 109 just as good as the Spit. Britain won the battle of Britain due to a number of things - if the 109 had the range of say the Zero fighter command would have been in a bad state. As for Spitfire MK9 I said the 109 F was equal to the Spitfire MKV. Sick of this!
True, you were required to roll upside down in order to dive, but that was fixed on later models. At least you didn't lose the tail when doing it.
Ah, low range! Another poor issue. However, RAF Fighter Command only had 500 aircraft at the time; How did we win? What 'other' reasons? The Hurricane and older aicraft would have easily been outmatched by the ME-109.

Mega - the Tempest was one the best of Britains fighters. The Typhoon was design as a fighter but excelled in Ground attack. The Spitfire was a good fighter but surpassed by the P51. The 109 had fallen behind 1943 G6 onwards although a experience good pilot in 109K could fight later fighters - problem is alot of Luftwaffe pilots coming out were green an the 109 was difficult to fly. What I say the 109E/F was the Spitfire MK1 toV equal!

I'm a little disappointed too! But the aircraft below are the only aircraft to have been confirmed. It's rumoured that the following will be flyable:
-Fieseler Storch
-Boulton Defiants
-Me Bf-110
-MS 406
It won't have as many aircraft as IL-2, and only has one map. Thankfully, though, the map is massive and contains all of S.England and N. France.
It has also been said that you will be able to download aircraft onto it mush like FSX.

This vid looks a lot like a video on the DVD that comes with IL-2 1946. Daresay, this looks near exactly like the vid for IL-2 1946. Were it not for the cliffs in the backgrounds (IL-2's engine doesn't like cliffs) I'd say it WAS the vid for 1946...

Battle of Britain, in terms of fighters, was mainly fought between Me109 on German side and Hurricane/Spit on Brit side. Me109 models were E-models. Those didn't have a nose cannon, but two cannons in each wing in addition to the two MG on the engine hood. Anyway. I stand by the word that this video doesn't show something about the Me109 as one of the major participants in the BoB, but tells us about some Su26 plane instead which to me seems completely unrelated to the BoB topic.

Megamushroom07 - Your wrong. The 109 was just as good as the Spitfire - kill ratio actually slightly better. Each had their advantages over the other. The Spitfire overtook the 109 from 109G (1942) model. The 109G10 109K later in the war were not for a notice pilot. A good pilot it could still hold its own. The Me 109F 1941/1942 cancelled out the Spitfire V model - both equal.

The ME-109 suffered from poor manoeuvrability, it's tailplane often severed while diving, many pilots were killed on takeoff, and it also had very violent and unpredictable turns. If it were better, I ask you, how did Britain win it's battle with so few?
Anyway, The E certainly was that bad, but the later G and F models were obviously better. Still no match for a Mark 9 Spit though.

MegaYAWN! Not so - manoeurability wasn't as bad as poms make out. Diving Zooming was superior to the Spitfire MK1. The Spit cut out Diving, Certainately poor pilots had trouble with the 109 but read your history books - you find the 109 just as good as the Spit. Britain won the battle of Britain due to a number of things - if the 109 had the range of say the Zero fighter command would have been in a bad state. As for Spitfire MK9 I said the 109 F was equal to the Spitfire MKV. Sick of this!

True, you were required to roll upside down in order to dive, but that was fixed on later models. At least you didn't lose the tail when doing it.
Ah, low range! Another poor issue. However, RAF Fighter Command only had 500 aircraft at the time; How did we win? What 'other' reasons? The Hurricane and older aicraft would have easily been outmatched by the ME-109.
Oh, and I am not gaining sources from child's textbooks, nor some flight simulator...

I am only stating what I know from adaquate sources, for example, German fighter veterans. If the 109 was so great, there would be no requirement for the FW-190.
I am only comparing later models of the Spitfire and ME-109 merely incidentally; I do believe that you were the first to bring later variants into the debate.
By 'we', I mean Great Britain, the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.

The Tempest was a more of a ground support aircraft, designed to attack ground units rather than fighters.

And GB won because Hitler ordered bombing be diverted to London, giving the RAF a chance to regroup and strike back. Combine that with the overwhelming zeal of someone fighting to defend their home, longer combat time due to near nonexistent ingress times, Radar eliminating the need for constant standing patrols, and the forgiving nature of the spit on new pilots, and you have a substantial advantage.

Mega - the Tempest was one the best of Britains fighters. The Typhoon was design as a fighter but excelled in Ground attack. The Spitfire was a good fighter but surpassed by the P51. The 109 had fallen behind 1943 G6 onwards although a experience good pilot in 109K could fight later fighters - problem is alot of Luftwaffe pilots coming out were green an the 109 was difficult to fly. What I say the 109E/F was the Spitfire MK1 toV equal!
