Ahhh, timing - my worst enemy! I can't hear any mistakes but then I have no music education - ear has always been my only teacher. I sometimes regret that I refused to go to muslc school when I was younger but at least today I don't criticise people for playing one or two notes wrong.
Switched to the 3rd person? I'm not going to "get lost" and your minimal effort certainly does not motivate me to post something better. If you are going to perform in public, you have to make the effort to faithfully learn & recite a piece or you need to have compositional talent of your own (not just the blues scale). You are apparently banking on the latter. Don't half ass somebody else's work, make it your own, then act like its fair to equivocate the two in your title, free of criticism.
@purecanesugar420 Knowing that I recorded this like 3 years ago I had to make sure before I say anything and watched the video again. The only mistake I did, was when I played 3 notes one octave higher than it's originaly written if you cna call that a mistake. The timing is correct. Double checked that. If you know musical theory you can check the sheet notes of the song. They're uploaded somewhere. I know it's not perfect but I can't find such horrible mistakes to loose temper...
@Sunchild333 So you are saying there was only one mistake? Listening half way through right now I counted 9 bars with errors. Doesn't matter if you are using the notation, because if you are, you read it incorrectly, or the person that wrote it down wasn't listening carefully to the song.
@Sunchild333 Oh, never mind, I see you said you DIDN'T use the sheet music and that I could go look it up. You might consider doing that, but I really don't need to.
@purecanesugar420 Yeah well neither do I. I learn music by ear because it's my way of geting to know music more. Like I said, there might be mistakes because it was never ment to be 100% perfect. And that's the way I like it, because I'm not copying anyone, I'm doing things the way I like to do. You can either respect that, or don't visit my channel at all. And what you call 'mistakes' are just the notes that I prefered to use and are not WRONG just because they're not THE SAME.But tnx anyway =)
@Sunchild333 LOL, first you say that you only made one mistake, where you were playing the right notes in the wrong octave. Upon hearing that there were, in fact, greater than 9 major melodic or rhythmic changes to the song, you play the artistic license card. It's either your own uninteresting artistic interpretation, or you failed. I'm still playing the you fail card. You can either respect that, or stop posting half-assed covers on the internet.
@purecanesugar420 Well this conversation is pretty much stupid because you obviously think you have him by the balls just because you are completely sure how the song goes. I realized what you ment by mistakes and I never saw those different notes as mistakes. Just get lost please if you don't like it...because obviously other GG fans think different than you. And come back when you have any videos on your own.
Great stuff!! I grew up with GG and luv' em still. Fantastic to see you using your skills to tackle something of substance. Looking forward to hearing you take your music on to the next level.
don't give up hope for doing progressive music. If you are really good at it and perserving, you can still get a following and fan base someday. Because the music industry is dead, that doesn't mean you should feel discouraged. Be optimistic always! You have talent, keep going, and work as hard as you would if there was a music industry.
Yieh!!!!!!!!! I with you! When this was released I was learning bass and would play this 'run' over and over. Round and round, rising and falling, it could go on forever and never loose it's deep emotional impact
Hey man... AWESOME job... great video and guitar playing... Gentle Giant is the greatest band who ever existed in my opinion... I'm am guitarist as well... from Brazil... check out our demo music video... congratulations... STRONG LIKE A BOMB
Dude, you're awesome. That's just crazy. Can you play Playing The Game from Power and the Glory? You should make a video of that. I've always wanted to know how to play that song.
Thank you! I can play around 15 of their songs but the problem is my camera...The videos come out in a bad quality. I need to borrow a better camera and I'll record some more stuff and maybe even Playing the Game. We'll see.
Heard this one live yesterday here in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was truly amazing to see them live, and their performance was as stunning as back in the 70's. Liked your version here as well - keep it up!
YES!! This is my definitive favourite GG song. I was searching for so long for a live version of this but came upon this video. Fantastic!! Great rendition!! Anyone who attempts to play GG material is to be praised with the utmost respect. Thank you so much.
Thank YOU! Three friends hit me the first time I heard it. I listened to this song about 100 times in one day. I first had to learn how to play this on drums to get the pattern in my head. It was a great challenge and I'm always up to learning any GG song.
There's more to come soon and I hope you'll be satisfied!
Dude - you totally rock. In case you didn't know, Gary Green, Kerry Minnear & Malcolm Mortimore have formed a new badn called Three Friends, re-creating the best music of ther Giant, including many never-performed-live songs. Their is a VERY active mailing list of GG fans called On-Reflection, and you'd be most welcome there -go to Dan Barrett's GG page to find out more; Gary, Kerry, Malcolm and Pugwash [John Weathers] all post there pretty regularly.
It shouldn't be surprising for you to know, that I already am a member the OR-list. I've been a subscriber for a year and a half now. Funny that we haven't talked there yet. I know about Three Friends but don't want to think about it much, knowing I won't get the chance to see them live. Meet you in Scotland 2010 perhaps?
I'm impressed...not just that you know how to play this but that you know of this to begin with. You are way out of your timeline. You must have dug out some of your parent's albums. Either way, great job!
Actually my parents don't understand this music. Neither does anyone else I know in person. I like living a life full of challenges and digging into the unknown =)
Thank you! I've always liked that real quality music if you know what I mean. From what I had known, I always liked the most complex and genius stuff. So now Gentle Giant and King Crimson are my favorite. I wonder if my passion for knowing more complex and talented music has found it's limit?
Anyway...I just hope an influence from guys like them can help me on my musical path.
Yeah it wasn't till 2 months ago that I found sheet music for this song. 95% of it is correct. The only mistake I had made is where I should have gone an octave lower with 2 notes. And maybe just a few mistakes because I get nervous when recording =)
I may record the drums some day though...That's even harder!
Yes, very nice! GG is my favorite band, for about 35 years, and I have many favorites in their catalog, but this one I never tire of and could listen to for hours. Now you have to figure out Mr. Class & Quality!
Glad you like it! I'm just thinking about recording Mr.Class & Quality on bass...but I just noticed someone else already did it, so there's no need to show you how it's done...that one is correct.
I might record Prologue very soon...I'm currently occupied in Sweden, on a GG meeting =)
Thank you! But I've already learned it...All I need now is a good camera and I can record some lessons for GG/KC songs as well. The songs coming up are: Prologue, Funny ways, Pantagruel..., Wreck(intro), Giant.
Considering King Crimson: Starless, Moonchild, Larks' pt.2 for now.
Probably not all will be uploaded but some of it for sure.
I'm trying to learn this, and looking at as many covers as possible, with variations in creativity, helps me out. Thanks for posting.
