i always form an alliance with the pope, always... so when someone attack me they get excommunicated... so my enemy will be attacked by other catholic factions as the target for crusade...

You are fools if you trust anyone in THIS game. My very first targets always are "brothers", "friends" and "allies" who have my backside so to speak even if I had to tell the pope to go f--k himself in the process. France once betrayed me even if their princess was married with my king. I always plot against my neighbors even by spreading plague if my army is stretched too thin. Being an overtly aggressive, machiavellian, backstabbing scumbag is the key to success in this game.

@Cybernaut76 The AIs programmed to attack you if you share two or more provinces with them; don't make alliances with your neighbours. Wait till they move in some other direction and first attack their cities and cripple their economy. Keep a second army in standby and the moment they lay siege to you, charge into their other city. Works best with Milan, denmark, Spain etc.

You're idea is perfect. But take care not to piss off the Pope too much. Use him well and you can act all godly and free.

@redtihor1 Thank you for giving me new ideas. I am still not very experienced with this game. Though my relation with Pope is already low, I will try to take some cities from France as they seem weak now. I dont feel very right about any other strategy than aggressive because I chose the long campaign but I will try your advice. Thank you.

@xhoni123456 I havent noticed any financial crisis yet. All my money always goes on new building projects and on recruiting new agents and soldiers anyway. Both queues are always more or less full with me in most cities (though I am aggressive, I also understand development is important even if it was costly). Thanks for the warning of possible financial crisis. I am not yet very experienced with this game.

i trust no one so i went moors and beat Saladin to a pulp before making peace when they were broken before quickly burning though Spain and France, England by far was the hardest faction to fight on that campaign

i continued the advance taking Italy and the Alps before hitting a Russian roadblock then i got bored

Milan in this game, is very bad.. They're like an Ephialtes.. When I raise areas of today's Germany - they drove a knife in my back, destroying the army and killing the king - even though I had an alliance with them. Today I have nowhere to go, it's no longer milan. Milan - have only the city Innsbruck.

I was never betrayed by the milanese because I never allied with them, but in my first campaign as the English I was allied to Portugal and they betrayed me (and I'm portuguese!). Then, in my campaign as Portugal, I never made allies and kicked ass the same way I did before!

Hehe the medieval II AI doesnt realy care about being under artillary fire.

Shows realy badly in field battles too, defending AI just sits somewhere while you kill it with arty, eventualy you run out of ammo, charge them and then they run away.

There was a glitch (I hope) once, when I was being besieged by the Milanese. It was my 300 against their 500. I was winning, with ONE unit of spearmen left, against ONE Unit of cavalry. Skip past, two minutes (thats how long it took these two units to brawl), I have 15 spearmen left, against ONE FUCKING CAVALRY SOLDIER WHO then, KILLED ALL OF MY GODDAMN MEN! Needless to say, I lost all of my men, and the Cpu had one standing.

A lot of people say that when defending a city, you need to have a fall back point where some of your men are stationed. However, I prefer to actually take my armies out and CONQUER shit, so I don't usually have enough men to do that. So I'm telling you guys, bottle neck them at the gates with spearmen in front and on the flanks (hits their morale). Make sure to hammer their general with your archers so that when he runs into your spearmen, he'll get slaughtered and the army will turn tail.

i had a stresful time on my asian campign

i had 3 full armys o fenglish swords men

and knights

i had to retreat all of them when i was being chased by the mongols

so i had to quickly make an army on peastent bowwman to hold them off in jerulelem

i finally got all my armyt's to the boats and reatreated back to my italina fortress in milan. but as for my bowman army

they felt the full force of the mongolians and lost jeruslelem

I once played as Hungary and captured Venice from Milan with intent to sell it back to the Venetians, but then the bastards counter attacked with a shit load of Geonise crossbowmen. In the end I won, but we had a good half an hour of pushing the line in this one street before it was over. That street was so full of bodies when they retreated lol

those epic moments only total war series offer....i remember a day me stressed up and fighting over and over the holy roman empire, until my army got outnumbered after battling like 3 consecutive battles vs huge armies, then they surrounded me in the mountains and i was so angry that left the battle there and went to eat, when I went back my crosbowmen won the battle standing in the top of the mountains and I only saw the entire army routing, I was like.. OMFG

I have Rome TW and I was being seiged, the cpu had like 500 more guys than me and when they were about to breach the walls they just stopped moving altogether,and the wall towers killed their army. Pretty sad I think :P

They tend to leave Genoa and Milan empty in the early stages of the game (and if your lucky). Just blitz the shiz out of them then and save yourself alot of trouble later on.

@zeitsick If you played HRE, then yes, they historically hate you a lot. Still, at some period in Medieval 2, every nations who share the border with you will attack you (except your allies "may be" and your protectorate "definitely" )

I Lose All my central Land in 2 Turns My Armies to the West are Being Constantly Attacked and My Army east is Struggling to Regain Ground. It Was just so F'in Frustrating to Rage....Which i Did after my weakest allied Attack and Help Defeat my Strongest Force then i just Quited....

Attack everyone; hell with the Pope. After Milan is consolidated; prepare a navy and sail off butchering the Moors and the little islands. Distract the Venetians and invade Ragusa and Iraklion. They won't be able to keep up. Milan gets a lot of good militia at cheap rates. And don't lose sieges. If you lose Milan or Genoa even once, it's over.

First of all, you need a really well influenced diplomat, then you must conquer all of their cities until they only have 1 left, then they should accept, i've done it before with that tactic.
